Having a forward who can successfully take on defenders time and again is a priceless asset.

Maybe it was just CAR who were poor anyway.

It wasn't annoying and unnecessary. Osimhen was offside . He can't pass the ball to him. His dribbling were top notched. A new Okocha is here.
How they couldn't see the 9 was offside is amusing. He did gift the ball to the 9 moments before that and the 9 blasted over.

Hello TheLoneCitizen, any chance you collated the number of takeons completed by Ejuke. I reckon it would be in the twenties.

Ejuke should be given the 10 Jersey.

Fun fact : If Isoko are hybrid of Urhobo and Igbo it may explain why the people were not comfortable under the Urhobo shadow grin

You are very correct in your calculated guess. Get a language map of Delta state and you'll see clearly that Isoko is sandwiched between Igbo and Urhobo communities. It appears that Isoko language though heavily tilted towards Urhobo contains more of Igbo words and a good number of them easily understand Igbo. Even the Isokos know that some of their communities were founded by Igbos. Sadly, some of them will ignorantly today replace the word Igbo with Aboh just like that lady has been doing. They think it makes any difference. You can see how she's already claiming that Igbo speaking communities(Ndoni) in an Igbo dominant area are Isokos. Isn't it funny?
Calling them Aboh or stylishly insinuating they may be Isoko communities na just play nọ worry grin

Isoko being a hybrid ethnicity of Igbo and Urhobo is a real (but funny) possibility grin

There is nothing to be confused about. This is common with "Igbo" tribes at the border... Similar dynamics happen in Arochukwu... they even have some Ibibio villages, some are billingual in Igbo and Ibibio.

By the way, "Ada Irri" is 101% an Igbo word....or can you tell the meaning or etymology of the word in Isoko?
One day on one Ndokwa page a user uploaded the local government map of Ndokwa East and the neighbouring Isoko local governments. I noticed most of the captured Isoko towns had Igbo sounding names. I didn't talk sha before they will say Igbo too dey claim grin

I asked her to clarify and she said Isoko people were not the original people. She said the original people were the Aboh people. She said her mom is Aboh and her dad is Isoko, and that village is her mom’s village. That is where the dad met the mom. In that clan in Delta state they speak both Aboh and Isoko, and the 3 remaining clans in Rivers state speak mainly Aboh. Hope this clarifies issues. She said her mom’s mum is Isoko and her mom’s dad is Aboh. My dad is from Ada Irri, Isoko South LGA. My goodness this is too confusing for me. She kind of hinted that Isoko and Aboh people have really mixed over the years, so most of them have Aboh and Isoko blood.
Bolded: I won't call it mixing cheesy

I think Isoko is actually a hybrid tribe descended from Urhobo and Igbo. But it's a wild but calculated guess don't be offended. grin

The Ada Irri sef is most likely Igbo descended. It is not confusing for me.

From my view they are all Igbo communities originally. The movement of Isoko people into the area may have brought about some confusion as to identity of each family.

A honest exhaustive trace backwards should reveal who is descended from the original Igbo inhabitants and who is descended from the Isoko long time immigrants. However a simple conclusion is that Obiaka and the rest communities across the river in Rivers state are all Igbo people, mumsy included.

Proving Ada Irri is Igbo or otherwise will take more investigation from me. Though on first glance it's obviously Igbo . Perhaps your dad can explain further.

I always tell anybody who cares to listen that Hausa and Yoruba people are the same! I have looked at them and seen their close similarities in behaviour and thinking. They are the same! After staying in the North and I came to the West and heard Lafia in Yoruba greeting I just knew the two people are the same thing from that moment onwards. Kperoogi here proves me right.

Adiai obiaka
If I ask you what Obiaka means in Isoko now you will feel offended. If I ask you to write down your language here you will write something liking to Igbo. Okay, no problem though, be Isoko.

If the rest of the communities fall under Rivers state it is likely they are all Ndoni people, on both sides of the river.

my wife is an ogbaru woman. Her people call us from hinterland 'ndi igbo'. I wonder why.
I think it may be a carryover from precolonial era where Igbo communities were strongly autonomous. Hence, the name ndị Igbo would be used to refer to other communities outside one's own.

Check this scenario. A mysterious stranger, perhaps having the appearance of a great dibịa, is coming into the community and he is stopped at the boundary. From interrogation he is obviously a fellow Igbo but a stranger nonetheless. While reporting about the stranger's arrival to the King or elders, the guards would invariably say, "ọ nwe ofu onye Igbo bịara.....". Listening to them one may be confused to think, "are the people not also Igbo?" . You get?

If that's the case your mumsy is as Igbo as they come.

Yes. Many words and expressions are being dropped to fit into pan Igboism. It irks purists like OdenigboAroli who gets angry that in Idemili we are now seeing children bearing names like "Chizaram" instead of "Chizalum", "Chinaemerem" instead of "Chinaemelum" etc.
He forgot that down south in Imo and Abia people are now giving their children names like Ifeanyi, Ifeoma, Ifenyinwa, instead of Iheanyi, Iheoma and Ihenyinwa. cool
Interesting mix going on. The Igbo race is, can I say "merging", or maybe "coalescing".

"Uhu", "Ufu" is still very much alive in some places in Abia state, I believe.

In Old Bende, (Bende, Ohafia and Arochukwu LGAs) the word, "Ufu" features well in their everyday language..... "Ufu", home (ancestral home/father's home) is used as the opposite of "Mba" or "Uzo Ije" in some cases.

People who live permanently in the ancestral village/town are called, "Ndi Ufu" by "Ndi Uzo Ije".

Sometimes, "Ufu" is also used as the opposite of "Ama"... Ufu is where the homes/houses are located, while "Ama" is the village square.

@slayerforever... in Abia state for instance there are villages called Akoli-ufu, Okpo-ufu (Okpufu).
Priceless!

If you've noticed, the whole of Anambra State is now close to speaking with one dialect
It may not be at the scale you are talking of. But nonetheless as this happens many less used words from the individual dialects are gradually lost.
Politics › Re: NDONI PEOPLE IN RIVERS STATE ARE IGBOS. LISTEN FROM THE HORSES MOUTH. by SlayerForever: 7:32pm On Oct 09, 2021
I will be honest. Sometimes in my private moments I try to imagine what the Igbo society would have sounded like a thousand years ago. I always imagined that if I were to suddenly appear among my ancestors I would not understand them fully. Or maybe at all. Even many practices I would witness would stun me.

I could tell this would be the case because of our place names which we Igbos of today can't decipher. Secondly, I know for sure languages evolve. Some words are dropped entirely whilst some that never existed are added. Some pronunciations modified over ages etc etc.

Mind boggling!

Now that I think of it.
I remember that once I was in Isuikwuato, I noticed the people used Uru on regular basis in place of Uno/Ulo.

You hear things like: Laa la Uhu, chi ejiela!
Meaning go home , it is late.
Great!
