kmcutez:Ada is 100% Igbo word, I am sure you know that. You must have seen 1000s of people by that name.. Ada means, "daughers of the land or sometimes title for the first daughter. Irri/Iri is a number in Igbo... Ada Irri becomes 10 daughters.. Numbers is a very common place-naming pattern/tradition amongst Igbos. Some of the 1000s examples are Mba-ISE. Mba - ANO, Umunna- ATO, Isuikwu- ATO.... These are known places and the capitalised words are numbers. 4 Likes |

SlayerForever:You are very correct in your calculated guess. Get a language map of Delta state and you'll see clearly that Isoko is sandwiched between Igbo and Urhobo communities. It appears that Isoko language though heavily tilted towards Urhobo contains more of Igbo words and a good number of them easily understand Igbo. Even the Isokos know that some of their communities were founded by Igbos. Sadly, some of them will ignorantly today replace the word Igbo with Aboh just like that lady has been doing. They think it makes any difference. You can see how she's already claiming that Igbo speaking communities(Ndoni) in an Igbo dominant area are Isokos. Isn't it funny? |

Fejoku: Calling them Aboh or stylishly insinuating they may be Isoko communities na just play nọ worry Isoko being a hybrid ethnicity of Igbo and Urhobo is a real (but funny) possibility |

Fun fact : If Isoko are hybrid of Urhobo and Igbo it may explain why the people were not comfortable under the Urhobo shadow |

SlayerForever:Isoko is a mixture of mostly Urhobos and Igbos. Ijaws and other edoids also added to the mix to create the feeling of distinction Isokos cling to when they disclaimed to be Urhobos. Some names of their communities confirm this. It isn't a hybrid like you called it. One can clearly see that most of the Edoid tribes of the lower central delta like the Epie-Atissa, Egenni, Degema etc travelled through Isokoland before getting to their present location. You see language and the names of communities really tell a lot about a people's origin. No matter how they try to hide it, it always exposes their lies. |

kmcutez:I told you last time that you are the most confused human on earth and your confusion also dey confuse me. You are neither here nor there. It's better you choose either Isoko, Aboh, Ika Edo or Urhobo so that your own children will not partake of this identity crises. |

Ekealterego:read the article I quoted. He specifically said Agbor was was derived from the word, agbon meaning world. Igbos don't call world or people agbọn it's Edos that call world or human being agbọn |

Fejoku: On the other hand if they were hybrids of both you would have more Igbo elements about them. I don't think there is sufficient knowledge of these to conclusively say they Isoko are descended from both groups. Diffusion of cultural elements from near groups can easily be mistaken for shared |

Igboid: It’s a terrible loss all around for all lectal communities, and pan-Igboism as it stands is just not worth it. But I guess it’s inevitable considering the effects of colonialism and Christianity on Igbo-speaking communities’ self-identity (and lectal utility). |
Re: NDONI PEOPLE IN RIVERS STATE ARE IGBOS. LISTEN FROM THE HORSES MOUTH. by Fejoku: 7:13pm On Oct 10, 2021 |
SlayerForever:You don't get. The word Hybrid is rarely used for human relationship as it connotes the classification of either of the contributory group being weaker and the other strong. It's rarely used for humans and best suited for non-humans. |

Igboid: The sound shifts show a different etymological pattern in proto-Igbo reconstruction. Ipu, ifu, iwhu, ipfu, ivu, etc points to a potentially older bilabial sound that might be reminiscent of “-pw-“. Uhu, uru, etc points to an older, potentially “s”-type sound in linguistic reconstruction. These words show vastly different reconstructions. The tone patterns are also different, suggesting different etymologies. |

Walkee:I know what you mean or what the article says, however, people from that area sometimes theorise the meaning of their place names wrongly and displayed in the article. Agbor/Abo/Agbo is literarily in almost every local government in Igbo land. Igbo place naming patterns especially in that area do make default reference to physical geography (relief) of the area or position of a place in reference to a settlement. In Delta North for instance, many of the place name patterns follow that trait. Oshimili (River), Igbouzo (Igbo by the road), Enuani (upland), Ukwuani (lowland or "foot land", Akwukwu Igbo (Igbo by the side), Elugu (hill), Agbor (down or farthest) and Agbor reflects this, given that it is basically almost the farthest "Igbo speaking" groups towards the border with Edo state. (I use Igbo speaking, because the actual political/ethnic identity is divided). 2 Likes |

Nwanyiogwashi:I'll have to disagree with you nwanyi oma. History is replete with footprints that helps us identify whatever we share. Some might be wanted while others unwanted but the truth has to be said the way it is. I always thought Isokos where an Igbo group during my childhood days because of how I interacted with one family as a whole during my primary school days. It was a wealthy and large family of about three wives. One of the wives spoke Igbo to me even when my friends don't speak Igbo. It's the popular Asieba family in my childhood neighbourhood I'm talking about. Today I know they aren't an Igbo group but I still clearly see that link like yesterday. It is what it is. |

Igboid: This is actually one of the few things that shocked me and I had to look into it. “Uhu” in place names is rather uncommon for the area. In short, from what I gathered, it’s really predominantly eastern Ndoki that have “uhu” prevalently in place names. For the rest of the area, “uhu” is known as a word, though “ulo/uro” is more commonly used. |
