BlueRayDick: U are right, some of these things are calculated attempt at distracting the people from The real issues .
The Wole Soyinka outburst against Obi, the introduction of the national anthem and now this phantom restructuring story . All of these 3 came on the heels of Tinubu marking one year anniversary in office with nothing tangible to show for his one year residency at the seat of power .
Investors are leaving in droves , some existing investors are shunning the country to invest elsewhere and we have food inflation going above the roof. They don’t want u discussing all these , they just want u discussing whether the national anthem was composed by a foreigner in a contest that overlooked hundred of Nigerians or that Wole Soyinka who took over a radio station with a gun in his youthful days is in a position to call out youths who insulted him for what he’s become in old age.
These things don’t matter , but that’s want they want us discussing and they are actually succeeding at it What is this thing that Soyinka has become that he wasn't earlier |

You don't do surgery without anaesthetics and antibacterials or the pain and resultant infections will kill the patient long before you even attempt to start solving anything Saving the life is the most important thing if its life threatening like the situation Nigeria found itself where we have kicked the can down the road and now run out of road to kick it . You have seen warfronts where surgeries were done without the best care barely any anaesthesia and they couldnt wait to transport to where best conditions exist You can fly the patient to a hospital and they arrive dead or just deal with the pain and inconvenience while doing that amputation immediately |

Unlimited22: Easy for you to to say from a mansion in Texas. You're not the one who has to see people develop corneal ulcers because they can no longer afford 1000 to buy fluconazole ointment. You're not the one who's harassed to the point of exhaustion at every turn by people whose livelihoods can no longer keep them alive. You're not the one whose power generating costs have swallowed up his business profits and even capital. You're not the one who stays out till midnight rather than hear the cries of hunger pangs from his young children. You're not the one contributing funds to save indigent patients from certain death and/or blindness because without treatment they can't afford, they are surely dying or going blind. You're not the one whose transport costs have doubled and tripled while salary has stayed the same. You're not the one watching hasty decisions taken and equally hastily reversed to no avail. You're not the one who sees a government declare that subsidy is gone only to continue paying it quietly months later while transport costs are crushing him like The sky does Atlas. You're not the one earning in a currency where inflation makes you a third poorer by the year. You're not the one who'll make business plans and forecasts only to have your dreams crushed by one bloated lawmaker who's never done an honest day's work in his life. Again, easy for you to postulate from an air-conditioned room in Texas. While all these are true you still will agree that these did not start today and its decades of decay So why will you expect damage of 40yrs to be fixed in 1yr? 8million Nigerians trusted Tinubu to turn around the economy and he is doing a great job so far |

Roland17: We are already doing something similar to that with the 13% (is it still 13%) derivation and it hasn't resolved anything. As long as the North have the population which is the ultimate determinant of elections in Nigeria, then we may never have true fiscal Federalism because our biggest resource is not in the North. Our crude oil powers our economy and nothing can rival that at this time.
I am not advocating scrapping the FG but we need to seriously reduce the amount of power they have. Remember, when I started, I said, I do not necessarily think regional is the solution but it is better than whatever we have right now. Like Unlimited22 said, make everybody show their working and bear the consequences. There can be a way to collaboratively benefit from resources in each region but it has to be defined by the region that owns the resource. That 13% or whatever percent, Needs to be getting to the grassroot to the LG where the lives of the people are mostly impacted. When it gets to the LG not to the State, LG then we hope they will do right by their people and if they don't the people who live close to them can hold them The problem is not the North or anyone, Just like you said the states getting 13% and not doing much, Is it the North that stopped them? 13% gets to the governor, he converts it to Dollars and stash into his personal account. If we reduce the power of the FG and hand it over to States will it be better or maybe its better to hand it to LG I have seen people here complain and reject handing e.g policing to state governors With regional its say 6 regions, the states things got closer to the people since 36 has more granular than 6. what will make it even better is if it gets to the level of 774 LGA. If they now give you 60% for your LG and you steal it, then its left to your people to hold you accountable or defend you like they did to Ibori and Alams. Then na you sabi after that but at least you cannot blame one bogeyman North West or South |

Exactly. What a stellar job he's doing. All these are as a result of decades of mismanagement of the country and economy. Which is what Tinubu has been doing starting with removal of subsidies, giving LG autonomy Nigeria did not spoil in 1yr and will not be repaired in 1yr The moves made by Tinubu so far shows why more Nigerians trusted him to govern the country than other candidates So far, he is doing a stellar job |

Roland17: Currently, that same Auchi man has Federal political representation of his community in Abuja which is outside Edo and farther from Calabar or PH. You are never going to eliminate the differences but the similarities, geographically especially is a tremendous pro that brings governance closer to the people in comparison to what we have now. The idea is to drastically reduce the power at the top because it is not devolving to the people who need most.
As it stands today, the SW and SE are better positioned to transition away from the Federal/ top heavy system of Government. As for the embolden, just forget about it because the North will never allow it to happen because they will suffer most if we practice true fiscal resource control and Federalism. our LGs need total autonomy even if we move away from Federalism. The proposed Region is replacing State govt and not replacing FG When we ran the regional system, there was still FG but nothing like State govt. Basically you are collapsing 36 states into 6 under 1 FG Regarding Fiscal autonomy, It can be sold that you keep 60% and send 40% to the center or whatever percentage works |

Roland17: I don't think the idea is to totally eliminate the differences because that is impossible, even if every state becomes a country of it's own. The truth is, considering our population, land mass and other dynamics, our system of government is too big and expensive, consequently, the people, especially those in the local government are not benefitting from governance. An Auchi man and Calabar man may not have similar cultures but they have more similarities between both in comparison to a Norther or SW. Now, I don't necessarily think a regional system will resolve all our issues or is the best but I know our current Federal system isn't working for the majority. I am in agreeement that the current system is not working effectively but IMO the best way around it is fiscal autonomy and strenghtening of LG Carrying everyone into regions will not work well, When we had regions, The Midwest broke away the Eastern minorities were always seeking to break away from the Eastern region. Its the agitation to control your local destiny that led us to 36 states By going regional into say 6 regions you are basically telling the man from Auchi who is going to Benin to now have to travel to Calabar or PH for representation or telling the Offa or Igbira man to travel to far away Jos instead of Ilorin and Lokoja who are relatively nearer The closer the govt And each federating unit is to the people the better, Its easier for someone in Ikere Ekiti who doesnt have water to approach his LG chairman at the LG headquarters 15mins away than for him to have to travel to Ibadan a journey of 4hrs to meet his rep he probably knows the chairman and the chairman lives among them vs the guys in Ibadan |

Lets even say SW and SE will agree to the regional arrangement because we are largely of same stock, So where and how do you propose the SS region come together? what similarity is any exist between Auchi man and A Calabar man. Where will capital be, what do they have in common, they dont even speak the same language nor worship the same thing nor believe in the same thing An Edo man that has tasted autonomy will now be banded with someone from AkwaIbom and be taking orders from wherever the capital is (Assume its portharcourt) Na from SS and NC(middle belt) that talk of regional govt will scatter |

[quote author=basilico post=127255855]Everyone sees what they want to see and believe whatever they want. Newsom father in law ran away from Commiefornia to Florida because of better safety, lower taxes and better governance.😜😜
who watched the debate yesterday knew Desantis floored Newsom
The debate was to debate Blue state policy vs Red state Policy
While Ron was able to state that California is so dirty that it has a shiit map, homelessness was all over, Newsom father inlaw fled to Florida, That how bad school books were promoting pornography for kids, and how Newsom had his own kids in private school during covid while he shut public schools, Disney Florida stayed open during covid while Disney California was shut
The only point Newsome kept making was that neither he nor Desantis will be nominee and he should drop out for Nikki Haley. How is this part of his blue state policy?
Newsom had significant trouble with the truth even when showed facts and numbers like Education in California, Covid death numbers, Taxes, Gas prices and even number of people who fled the state
The sucker punch Ron DeSantis delivered to him was that California is the most naturally blessed state in the country with beautiful weather how Newsom managed to chase people away from beautiful California |
