The DSS primary function is for the protection of VIPs i.e The President his family, Govs, etc and also task with counter terrorism operations.
As for human rights violation, the DSS is as guilty as other agencies it's just that they're more discreet in their modus operandi. For the kind of weapon they carry, it's only normal for them to use the Tavor series, Uzi etc because those weapons are meant for close quarter combat which is more suitable for DSS to carryout their role in addition to that, they're easy to conceal and carry.
