Fashion / Different Ways To Wear Ankara Like A Pro by slicereports(f): 11:42pm On Apr 04, 2016
I was thinking of ways I could style my Ankara materials so I don’t have to only wear it on Sundays.

When looking to describe Ankara fashion the first word that comes to mind is “bold”. The african inspired fashion prints notoriously known as Ankara can be a bit overwhelming at first glance. However, over the last 10 years Ankara has become a seasonable fashion staple, showing up on runways and in fashion outlets year after year. Although in the world of high fashion where anything goes, Ankara fits in just fine.
However, for the average person finding ways to incorporate Ankara into their everyday wardrobe can be difficult. Those who do not want to come across too “loud” but still wear this African inspired style can do so by implementing a few tried and true fashion secrets. We recommend combining an Ankara piece with professional neutrals for work. As well as introducing signature Ankara accessories into your regular outfits to give them an edgy look. You can also draw inspiration from street fashion and online bloggers to master the art of print mixing. With a bit of clever styling Ankara can work for anyone and really give your current wardrobe a modern update.

So here are some ways I suggest you can style and wear Ankara anywhere: http://slicereports.com/blog/2016/04/04/different-ways-wear-ankara-like-pro/

From the blue cape dress that cemented my style crush on Rita to the Afro hair she finally got right, she has become a style inspiration to many.

Celebrities / Four Female Nigerian Celebrities With Incredible Style Transformations by slicereports(f): 12:09am On Mar 23, 2016
There is nothing more attractive in a person than personal growth. What a lot of people do not know is personal growth should also include outward appearances and style: that is How We Look.

These celebrities I will mention have actually gone through huge style transformation; going from giving us heart attacks on the red carpet or being plain normal to becoming style Divas’.

1. RITA DOMINIC: Rita is certainly number one on this list. When I looked up some of Rita’s picture on the red carpet from way before now, I found it very difficult to reconcile the two women.

She went from going unnoticed on the red carpet for her style to going to becoming a huge style Einstein in the country.

Health / Re: Top 15 Tips To Stay Healthy During Pregnancy by slicereports(f): 12:06am On Mar 22, 2016
7. Change Up Chores- Even everyday tasks like scrubbing the bathroom or cleaning up after pets can become risky when you’re pregnant. Exposure to toxic chemicals, lifting heavy objects, or coming in contact with bacteria can harm you and your baby. Here are some things to take off your to-do-list:

– Heavy lifting
– Climbing on stepstools or ladders
– Changing kitty litter (to avoid toxoplasmosis, a disease caused by a parasite which cats can carry)
– Using harsh chemicals
– Standing for long periods of time, especially near a hot stove

Also, wear gloves if you’re working in the yard where cats may have been, and wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw meat.

8. Track Your Weight Gain- Yeah, you’re eating for two. But packing on too many extra pounds may make them hard to lose later. At the same time, not can gaining enough weight put the baby at risk for a low-weight birth, a major cause of developmental problems.
Check in with your doctor frequently to make sure you’re gaining at a healthy rate.

If you’re thinking about getting pregnant or if you are already pregnant; you probably know some of the basics about taking care of yourself and the baby; Don’t smoke, don’t drink, rest, blah blah blah! Well, there are a lot more to that so here are more tips, from taking vitamins to what to do with yourself to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy:

1. Take a Prenatal Vitamin- Even when you’re still trying to conceive, it’s smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby’s neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it’s important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start.

Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack.

2. Exercise- Staying active is a must for most moms-to-be. Regular exercise will help you control your weight, improve circulation, boost your mood, and help you sleep better. Plus, getting into an exercise habit now will help you set a good example for your child after she’s born.

Swimming and walking are all great activities for most pregnant women, but be sure to check with your doctor first before starting any exercise program. Aim for 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week. Listen to your body, though, and don’t overdo it.

3. Write a Birth Plan- Write down your birth wishes and give a copy to everyone involved with the delivery. Here are some things you can answer in your birth plan:

– Who you want present, including children or siblings of the baby
– Procedures you want to avoid
– What positions you prefer for labor and delivery
– Special clothing you’d like to wear
– Whether you want music or a special focal point
– Whether you want pain medications, and what kind
– What to do if complications arise

5. Educate Yourself- Even if this isn’t your first baby, attending a childbirth class will help you feel more prepared for delivery. Not only will you have the chance to learn more about childbirth and infant care, but you can ask specific questions and voice any concerns. You’ll also become more acquainted with the facility and its staff.

Now is also a good time to brush up on your family’s medical history. Talk to your doctor about problems with past pregnancies, and report any family incidences of birth defects.

6. Practice Kegels- Kegels strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which support your bladder, bowels, and uterus. If done correctly, this simple exercise can help make your delivery easier and prevent problems later with incontinence. Here’s how to do them right:
– Practice squeezing as though you’re stopping the flow of urine when you use the bathroom.
– Hold for three seconds, then relax for three.

Politics / You Must Remove Oil Subsidy, Tinubu Tells Buhari by slicereports(f): 8:16pm On Dec 19, 2015
National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to remove fuel subsidy without further delay.

In a key note address yesterday in Kaduna on the 10th memorial anniversary of late Bala Usman, a politician, and former lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Tinubu described the oil subsidy as, ‘many demons’.

The APC national leader noted that if Bala Usman were alive, he would have equally called for immediate removal of the subsidy, adding, “What I have said here is more than talk. It is a call to action”.

Politics / Let The Past Be by slicereports(f): 11:17pm On Dec 15, 2015
I have come across many references to the past. Some state that the past is very important because it is a guide to the future; some believe that the past must address its present (apologies to Soyinka in his Nobel Lecture) and some, like I want to be part of now, believe that the past is gone and should be allowed to rest in peace; however only to be remembered for its good contributions. I have decided to join this group of philosophers because of what is happening in the country now and what will happen in the near future. I am really worried about the current developments where things are going wrong and out of place and many of the critical minds feign ignorance of them all.

It is not that I do not know the importance of a clean and relevant reference to the past, it is only that I am somehow afraid of a complete reliance on the past for actions of the present.

Let me not go too far in search of justification for my position as I make this allusion. This is a digital age and just the immediate past – a very short while ago – was analogue. It will indeed be analogous to use the analogue instrument to broach digital problems; this is a democratic dispensation and just the immediate past – a very short while ago – was the era of military dictatorship. It is also an aberration to apply dictatorship standards in the democratic age. We must therefore be careful with the past.

Standards change every day and as we talk, changes are taking place. We are in an age that is characterized by an extremely fast mode of change. This is why Humanists call it the post modern age. It is an age where it becomes not too easy to determine the status of development be- cause one wonders what becomes the real definition or meaning of “modern.” For instance, we would ask in Modernist Studies, what do we do with a Modern that is no longer modern? The prefix, “post” helps solve a bar- rage of problems associated with such uncertainties. For instance, we begin a project or programme and just before we are done with it, that has already become post programme or post project. I say all these because it appears as if our country is not in a hurry to join the entire humanity in her pursuit of modernity and race against time; rather, we relish in a constant romance with the past. I have a few experiences that come to mind.

He is one of the best actors Nollywood can boast of. When he came into the industry many years ago, there was virtually no blockbuster movie that didn’t feature him. From Candle Light to Sakobi, Goodbye Tomorrow to Heart of Gold, Festival of Fire to Executive Crime and his own production, Take Me to Mama, Obinna Nwafor popularly known as Saint Obi has scored big with his A-class performance. In this interview with TS Weekend, the fair skinned actor, director and producer narrates how he found a new passion in music and what he intends doing with it. Excerpts.

Politics / Coup In Burkina Faso As Military Dissolves Interim Government by slicereports(f): 9:16pm On Sep 17, 2015
Bukina faso military has taken over the government of the country in a coup that occurred last night. The Burkina Faso military in a TV broadcast today said it had stripped interim President Michel Kafando of his functions and dissolved the government.
This coup comes less than a month before elections meant to restore democracy in the West African country.
Burkina Faso was plunged into chaos yesterday night when the elite Republican Guard, a pillar of long-time former President Blaise Compaore’s regime, seized President Kafando, Prime Minister Yacouba Isaac Zida, and two ministers.
The powerful presidential guard has repeatedly meddled in politics since Compaore was toppled in a popular uprising in October last year.
“The patriotic forces, grouped together in the National Council for Democracy, have decided today to put an end to the deviant transitional regime,” a military official said on RTB state television.
