The 2015 Governorship election will be keenly contested this time in Imo State, the incumbent Governor Owelle Anayo Rochas was massively supported in his last outing (2011 Governorship election), this year election will be a different case. Some Imolites are not impressed with the Governor’s performance while some other people consider his alliance with the APC as a betrayal to the Igbo cause, orders consider him as the best Governor in the history of Imo State. Honestly his achievement in Imo state is legendary. The Governor is up against two Governorship aspirants namely Emeka Ihedioha, the Deputy Speaker of Federal House of Representative and Captain Emanuel Iheanacho, former Minister of Interior; these two candidates are set to be up against the incumbent Governor. We will look at the chances of the three Governorship aspirants in three Senatorial Zones in Imo State. ANALYSIS ORLU SENATORIAL ZONE Orlu is actually the biggest Senatorial Zone in Imo with 12 Local Government Areas (LGA’s) out of 27 LGA’s in Imo State. This is the Zone of the Incumbent Governor; The Governor is receiving an overwhelming support from his people and has transformed the zone with his developmental projects. The zone is an envy of other zones in Imo State as Owelle’s successful re-election and completed Governance will mean the zone has ruled Imo for 16years.Orlu Local Government and some other Local Government in Orlu zone is becoming developed and is gradually catching up with Owerri, the Capital of Imo State. However, people in Ohaji/Egbema LGA an oil producing area in the State are not in full support with the Governor, reason being that the Governor sold Ada Palm, the oil palm processing company to a private establishment which rubbed them off their source of livelihood, and he also insisted that the people should start paying their electric bills, the refusal of these people to pay their electric bills has lead them to be out of power supply for almost a year. The people are also not happy with the Governor’s decision of decentralizing Imo State polytechnic to other parts of Imo State. This LGA has always been a PDP area and the parade the former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly Goodluck Nana Opiah a die-hard PDP member and a sworn enemy of the Governor leading the opposition. People in Oguta LGA are also against the Governor, this is an oil producing area, and the people don’t have a member representing them in Imo State house of assembly for a whole tenure (4years). Oguta is parading the former Senator of Orlu Zone Arthur Nzeribe a political veteran and rabble-rouser, Arthur Nzeribe is a staunch PDP member and he is expected to lead the attack against the APC Governor. Other political gladiators in the Zone such as former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa a PDP member and the current Senator representing Orlu Zone Hope Uzodimmna are set to upset the Governor in his re-election bid. Owelle fought tirelessly for “The People’s General” in the just concluded Presidential election against the PDP and he is expecting to receive a helping hand from the President-elect. The Governor’s alliance with Okechukwu is actually a good thing for Imo people as Imo may be the only state in South East that will not be in Opposition to the Federal Government. Most of the people that voted General Buhari in Imo voted because of Owelle. The Imo Security Network setup by Governor which was not allowed to play a role in presidential election will now have a free hand in tomorrow’s elections. With the power of incumbency at his disposal and an overwhelming support from his people, Owelle is likely going to face little resistance in his zone. VERDICT Owelle amasses huge votes in Orlu Zone. OWERRI SENATORIAL ZONE Owerri Senatorial zone has 9 LGA’s; it is the zone of the PDP Governorship flag bearer, the Deputy Speaker of Federal House of Representative Emeka Ihedioha, and also the zone of APGA Governorship flag bearer and former Minister for Interior, Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho. The two candidates are set to slug it out in the battle of obtaining huge votes than the other in their own zone. Owerri Municipal the capital of Imo is likely going to be a battle ground for the three Governorship candidate. PDP in Imo State has a formidable political structure and its members are money bag politicians these people are ready to win the election by hook or by crook. The deputy speaker is banking on the support of his Mbaise people to garner votes for him at the polls. The Mbaise people are not really impressed with the Deputy speaker’s performance, but this will be thrown aside in tomorrow’s election, as they known to be the most nepotistic people (they favour their own people than any other people) in Imo State. Another plus for the speaker is the presence of the political gladiators in the zone, the likes of Senator Chris Anyanwu, Emmanuel Iwuanywu, Bethel Amadi, Sam Daddy, Malcom are all a plus for the Deputy speaker. The presence of Engr Emmanuel Iwuanyawu in Ikeduru LGA is an advantage to the speaker as Ikeduruis going to experience massive rigging, along with Mbaitolu. Captain Iheanacho on the order hand lacks the political structure to win election in the state and he also lacks the financial power to see his way through. He has not been able to campaign vigorously across the state and little is known about him in villages across the state, this is a big minus for the captain as he lacks the foot soldiers that will do the rigging for him. The captain strong hold is actually in Owerri North his LGA and most part of Owerri Municipal. The captain performed creditably well during his days as the minister of interior and also gave employment to a lot of youths in high paying job. This is supposed to be the man for the Douglas house, but his political platform and lack political structure will be is biggest undoing. VERDICT A vote for Captain Iheanacho is wasted vote. Emeka Ihedioha wins in Owerri zone. OKIGWE SENATORIAL ZONE This is the smallest Senatorial zone with 6 LGA’s, despite ruling Imo State twice, this is the least developed zone in Imo state. The immediate past Governor of Imo State Ikedi Ohakim performed woefully in the state and could not do anything tangible to develop his zone to be at the same level with other senatorial zone in the state. The zone has no notable and serious Governorship aspirant in the state. This zone parades political gladiator in the state and heavy rigging in the favour of PDP will be experienced in this zone. Okigwe zone has always been a PDP area since 1999 and a lot can happen in this area any time, the Eze’s, and Chief’s in these areas are known for imposing candidates for support to the people, the people in these area sheepishly obeys the political heavy weights without any question. Sharing of money right there at the polling unit will be the order of the day. These people are not interested in whoever wins the election but are only interested in money giving to them at the polling unit, these zone have the least enlightened people in the whole Imo state. The APC members in the zone are not financially buoyant and they will prove to be no match their PDP counterpart. The APC Senatorial aspirant in the zone and the current Speaker of the Imo State house of assembly Chief Benjamin Uwajimogu who lost in his election bid will be swallowed up in tomorrow’s election. If the Owelle and security operatives are not on top of their game in these area, Owelle will receive a huge blow. VERDICT Emeka Ihedioha will receive a clean sweep in this area. CONCLUSION Tomorrow’s election will be keenly contested, the incumbent Governor will not get an overwhelming support from the whole state this time, voters turnout will be key. The likes of Ken Ojiri of Accord party and Osmond Imo Ukanacho of UPP who are not included in the equation stand no chance in tomorrow’s election. Tomorrow’s election will be battle of the political gladiators, the election might be violent and lives are likely to be lost. OVERALL VERDICT Owelle Anayo Okorocha Rochas emerges as the winner.

In politics in deed, there is no permanent friend and no permanent enemy. This came to light last Friday as ex-Imo Governor Ikedi Ohakim and his arch-political enemy and APGA leader Chief Martin Agbaso met in the ex-governor’s residence at Mbano and both ate and dined together, to the admiration of their supporters and kinsmen. According to UnionMail reporter who was present at the occasion, Chief Agbaso had called on the ex-governor who was giving out one of his daughters in marriage that afternoon. And it was a visit which had tremendous political significance to those who knew about the four year political war that had raged and estranged the relationship of the two top Imo politicians for over four years. Chief Agbaso had dragged the Isiala Mbano born ex-governor to the different courts of the land trying to unseat him as governor between 2007 and 2011. Unknown to Imolites, both Chief Agbaso and Chief Ikedi Ohakim were see morehttp://unionmailnewspapers.com/2015-ohakim-agbaso-reconcile-unite/ |
All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Imo State Leader, Chief Martin Agbaso, has appealed to his party supporters and well wishers in different parts of the state to appreciate that Imo Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha never took him or APGA into confidence in his political appointments in 2011. In the said circumstance, he said it would be wrong for any party man or stakeholder who staked his funds and life for APGA in 2011 to blame him for getting no appointment or patronage from the government. Chief Agbaso was reacting to questions raised by stakeholders who visited him at the weekend to seek explanations on what happened. They had expressed anger and shock that they were abandoned and forgotten soon after the election and inauguration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha as Imo governor on 29th May 2011. Leader of the complaining groups from Orlu and Okigwe, Comrade Peter Esogbula, had accused Chief Agbaso straight to his face that http://unionmailnewspapers.com/2015-agbaso-throws-another-challenge-will-keep-quiet-duped/ |
commissioners and top government appointees by Imo Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has not been well taken by some of them, who now accuse the governor of being ominously silent on the issue of severance allowances which ought to have been paid to them immediately as policy demanded. One of the affected commissioners who spoke to UnionMail but would not want to be named for now said they are all feeling disappointed that the governor just threw them out without assisting them in any way knowing that they made no money from the government.Hear her :http://unionmailnewspapers.com/sacked-imo-commissionerssas-angry-okorochas-silence-severance-allowances/ |
The Abia State Government has attributed the ceaseless attacks on the state and its people by former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu to envy arising form the numerous achievements which it has made in less than four years. Abia Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr Eze Chikamnayo, who led Governor Theodore Orji’s Media Team to address newsmen in Umuahia at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) also alleged that the former governor was not happy because his intention to continue looting Abia was terminated by his successor who has liberated the state. Chikamnayo maintained that Governor Orji, in liberating Abians, ” freed the resources of Abia state for the service and welfare of its long suffering people.” “Since then,” Chikamnayo continued http://unionmailnewspapers.com/kalu-envious-orjis-achievements-chikamnayo/ |
The Imo State House of Assembly has passed a motion rejecting the recently released number of INEC delineated constituencies in the South East geopolitical zone which gave them 8 out of the 30,000 created across the country recently. Moving to the motion, its Chief Speaker and member for Isiala Mbano constituency, Hon. Simeon Iwunze, described it as most inequitable and an act of deliberate marginalization by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Alh. Jeja (who is from the North) to manipulate the outcome of the forthcoming presidential election. He called for the outright rejection of the number of the polling units allocated and called on the Speaker to quickly reach out to his colleagues in the South East for a collective position to the National Assembly. The motion which has the general support of the 24 co-sponsors, berated the act of the Prof. Jega led-INEC against the South East and described it as wicked. PRESS RELEASE: HOW IS CAPT. IHENACHO WORKING FOR ROCHAS? Recently, there is this propaganda that the Nigeria former Minister of Interior Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho is not really running for Imo State governorship race for 2015 election but was ‘planted’ by Governor Rochas Okorocha in APGA to destroy APGA. Regrettably, it is now an accepted culture that the only way to campaign for political positions in Imo State is through blackmail, destructive propaganda, image smearing and malicious criticisms. Captain Ihenacho is said to be among the most mature and civilized of those aspiring to rule Imo State come 2015. Incidentally, he has shown all these qualities in his campaign strategies. He has said it severally that the only way to take power from an incumbent is not through insults and condemnation of all that the government in power does. Any good aspirant must respect a constituted authority to show that he is a good statesman also. When Achike Udenwa was a governor, the likes of Senator Ifeanyi Ararume who wanted to take over from the Orlu-born ex governor never respected Achike as their governor. Also they never revered the position he was occupying which they were longing for. At the end, the position eluded them. During the time of Ohakim, the scenario repeated itself and it ended with the same result. During the 2011 electioneering period, while Ex-Governor Ikedi Ohakim and Senator Ararume were busy blackmailing each other, Owelle Rochas Okorocha was busy ‘selling his product’ which was the so called ‘free education’. Be that as it may, for the fact that Capt Ihenacho appreciates few things done by the present government does not mean that he is working for Governor Okorocha. For the fact that the former minister does insult the governor and does not lead campaign of calumny against the government of the day in Imo State does not mean that the government of the day is doing well. It is instructive to note that Capt Ihenacho has always said that the Okorocha-led government in Imo State has done better than some of its predecessors especially in the area of infrastructure and roads but that there ‘is still a big missing link between what the government is doing and real development’. He has also critically condemned the Okorocha Administration stating that ‘people do not understand many of its policies’. In one of the radio programmes he featured, the Chief Executive of Integrated Oil and Gas had this to say;http://unionmailnewspapers.com/capt-ihenacho-working-rochas/ |

Abagworo: Udenwa is not a criminal and his performance was above average. He has some noteable legacies. On the other hand, he thinks of himself as too important or influential in Orlu zone whereas his relevance has long died down. His reason for leaving APC is this same drama playing out now in his new found love PDP.as far as i am concerned former Governor Ikedi Ohakim is better than Udennwa. Udennwa did nothing in Imo State. |
Imo Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has made it clear that he has forgiven every one who has insulted him one way or the other since he became governor of the state in 2011. Okorocha made this declaration at the Government House Banquet Hall last week, during the inauguration of Imo Peace Corps, comprising the State Commissioner of Police, Commander General of Immigration, Imo Command, the State Controller of Customs, the State Army Commandant, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and the Commissioner for Justice, Chukwuma Machukwu Umeh. According to him, the committee would look into cases of innocent prison inmates who had been waiting for trials, so that such people could be recommended for his prerogative of mercy. He remarked that the prisoners who will regain their freedom by 1st October 2014, would be drawn from the list made by the inaugurated Imo Peace Corps. Earlier in his inaugural speech, the Special Adviser to Governor Rochas Okorocha on Peace and Conflict Resolution, Engr. Peter Ohagwa, stated that the inauguration was for the 1st batch of Imo Peace Advocate Corps, noting that the Peace Corps was set up at the right time when terrorism and war have been ravaging many nations of the world. Ex- governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) guber aspirant Chief Ikedi Ohakim has lashed out at incumbent governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha for seeking credit for the “China” roads he is building in the state. Former Imo Governor Achike Udenwa and his co-returnees to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are not happy with how they are being treated by the presidency and the party, and they are not taking it kindly, with some of them now threatening to do something drastic that could embarrass the president if their grievances are not given due attention. According to UnionMail sources in both Imo and Abuja, the problem is that President Jonathan and the party leadership now appear to be reneging on the promises they had made to the former governor and his group before the group accepted to return to the party and deliver it in the forthcoming general election. The promises in issue were those made to give the returnees as a group 40 percent stake in the party structure. Members of the apex political pressure group of Owerri North people, Owerri North Political Caucus (ONPOLICA) have take final decision on the political differences between Imo All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) leader Chief Martin Agbaso and Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho, both of who incidentally are interested in the governorship ticket of the party for the forthcoming governorship election. The group, comprising the ala crème of Owerri North politics, went into the matter with a view to settling the differences between the two prominent sons and politicians of Owerri North. UnionMail gathered that the group even brought in some respected priests to help make peace between the two long time political friends . The co-ordinator of the group, Chief Ben Anyanwu, told UnionMail that their intervention in the dispute was in line with the aims and objectives of the group, which essentially seeks to advance the political interests of Owerri North irrespective of party affiliation. According to Chief Anyanwu, it was Captain Ihenacho that first complained to the group that a brother of his was working against his interest in APGA. . “That brother turned out to be see more http://unionmailnewspapers.com/owerri-north-political-caucus-decides-agbasoihenacho-case/ |
The Imo House of Assembly, which is expected to resume on the 9th of this month, after a long adjournment, is still limping and may likely defer their resumption following uncertainties over whether or not Imo Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has released funds to settle their outstanding welfare package claims. But the governor is resilient and is prepared to fight back with facts supporting what appears to be his position that the lawmakers are not entitled to what they claim. According to our Assembly sources, the 14 lawmakers comprising the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) are still alleging that Governor Okorocha is unnecessarily punishing them for not moving with him to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and they are resolute and would not return to their job in the House until they have been paid the controvertial allowances they claim to have not received. Few of them told UnionMail that they will not resume on “an empty stomach”. An indication that the solution is not nearby was given by the Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha who recently in Owerri, while holding an interactive session with media chiefs, made it clear to all he has nothing to fear from the lawmakers. He emphatically said that the present lawmakers have been the best remunerated in the history of the state, implying that if they continue to threaten him see more at the link http://unionmailnewspapers.com/impeachment-threat-rochas/
