Politics / Difference Between Militant And Terrorist by slimderek(m): 3:23pm On Jun 17, 2016
Militant vs terrorist:
In a war torn world where many devastating incidents have caused the world to break apart so many times, the terms militant and terrorist are two words that have reached the familiarity of common household names. However, while these two terms are being used interchangeably all over the world, the words militant and terrorist are two words that carry very significant connotations of their own which must not be confused for the sake of humanity.

Who is a militant?
A militant is an individual who is aggressive or violent or intensely active usually for a cause in which they believe in. the word militant is derived from the 15th century Latin term “militare” that translates in to “to serve as a soldier” and hence gives the idea of a defensive group who are at odds with an invading group that threaten their independence or their well being. However, the modern definition of the term militant implies an individual who utilizes vigorous and extreme means of achieving an objective that is usually political. However, they may not use physical violence or combat to attain their means.

Who is a terrorist?
A terrorist is an individual who utilizes terror as a means of coercion, using violence as a means of attaining a religious, political or an ideological goal. Terrorists deliberately target civilians or disregard their safety when in battle and usually employ acts of unlawful violence and war in order to reach their targets. While there are no definite definitions for the word terrorism, a terrorist is usually responsible for the destruction of property, heavy bloodshed, crimes against humanity and etc. Some popular terrorist groups that are that have been plaguing the world more recently can be named as the Al-Qaeda and the LTTE who have been responsible for significant bloodshed around the globe.

What is the difference between a terrorist and a militant?
These two words are often used interchangeably whereas it is usually considered as wrong to do so. However, a militant and a terrorist both have their own agendas and mostly, these agendas are political. The difference however lies in the means with which they hope to achieve their desired goal.

Terrorists are thus named because of the fact that they utilize fear for attaining their desired goal. The way in which they instill fear in people or the state is by using armed violence, destructing public property, destroying and killing innocent people and thereby posing as a threat to human lives and the overall wellbeing of a country or a nation. Terrorists often choose civilians as their targets, thus drawing the attention of the authorities towards themselves while they also target government organizations for their attacks. Militants however, do not use physical violence. They are usually seen to be using verbal violence, taking extreme action to achieve a desired goal. Militants do not target civilians as terrorists do and they have no desire of instilling fear in people and gaining their objective through fear. Militants usually rebel against the state and the authorities with the aim of gaining liberation or independence.

However, it is a commonly known fact that a militant will resolve to terrorism if he or she cannot gain his or her objectives through peaceful means. There is proof that most terrorists initiated their operations as militants, gradually making their way in to becoming fully fledged terrorists. It is said that most militants all over the world support terrorist groups with the aim of gaining their support in fulfilling their respective ambitions. Terrorism is regarded as an offence all over the world and is also looked down upon with much disdain.

Summary
Terrorists use terror to obtain their objectives. Militants do not seek to use terror in obtaining their goals.

Terrorists resort to physical violence whereas militants use more verbal violence.
Terrorists usually target civilians and instill fear in them in order to gain the attention of the authorities. Militants do not harm civilians and instead, they choose to rebel against the state.
Militants will not hesitate to resort to terrorism if their needs are not met.

This information is for Nigeria people alone

CORRUPTION & WASTAGE: Buhari And Jonathan, At A Glance. FACT IS FACT.

1] Jonathan sold Petrol at N87 while Buhari is selling at average of N300 & above, yet Buhari supporters think Jonathan was more corrupt and wasteful.

2] When Jonathan Budgeted N1bn for feeding in Aso-Rock in 2011, and N517m in 2015, APC cried wolf and now Buhari's budget for same is N1.7billion. Yet Buharists are mute and still think GEJ was more corrupt and wasteful.

3] Jonathan spent N1.4bn to service all presidential jets in one year while Buhari spends N6bn on same in 6month yet Buharists
think GEJ was more corrupt and wasteful.

4] Jonathan gave more funding to education while Buhari's 2016
budget favours Ministry of information more than education
yet Buharists think GEJ was more corrupt/wasteful.

5] Jonathan spent an average of N8million on each international
trip while Buhari spends an average of N55million on each
international trip, yet Buharists think GEJ was more corrupt and
wasteful.

6] Jonathan created Over 5.8millon jobs in 5yrs while buhari has
sacked over 2million workers in 8months. Check Federal
Bureau of Statistics.

7] Jonathan made Nigeria's economy the best in Africa and No 1 investment destination & quadrupled our GDP in 4yrs while Buhari has dragged Nigeria's economy down to 14th position in ranking in just 7months.

8] Jonathan left Naira exchange rate @ N185 to $1 but Buhari with his Adama and Eve economics has destroyed the Naira in just 8 months which now sells at N315 to $1.

9] It took Jonathan less than 2weeks to select his cabinet including foreign based technocrats while it took Buhari 6months to do same. Even with indicted people and no single economist among the 36 names.

10] Buhari claimed that subsidy was fraud (Who is subsidizing who@) but buhari has spent N1.2trillion on fuel subsidy in the last 5 months and still no fuel while all Buharists have suddenly gone dumb.

11] Buhari/APC accused Jonathan of corruption but have not been able to pin one stain on him, while Muhammadu Buhari himself followed the crowd that entered into the #DasukiGate.

12] Under Jonathan freedom and liberty of Nigerians was not determined by party affiliation, but today under Buhari his perceived enemies and political opponents are leveled with frivolous allegations of crimes and intimidated with either the EFCC or the DSS.

13] Buhari does not have an Honorary WAEC but bags an
illegal Honorary (Ph.D) from a university that have no PhD student and Not approved by NUC and yet Buharists respect his NEPA Bill more than GEJ's PhD.

14. Buhari used his secondary school principal's recommendation letter to become Military Head of State and again used Court Affidavit to become President and no one reminded him that these are the height of corruption.
He Refused to declare his assets public, suppressing the FOI and denied all his 81 election promises and stayed in the last 8 months blaming former leaders. Jonathan was in that position, he never complained or blamed anyone, but faced his work even when Buhari's disgruntled brother ensured that Nigeria will know no peace. - Hope For Nigeria

@ op, be sincere it was not this bad under Jonathan, mind you the shortage of fuel towards the end of Jonathan's tenure was a grand manipulations from the detractors of his government just to whip up sentiments from the already angry electorates who are hell bent to get him out. Jonathan's government had the singular honour of stopping our seasonal December 24th-28th shortage of fuel we witnessed for 6 years under Obj's eight years.... This is the noble truth.
Just what i was thinking.
God bless you sir

I like Ben Bruce because of his constructive criticism. But I think we should not all see this travelling of the President as just touring the world we need to accept the fact that the last administration has really dented the image of this country and He(Buhari) is just trying to portray the good image of Nigeria and attract investors to the country. If really we are interested in diversification of the economy we need to support this govt and if they fail we can also boot them out come 2019.

Ben Bruce you have my respect as your constructive criticism is always welcome.
Bro, You can't Portray a good image when you dont have one, Nigeria isnt Investor Friendly. I'd Advise Buhari to work on the Economy before looking for Investors who would probably end up loosing if they invested in the country. A lot of Investors are closing up shop in the Nation, Why not work on retaining the ones you have already than go seek for new Ones.
