Crime / Police Arrest Eight Suspects Over Varsity Lecturer’s Killing by slimgold123(f): 7:36pm On Jan 12, 2016
The Osun State Police Command has arrested eight suspects in connection with the murder of Dr. Adedeji Adejobi, who was a lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Economics, Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Deji Adejobi.

The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Kola Sodipo, said this in Osogbo on Tuesday at a press conference to review activities of the command in the last quarter of 2015.

He said, ” The command has been able to lay hands on eight suspects in the case of armed robbery and murder of Dr. Adedeji Adejobi, a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University and Abdulahhi, the street security guard.

“The suspects confessed that the beretta pistol which was used to kill Dr. by Adegoke Adeolu belongs to Abiodun Damilola Jawefa and Anthony Okoro who is at large.

“ Police report on the killing contradicted the assassination claims in some quarters as the Commissioner stated that the gang had earlier snatched a Toyota Corolla at Ilesa which they used to trail the deceased who was driving home in his Toyota Venza , a sport utility van. He said the laptop computer of the deceased, phones and cash were recovered at Sabo Ibadan from one of the suspects, Faisal Musa, who he said was one of the major receivers of stolen goods.

NYSC / The Only Good Reason To Start A Business In 2016 by slimgold123(f): 12:25pm On Jan 08, 2016
It seems that every content generator on Earth has banged out a post with 10, 13, 21, 34, even 50 reasons to start your own business. And that’s just in 2015 alone.

The only problem is that every single one of those reasons in every single article is self- serving.
Truth is, customers couldn't care less about that.

There really is only one good reason to start a business: You’ve discovered a market need – a customer problem that begs to be solved – and have the passion and commitment to come up with a better solution than what’s out there. That’s what real entrepreneurs do.

Every successful business I’ve ever heard of started that way. Every single one. No exceptions. No kidding. Here are just a few examples, off the top of my head:

•GrubHub was founded by Matt Maloney and Mike Evans. While working on a job, the pair got hungry and that’s when it hit them that there was no one- stop-shop online for food delivery from local restaurants.

•Once the Web grew from a collection of static pages to an interactive platform, Matt Mullenweg knew users would need an open source content management system, so he created WordPress.

•After leaving Yahoo, Jan Koum and Brian Acton felt the need for a messaging app with no ads, no games, and no gimmicks. That was the genesis of WhatsApp, which was acquired by Facebook for $19 billion.

•Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp founded Uber as an app built on scalable infrastructure to get people rides from one place to another.

•Richard Branson created a discount mail-order record store, Virgin Records, because he was frustrated with paying exorbitant prices for music and thought others felt the same way.

•Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak created Apple Computer to meet the growing demand for fully assembled personal computers with a display and interface for loading and saving programs. Today, Apple is the most valuable company in the world. When friends asked for custom PCs, Michael Dell started building them to order out of his Austin, Texas, dorm room. That became Dell Computer.

•Fred Smith came up with the idea of using a bank clearing house concept to more efficiently ship packages from one place to another. That’s how Federal Express was born.
•Bill Gates loved writing programming languages and customers needed them, so he started Microsoft for just that purpose. With a billion people and little brick and mortar infrastructure, China had thousands of small merchants with no easy way to reach customers.

•Jack Ma built Alibaba to meet that need. I could go on, but you get the point.

Look, there’s a massive amount of hype around entrepreneurship these days. You can’t visit a single website without reading about it. So the pressure to conform to this particular social norm is enormous.

And I understand how easy it is to start a company with a website and a blog. It costs almost nothing to get started. Not only that, but it feels good to have a site, a company, a business you can call your own.

But none of that changes the laws of supply and demand, the fundamentals of competitive markets, and what it takes to start and build a successful business over the long haul. They’re as true in today’s virtual world as they’ve always been in the real one.

So if you’re going to forsake your career, and give up the opportunity to learn and gain experience by working for others, it’s a good idea to know upfront what you’re up against so you have the best chance of winning in the end. Without the passion and commitment to come up with a better solution to a problem that really matters, that will never happen.

Don’t just take it from me and all those successful entrepreneurs. After reading my new book, Real Leaders Don’t Follow, an old friend and business associate who’s had a long and successful career, Ziv Azmanov, sent me an email that, among other things, does a pretty effective job of explaining what distinguishes real entrepreneurs from the pack:

What makes real entrepreneurs is their passion and commitment to solve a problem/need that really matters to them. These people are also willing to take the great personal risk, and make the significant effort that's required to solve this problem.

Ziv goes on to say that "innovation is also part of it since they are trying to solve a problem that either hasn't been solved until now, or was solved in an insufficient manner."

And he's absolutely right. That's what real entrepreneurs do. And that is the only good reason to start a business in 2016 … or any year, for that matter.

Nairaland / General / Aregbesola, Ooni Others Condole With Makinde Family-punch by slimgold123(f): 8:42am On Dec 29, 2015
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, and the Peoples Democratic Party, have expressed condolences to the family of the late Minority Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Dejo Makinde.

The lawmaker, who was one of the two members of the PDP at the assembly, died on Sunday on the day he clocked 48 years, leaving behind an aged mother, wife and children. The Ooni, in a condolence message issued on his behalf on Monday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Ile Ife, Mr. Moses Olafare, described the news of the lawmaker’s death as shocking.

Ooni’s condolence message read, “Ile Oodua received the news of the sudden death of Honorable Dejo Makinde with rude shock. Hon Makinde representing Ife Central Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly was a gentleman endowed with attributes of ‘Omoluabi’ and his positive impacts will remain indelible on the minds of not only inhabitants of Ile-Ife but the entire Osun State, having patriotically served as Ife Central Local Government boss and a legislator representing Ife Central Constituency in the state House of Assembly.
“His Imperial Majesty, The Arole Oodua, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi(Ojaja II), hereby expresses the condolences of Ile Oodua to the members of his immediate and extended family, relatives, friends, political associates, fellow state legislators and all his Ife Central constituents’ for whom he had been a very good ambassador in the last 18 months. “

Aregbesola also expressed condolence to the family of the deceased and the PDP in the state. He urged the family and the supporters of the late lawmakers to take his death with equanimity, noting that Makinde left an indelible mark in the minds of the people and in the state within his short sojourn on earth. Aregbesola said, “Though it is very painful to lose somebody like Hon. Oladejo at that youthful age, one clear lesson is the transient nature of life itself; it is not about Makinde Oladejo, but about the fact that death is a certainty that must come to every living being. “It is my fervent prayer that God will grant him eternal home at the bosom of Jesus Christ and give the people of Ife Central the fortitude to bear the loss. We also pray God to comfort his family and give them courage and hope.”

The PDP in a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, commiserated with the family of the deceased, the Speaker of the House of Assembly and other lawmakers. The party said, “A scholar of note, Makinde, was strict but humane; brave but with manners; a democrat of purest quality and one of the few reminders of politicians with true love of people.

“His records as local government chairman and state lawmaker have remained permanently etched on the minds of people.” Also, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad, has described Makinde’s death as shocking and a colossal loss to the people of Osun State and the political class in general. Ahmad, in a statement on Monday by his Special Assistant on Media, Shuaib Abdulkadir, said the legislator who represented Ife Central Constituency was a parliamentarian per excellence whose robust contributions at the floor of the House would be missed his by colleagues.

Politics / Why Fuel Subsidy Must Go – APC by slimgold123(f): 7:08pm On Dec 22, 2015
The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun on Tuesday said the eventual removal of fuel subsidy is inevitable.

According to him, the gradual removal of subsidy is necessary in view of emerging and current realities. Odigie-Oyegun said this when he received a delegation of the APC National Coalition for Peace and Mobilization which paid him a courtesy at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

He explained that the current administration inherited an “infected system of subsidy” run by corrupt cartels. In one way or the other, subsidy must go.”

He noted that a situation where government spends almost a trillion Naira yearly on the corruption-tainted subsidy regime is unacceptable and can no longer be sustained.

The APC Chairman said oil cartels and their cronies resisting change have continued to blackmail and sabotage government on the issue of subsidy, a development that has resulted in the lingering nationwide fuel scarcities despite serious government efforts.

He described the perennial fuel scarcity the nation grapples with as a “national disgrace”. Odigie-Oyegun expressed the need to restructure the country’s oil and gas sector which he said has been marred by corruption and inefficiencies. He said President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency to adjust its pricing template to reflect competitive and market driven components may not necessarily result in increase in the pump price of petrol.

The National Chairman said the presidential directive to the PPPRA will result in a more efficient and realistic pricing system for petroleum products and also result in constant availability of fuel. Earlier, the National President of NACOPEAM, Mr. Ahmed Saleh said the fuel scarcity is impacting negatively on the party’s image.

He said, “The unbearable fuel queues along filling stations is indeed avoidable. The situation is impacting negatively on the integrity of the party and this noble administration of positive change.”

He equally called for the “total overhauling” of heads of federal government Commissions, Parastatals and Agencies. Saleh also said, “During electioneering campaign, the APC went around the lenght and breath of Nigeria informing the citizen on the ills and mal-administration of the past regime.

“However, there is need for total overhauling and new trusted heads of commissions, paratatals and agencies to be appointed for effective, efficient and result oriented service to the Nigerian citizens. With this our noble observation, we believe the nation will move forward and the government will be free from administrative sabotage.”

Politics / Buhari Is Committed To Niger Delta Development – NDDC by slimgold123(f): 2:06pm On Dec 22, 2015

The newly appointed Acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, says President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to proper repositioning of the Niger Delta region.

Semenitari spoke with newsmen on arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Tuesday.
She said that President Buhari had charged the new appointees to clean-up the commission so as to be able to serve the people of the region effectively.

Semenitari, however, said that her appointment was a confirmation of President Buhari’s commitment to active women participation in his government.

“My appointment is in keeping with President Buhari’s commitment to ensure that the Niger Delta is properly positioned and adequately taken care off.

“It is also in keeping with the President’s commitment to guarantee women’s participation in his government, but beyond that, it is a call to service. “I have insisted all through my life that the Niger Delta deserves better and this is a chance to prove that the region will be all that God plans it to be.

”She pledged to keep to the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to develop the region. Semenitari described the high number of women who thronged the airport to receive her as ”overwhelming and women support for women”.

“I have always said that women lift women; my bosses all through my career, who have made me progress the most, have been women,” she said.

Technology Market / MTN Sues NCC To Court Over $3.9bn Fine -PUNCH by slimgold123(f): 7:42am On Dec 22, 2015

Telecommunications company, MTN Nigeria Limited, has gone before a Federal High Court in Lagos to challenge the $3.9bn imposed on it by the Nigeria Communications Commission for failure to disconnect its unregistered subscribers.

The company, which filed the suit through its legal team comprising Chief Wole Olanipekun, Tanimola Molajo, A.B. Mahmoud, Dr. Gbolahan Elias, Oladipo Okpeseyi, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu and Dr. Oladapo Olanipekun, all Senior Advocates of Nigeria, is urging the court to quash the $3.9bn imposed on it.

Joined as a co-defendant with NCC is the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN).

Among other things, the plaintiff is urging the court to determine whether NCC can act pursuant to Section 70 of the NCC Act to impose a fine on it in view of the provisions of sections 1 (3), 4 and 6 of the 1999 Constitution.

It argued that by imposing a fine on it, the commission was already usurping “the exclusive legislative powers of the National Assembly, as well as the judicial powers of the courts established under the constitution.

” The plaintiff claimed that it was not afforded its constitutional right of fair hearing before a court of competent jurisdiction and insisted that it had not been found guilty of any offence to warrant the fine of $3.9bn imposed on it.
