At this point I decided not to tell him I applied

Cos he would have told me to forget it.

this is my first of hearing the word "BVN certificate "how do I get mine?

U can get that from your bank..u give them your BVN number and they will verify it with your thumb print and give u a printed paper that contains your picture,date of birth and and your full names
