What is Islam?: The Origins of Islam But where does the message of Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, fit in with the previous messages revealed by God? A brief history of the prophets might clear this point. The first human, Adam, followed Islam, in that he directed worship to God alone and none else and abided by His commandments. But through the passage of time and the dispersal of humanity throughout the earth, people strayed from this message and began directing worship to others instead of or along with God. Some took to worshipping the pious who passed away amongst them, while others took to worshipping spirits and forces of nature. It was then that God started to send messengers to humanity steering them back to the worship of God Alone, which accorded to their true nature, and warning them of the grave consequences of directing any type of worship to others besides Him. The first of these messengers was Noah, who was sent to preach this message of Islam to his people, after they had started to direct worship to their pious forefathers along with God. Noah called his people to leave the worship of their idols, and ordered them to return to the worship of God Alone. Some of them followed the teachings of Noah, while the majority disbelieved in him. Those who followed Noah were followers of Islam, or Muslims, while those that did not, remained in their disbelief and were seized with a punishment for doing so. After Noah, God sent messengers to every nation who had strayed from the Truth, to steer them back to it. This Truth was the same throughout time: to reject all objects of worship and to direct all worship without exception to God and none else, the Creator and Lord of all, and to abide by His commandments. But as we mentioned before, because each nation differed in regards to their way of life, language, and culture, specific messengers were sent to specific nations for a specific time period. God sent messengers to all nations, and to the Kingdom of Babylon He sent Abraham – one of the earliest and greatest prophets – who called his people to reject the worship of the idols to which they were devoted. He called them to Islam, but they rejected him and even tried to kill him. God put Abraham through many tests, and he proved true to all of them. For his many sacrifices, God proclaimed that he would raise from amongst his progeny a great nation and choose prophets from amongst them. Whenever people from his progeny started to stray away from the Truth, which was to worship none but God alone and to obey His commandments, God sent them another messenger steering them back to it. Consequently, we see that many prophets were sent amongst the progeny of Abraham, such as his two sons Isaac and Ishmael, along with Jacob (Israel), Joseph, David, Solomon, Moses, and of course, Jesus, to mention a few, may the peace and blessings of God be upon them all. Each prophet was sent to the Children of Israel (the Jews) when they went astray from the true religion of God, and it became obligatory upon them to follow the messenger which was sent to them and obey their commandments. All of the messengers came with the same message, to reject worship of all other beings except God Alone and to obey His commandments. Some disbelieved in the prophets, while others believed. Those that believed were followers of Islam, or Muslims. From amongst the messengers was Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, from the progeny of Ishmael, the son of Abraham, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, who was sent as a messenger in succession to Jesus. Muhammad preached the same message of Islam as the previous prophets and messengers – to direct all worship to God Alone and none else and to obey His commandments – in which the followers of the previous prophets went astray. So as we see, the Prophet Muhammad was not the founder of a new religion, as many people mistak |
What is Islam?: The Core of Islam Among the blessings and favors that God has bestowed upon humanity is that He endowed them with an innate ability to recognize and acknowledge His existence. He placed this awareness deep in their hearts as a natural disposition that has not changed since human beings were first created. Furthermore, He reinforced this natural disposition with the signs that he placed in Creation that testify to His existence. However, since it is not possible for human beings to have a detailed knowledge of God except through revelation from Himself, God sent His Messengers to teach the people about their Creator Who they must worship. These Messengers also brought with them the details of how to worship God, because such details cannot be known except by way of revelation. These two fundamentals were the most important things that the Messengers of all the divine revelations brought with them from God. On this basis, all the divine revelations have had the same lofty objectives, which are: 1. To affirm the Oneness of God - the praised and glorified Creator – in His essence and His attributes. 2. To affirm that God alone should be worshipped and that no other being should be worshipped along with Him or instead of Him. 3. To safeguard human welfare and oppose corruption and evil. Thus, everything that safeguards faith, life, reason, wealth and lineage are part of this human welfare that religion protects. On the other hand, anything that endangers these five universal needs is a form of corruption that religion opposes and prohibits. 4. To invite the people to the highest level of virtue, moral values, and noble customs. The ultimate goal of every Divine Message has always been the same: to guide the people to God, to make them aware of Him, and to have them worship Him alone. Each Divine Message came to strengthen this meaning, and the following words were repeated on the tongues of all the Messengers: “Worship God, you have no god other than Him.” This message was conveyed to humanity by prophets and messengers which God sent to every nation. All of these messengers came with this same message, the message of Islam. All the Divine Messages came to bring the life of the people into willing submission to God. For this reason, they all share the name of “Islam”, or “submission” derived from the same word as “Salam”, or “peace”, in Arabic. Islam, in this sense, was the religion of all the prophets, but why does one see different variations of the religion of God if they all emanated from the same source? The answer is twofold. The first reason is that as a result of the passage of time, and due to the fact that previous religions were not under the Divine protection of God, they underwent much change and variation. As a result, we see that the fundamental truths which were brought by all messengers now differ from one religion to another, the most apparent being the strict tenet of the belief and worship of God and God alone. The second reason for this variation is that God, in His infinite Wisdom and eternal Will, decreed that all the divine missions prior to the final message of Islam brought by Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, be limited to a specific time frame. As a result, their laws and methodologies dealt with the specific conditions of the people whom they had been sent to address. Humanity has passed through numerous periods of guidance, misguidance, integrity, and deviation, from the most primitive age to the heights of civilization. Divine guidance accompanied humanity through all of this, always providing the appropriate solutions and remedies. This was the essence of the disparity that existed between the different religions. This disagreement never went beyond the particulars of the Divine Law. Each manifestation of the Law addressed the particular problems of the people it was meant for. However, the areas of agreement were significant and many, such as fundamentals of faith; the basic principles and objectives of the Divine Law, such as protecting faith, life, reason, wealth, and lineage and establishing justice in the land; and certain fundamental prohibitions, some of the most important of these being idolatry, fornication, murder, theft, and giving false witness. Moreover, they also agreed upon moral virtues like honesty, justice, charity, kindness, chastity, righteousness, and mercy. These principles as well as others are permanent and lasting; they are the essence of all the Divine Messages and bind them all together. |
#Lecture for The last Friday of Ramadan. Why Islam? Let’s talk frankly. Almost never do non-Muslims study Islam until they have first exhausted the religions of their exposure. Only after they have grown dissatisfied with the religions familiar to them, meaning Judaism, Christianity and all the fashionable “-isms”—Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism (and, as my young daughter once added, “tourism”)—do they consider Islam. Perhaps other religions do not answer the big questions of life, such as “Who made us?” and “Why are we here?” Perhaps other religions do not reconcile the injustices of life with a fair and just Creator. Perhaps we find hypocrisy in the clergy, untenable tenets of faith in the canon, or corruption in the scripture. Whatever the reason, we perceive shortcomings in the religions of our exposure, and look elsewhere. And the ultimate “elsewhere” is Islam. Now, Muslims would not like to hear me say that Islam is the “ultimate elsewhere.” But it is. Despite the fact that Muslims comprise one-fourth to one-fifth of the world’s population, non-Muslim media smears Islam with such horrible slanders that few non-Muslims view the religion in a positive light. Hence, it is normally the last religion seekers investigate. Another problem is that by the time non-Muslims examine Islam, other religions have typically heightened their skepticism: If every “God-given” scripture we have ever seen is corrupt, how can the Islamic scripture be different? If charlatans have manipulated religions to suit their desires, how can we imagine the same not to have happened with Islam? The answer can be given in a few lines, but takes books to explain. The short answer is this: There is a God. He is fair and just, and He wants us to achieve the reward of paradise. However, God has placed us in this worldly life as a test, to weed out the worthy from the unworthy. And we will be lost if left to our own devices. Why? Because we don’t know what He wants from us. We can’t navigate the twists and turns of this life without His guidance, and hence, He has given us guidance in the form of revelation. Sure, previous religions have been corrupted, and that is one of the reasons why we have a chain of revelation. Ask yourself: wouldn’t God send another revelation if the preceding scriptures were impure? If preceding scriptures were corrupted, humans would need another revelation, to keep upon the straight path of His design. So we should expect preceding scriptures to be corrupted, and we should expect the final revelation to be pure and unadulterated, for we cannot imagine a loving God leaving us astray. What we can imagine is God giving us a scripture, and men corrupting it; God giving us another scripture, and men corrupting it again … and again, and again. Until God sends a final revelation He promises to preserve until the end of time. Muslims consider this final revelation to be the Holy Quran. You consider it … worth looking into. So let us return to the title of this article: Why Islam? Why should we believe that Islam is the religion of truth, the religion that possesses the pure and final revelation? “Oh, just trust me.” Now, how many times have you heard that line? A famous comedian used to joke that people of different cities cuss one another out in different ways. In Chicago, they cuss a person out this way, in Los Angeles they cuss a person out that way, but in New York they just say, “Trust me.” So don’t trust me—trust our Creator. Read the Quran, read books and study good websites. But whatever you do, get started, take it seriously, and pray for our Creator to guide you. Your life may not depend on it, but your soul most definitely does. |

Well since we all want to proof things without scriptures here's my theory: N.B:To continue Pls you have to read with an emotion free mind so as not to cloud your judgement.Lego 1. God's existence? My theory is that God really does exists, why ? Let's say I develop a robot for example, such robot will only know what I programmed into it. If it is programmed in such a way that it can only serve tea it will never do more than that.A robot can never do more than it has been designed to do. It can never be intelligent than its creator,if a robot can floor a person with the highest IQ,its all thanks to its creator my people! Compare this to humanity we just gained consciousness one day and be like how did we get here verily we must have originated from this and that.we take solace in what's around us.Apes and the likes.People all that God crcreated isn't perfect.Trust me it is,dont you see the needy Nd feel like What if that was me, a sight of glorification, atheist be like their genes caused that,it can never be me.What if it was his would you know? God knows about this as well in the real world. Are we for his pleasure?Nah,he sent the scriptures as guidance,we all know time can change but it's quite difficult.seems am writing nonsense. To all the atheist here I challenge you to bring your deepest and thickest questions about GOD and we look at it together. I just read blackfire post And I have two things for everyone reading this :
|
@blackfire,and in which Hadeeth did you read that the prophet impose on the non fasting people. In an authentic tradition, Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)is reported to have said: “Whenever you see a funeral procession, stand up till the procession goes ahead of you”. [1] One day a funeral procession passed in front of him and he stood up. When he was told that it was the coffin of a Jew, he said, "Is it not a living being (soul)?" Also, Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) used to visit non-Muslims who were sick. Hence, the Prophet (Peace be upon him)visited Abu Talib in his sickness, and he also visited a sick Jewish boy. [2] Pls and Pls Don't be a fanatic,Nigeria is not meant for one religion Kano inclusive,Do you know about Jedda ? That's were majority of non Muslim's reside in Saudi Arabia. Even though they do not parade themselves as such in pubic but it's their safe haven. The media as done ENOUGH. |
Senate president Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekwerenmadu have been charged with alleged forgery of the Senate rules to pave the way for their 2015 election. They both deny any wrong doing. The forgery suit was filed by the federal government against the Senate president, his deputy and other clerical staff of the National Assembly, at the Federal High Court, Abuja on June 10, 2016. In the suit, Saraki, Ekweremadu and others allegedly “caused the Standing Order to be believed as the genuine Standing Orders, 2015 and circulated same for use during the inauguration of the 8th Senate of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 364 of the Penal Code Law”. However, the Senate, on Sunday, June 19, described the trial of the principal officers of the House as a strong attempt to cripple the legislative arm of government. The spokesperson for the Senate, Senator Sabi Abdullahi in a statement on Sunday, June 19, alleged that some senior officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were seeking to use the courts to obtain what they failed to get during the Senate leadership election. Following the weighty allegations by the Senate that some members of the APC are behind the move to try Saraki and Ekeweramadu. Naij.com highlights 5 reasons why aggrieved APC members may want Saraki sacked. 1. NASS coup Some political titans in the APC are yet to forgive Senator Bukola Saraki for flouting the party’s directives when he emerged as Senate president without his party’s approval. Saraki, a former governor of Kwara state, was elected as president of the eighth Senate after defeating his party’s preferred candidate, Ahmed Lawan. He was nominated by Sani Yerima and seconded by Dino Melaye and was elected unanimously by 57 senators present at the session. The remaining 51 senators were at the International Conference Centre waiting for a truce meeting reportedly called by the leadership of the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari. Saraki’s emergence as Senate president was ascribed to power sharing deal he allegedly brokered with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which saw the immediate past deputy of the 7th Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, emerge as deputy of to Saraki. Apparently angered by Saraki’s conduct the APC described Saraki’s ‘coup’ as unacceptable, an act of treachery and the highest level of indiscipline. APC had picked Ahmad Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila for the post of Senate president and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively, but the opposition of the PDP endorsed Saraki and Dogara who went on to win. Though Yakubu Dogara emergence as Speaker of the House of Representatives was opposed by the APC, Dogara however won the support of his party when he adhered to the list submitted by the APC in the appointment of principal officers of the House, However Saraki’s refusal to compromise set him at edge with some influential APC politicians. 2. Allegiance to the PDP During the election of principal officers in the Senate, Bukola Saraki refused to adhere to the list submitted to him by his party, while Dogara kept faith with the party’s list, Saraki’s allies in the Senate named different persons, whose names were announced on the floor of the Senate in. After failing to adhere to the party’s list Sarki said his hands were tied, adding that the party’s list arrived late. This excuse by Saraki further angered some in his party who saw him as an ally to the opposition. 3. Alleged presidential ambition It has been alleged in some quarters that Bukola Saraki, is nursing an ambition to run for presidency in 2019, though Saraki has dismissed this claims on the grounds that he dropped his presidential bid in the 2015 election for President Muhammadu Buhari and also contributed immensely to his victory in the presidential election held on March 28, 2015, some APC bigwigs are not convinced. Party members with interest in maintaining a tight grip on the party see Saraki as a threat due to his close ties to the PDP. 4. The controversy surrounding the 2016 budget One of the highlights of President Buhari’s one year in office was the 2016 budget which was marred in controversy, after Nigerians had waited endlessly for the Budget to be submitted to the National Assembly, Nigerians were shocked when the presidency alleged that unauthorised figures has been smuggled into the budget proposals. Though the presidency officials blamed most of the errors in the budget on “over-ambitious civil servants” in the budget office who handled the preparation of the document prior to the appointment of ministers, some party members suspected a foul play from the leaders of the Senate which Saraki heads. The controversy which surrounded the 2016 budget was interpreted by some party faithfuls as a ploy by the leadership of the Senate to bring the administration of Buhari to ridicule, making Saraki an enemy of those behind such narrative. 5. Alleged corruption No sooner had Bukola Saraki assumed the leadership of the Senate than the Code of Conduct Bureau slammed a 13-count charge of corruption on the president of the Nigerian Senate. According to the charges the Senate president is accused of failing to declare some assets he acquired during his tenure as governor. Among other offences, Saraki is alleged to have acquired assets beyond his legitimate earnings, and is also accused of operating foreign accounts while being a public officer – governor and senator. The offences, the charge said, violated sections of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended. Following his trial at the CCT, several groups called Saraki to step aside as Senate president until he is cleared of all charges against him. However, Saraki’s supporters have condemned his ongoing trial at the CCT, stressing that Saraki was being persecuted through the tribunal due to his emergence as the Senate president. As if he’s battle for political survival over false asset declaration was not enough, Saraki’s image was further tainted the by the Panama Papers, a trove of documents hacked from Panama legal firm, Mossack Fonseca, showing many world political leaders and their allies, business leaders, professionals, hiding cash and assets in a labyrinth of offshore companies and banks, to escape the probing eyes of tax authorities. According to Premium times, James Ibori, Saraki’s brother Laolu, his associate Obi Asika were all mentioned in the documents, just like the late father of British Prime Minister David Cameron, friends and allies of Russian President, Vladimir Putin. There were also links to South African President Jacob Zuma, soccer star Lionel Messi and Addo Kuffour, son of former Ghanian President John Kuffuor. The panama leaks have added to the calls for Saraki to step down as Senate president on the grounds that he lacks the moral stand to occupy that hallow position. These are some of the reasons Saraki is marked down by his political foes. Do you think Bukola Saraki will survive this battle?
