PoliticsRe: Video Of OAU Students Protest Against President Jonathan Emerges by Sodiq3(m):
You cannot carve a good image out of a rotten wood. No matter what the PDP say or do, jonathan is already a rotten wood and no amount of PR stunt can give him a good image. Anything that is bad is bad. Reputation takes a long time to build but takes second to fall like pack of cards. Jonathan's reputation in front of educated and well- trained Nigerians like my brothers at great ife has not only drop, but also buried in the grave. CLUELESS JONATHAN MUST GO is the watch phrase come 2015.

Linda!! This is another problem we have with Nigerian bloggers. i don't think you have to read journalism or Mass communication to know that something like 'law of defamation' exists. What she did is punishable by law because she invaded in his privacy.

EducationRe: Association Of Masscomm Student'unilorin' by Sodiq3(m):
Welcome to the field.

Mass communication.hmmm!!! First of all, you have to throw aside the illusion that the course is about Being a news presenter or a reporter of one newspaper. No, Mass communication is more broader than that, journalism is just a branch of its. The course entails public relations, advertising, film production, script writing, acting and all other professions that deal with communication.

In your first year, you will do mostly introductory courses like intro to mass comm, history of mass media, writing for mass, african comm system and some others. Your second year will be about principles i.e principles of advertising, public relations, development journalism, broadcast and also, theories of communication and others.

Third and fourth year entail going more deep into the course. You will be exposed to real life issues in mass media, advanced topics in PR, advert, broadcasting etc. You may be taken to studio at the second year but proper studio management starts from Third year.

At least, by the time you get to 300level, you should be tagged communication engineer, guru or expert because you would have gained indepth knowledge of the field of study. However, what i noticed about the course is that, you need to be very creative, i mean creativity speaks alot in mass communication. Both in reading and answering exam questions, creativity also matter. You also have to be good in cramming, but try to understand what you are reading. Both go hand in hand.

Last bullet: You can never, i mean NEVER, practice Mass Communication.

Download materials from here http://www.nou.edu.ng/NOUN_OCL/courses.htm .. mass comm courses start with MAC. Wish you a nice stay in the university.

OmoEniafelamo:
As a journalist, I've tried my best to correct my colleagues that some of the expressions the OP pointed out do not befit a mainstream journalist but they'll never heed. Sometimes I'll write a correct sentence and my editor will reconstruct it to an incorrect one. Whenever I point it out to him he would apologise, but that's after the story has already been published, and since I get the byline, I get the insult.
well done bro, got one or two questions to ask you. Sent you a PM already.

the one I hate most is the over used words "insurgency and insurgent" to refer to boko haram. another is "feared dead" example :Two feared dead at the last insurgent attack. over use of words make news stay stale
lol. i tell U. So annoying. Others like-Impeccable source, or a source who pleaded anonymity. Though, one of the principles of journalism is CONFIDENTIALITY but our reporters are over doing it. In order to give your story CREDIBILITY, beg your source for PUBLICITY. Or just let the story and act like someone who put into importance, the spirit of OBJECTIVITY..., ×shikena× .
EducationRe: 10 Most Annoying Nigerian Media English Expressions. by Sodiq3(m): 10:13am On Nov 26, 2014
This is what you should expect when most of our reporters and editors are SSCE holders or graduates of other fields. How many of them read Journalism? most of them by chance found themselves reporting for a medium, They don't really have passion for the profession which would definitely make learning difficult for them.

Thanks so much Op. As an upcoming journalist, I will with all energy available take into cognizance the pointed mistakes and corrections.

Am i the only one that believe the Stimulus-Response Theory A.K.A Magic bullet theory is still much alive especially in a state of emergency like this?. News of Salt and water as a preventive measure against ebola circulating across social media platforms triggered immediate response from people and they became powerless, defenseless, passive to resist the message. It had instant effect on people as everybody is seen calling and texting their love ones about the Newly discovered Africa Ebola Preventive Measure.

For it to be more effective, You can add pepper, maggi, thym and curry. Nigeria is a joke.
