Politics / Re: FG To Use Islamic Bond To Build Airports, Refineries by soladisc: 2:11pm On Nov 07, 2013
lovat: There is no diffrence betwwen Islamic loans and other conventional loans. In the normal bank loans interest is stated while in Islamic loan interest is added up with the principal. For example if u want to make a high purchase of a goods worth #30000 in normal banking the goods will be sold with let's say a 10% interest which makes it #33000 while in Islamic banking the cost of the goods for high purchase will go outrightly for #33000. It ll now be spread over to seem as if there is no interest attached to it.

Please be guided! There are lots of differences between Islamic loans and conventional loans. Few of these I'll try to share with you.

1. Islamic finance is based based on profit and loss sharing while conventional loan does not care whether you make a loss let alone share it with you.
2. You cannot obtain Islamic loan and invest in Haram-e.g Alcohol, Cigarette, Beer e.t.c but you can obtain conventional loan and invest in anything e.g Alcohol, Cigarette provided the law allows it. I'm sure BATN, Breweries has loans with one or more Nigerian banks.
3. In conventional banking early payment means you avoid payment of interest that will be due in future, thereby reducing interest income to the bank, whereas in Islamic finance the profit from the venture will be shared based on an agreed percentage whether the loan is repaid the following day it was taken or after a year.

Information! http://www.economist.com/blogs/schumpeter/2013/11/islamic-finance?fsrc=scn/tw/te/bl/ameccaforsukuk

David Cameron, the British prime minister, has announced plans to issue sovereign Islamic bonds as early as next year. http://econ.st/1hDBQUF

This is a growing trend the world over and has nothing to do with religion. This is how Sukuk (Islamic Bond) works. The subscribers to the bond are the owners of the asset until the issuer(Government-State or Federal) fully redeem the bond, whereas the bondholder will be paid returns from the income generated from the asset. This is clearly different from the conventional bond where the issuer is the owner of the asset.

This is the kind of system that is appropriate for a country like Nigeria where a governor can raise bond and embezzle the funds or use it for political reasons. Please be guided.
Politics / Re: Arunma Oteh - SEC DG Sent On Compulsory Leave by soladisc: 10:17am On Jun 12, 2012
This country is something else, simply because this Woman refused to allow corruption in SEC they have to remove her. She refused them to bring in candidate for the recently conducted recruitment, she insisted that promotion should be based on competence and qualification, they refused. The problem in this country is followership not leadership. Someone should please answer this question.

If it is true that election were rigged in this country, who rigged it? Is it Jonathan or Tinubu or Babangida Aliyu that rigged it or the so called stupid followers who snatch ballot boxes or re-write election figures for these people. Until we open our eyes to reality, this country will not move forward.

Really? Is it the commissions' business to provide accommodation for her for 8 months? The access bank guys- was she right to have engaged them? What is wrong is wrong whether they demanded bribe or not.

@dustydee

The accessbank guys are on secondment to SEC and not on SEC payroll, and that why they refer to them as ACCESSBANK STAFFS not SEC staffs, secondly since there is nothing wrong with the honourable demanding bribe from her as you have stated , what moral justification do they have to probe her? Please be guided

NAIRALANDERS PLS BE GUIDED!

1. The access bank staff are on secondmment to SEC, they are not on SEC payroll but access bank payroll, confirm your facts. The secondment is just to bring expertise to the org where needed.
2. Her employment letter states that she is entitled to four official cars, she read it out to the house and nobody faulted or deny that fact.@fesse please be guided
3. She was staying in a hotel when the commission could not provide her with accommodation when she resumed.
4. Nobody paid for any rent for the DG, she requested that the commission pay for her rent IN LIEU of her housing allowances as stated in her offer letter, but the idea was dropped because of conflict with the monetization directive by the FG. Please note that the rent has not been paid. They are only quoting the price of the rent which is N62m for 2yrs. Nobody ever say the money has been paid, evidence of payment should be provided
People should get thaere fact right b4 commenting on issues so that those reading would be rightly guided.

andyanders: How can the law makers stoop so low to demand just mare N 5million Naira. I think she is not telling the truth. Let her answer the questions here. We have more competent Nigerians to handle her position. You cannot just draw someone from abroad and give her the position because she worked with ADN.

Yes they demanded for 5million to help augment the cost of organising the public hearing. Are u surprised? please dont be this is Nigeria. I was surprised the committee chair continually refers to the head of Human resources as HEAD OF HUMAN RIGHT and HEAD OF HUMAN RELATIONS more than four times despite being corrrected severally yesterday and today. Well, i'm not surprised he is still battling with the fact that his younger brother applied for SEC job recently but was not selected even after lobbying, so the need to discredit the SEC DG

The committee chair should defend the allegation against him. she did not collect the money being accused her of, the hotel bills were bieng paid for when the commission could not provide her with accommodation when she resumed as DG. These expenses (excluding the ones fabricated by the committee chair)was not approved by her but the commissioners. Its common knowledge that to scale through a house invitation/hearing/probe you must pay your way through, a practise she refuse to succumb to.

SEC DG, the enemies are within, next time watch your back!
Politics / Re: SEC Boss, Arunma Oteh, Spent N850,000 On Food In A Day - Reps by soladisc: 8:04pm On Mar 15, 2012
I heard it from good source that;

1. The House committee chairman was paid some overseas training expenses on capital market last year, he collected the money for the training but never attended.

2. The committee chairman demanded for some money before the commencement of the hearing but the DG refused

3. The younger brother to the committee chair participated in a rencently conducted recruitment exercise by SEC but was not successful (probably even after lobbying, no wonder the committee chair was insisting on recruitment issue)

4. The allegations were sponsored by some top management staffs of the organisation

The director of the Capital market institute claimed that the DG has not been supporting the institute, but when asked in what areas he needs support, he said he wants to be training SEC staffs on capital mkt development, issues etc. I was shocked when he was asked " WHAT IS YOUR STAFF STRENGHT" he said 6 including his driver!

I was surprised when the DG raised the issue of bribery against by the commission chair and question his credibility to chair the committee, he brushed the issue aside but he could accuse her of financial impropriety

as for me I can see that the commission chair is not so much interested in the topic of the hearing which is the state of the capital market & solution to the current capital mkt problem but on a personal vendetta. The DG was not also allowed to answer most of allegations against her. Even if someone thinks or know she has committed any offence it is only fair that she should be allowed to defend herself. We will see to the end of this episode as we wiil keep in touch when the house resumes the hearing on Tuesday.
Politics / Re: Tinubu Worse Than Abacha And IBB – Obanikoro by soladisc: 4:45pm On Oct 30, 2011
After serving as a commissioner under Tinubu and also winning as a senator under AD, now an ambassador under PDP, he wants to hand over to his son. He is a stupid man. He thinks we will forget his burning of City Hall after looting the office as chairman. They are all the same
Sports / Re: Keshi And Oliseh To Replace Siasia by soladisc: 12:53pm On Oct 27, 2011
I still believe in SiaSia. All he need now is how to manage players sentiments and emotions and as much as possble control his pride. Oliseh has 2 yrs experience in coaching and he wants Eagles job! what has he achieved with the 2yrs experience? The other time he said he wants to be technical director @ NFF but now he wants to coach, so he wants anything that goes, probabaly because he is jobless and not competence.

I respect and like Keshi, but i still prefer SiaOne

My wife is not a university graduate like me but i always thank God for giving her to me. We are the best example of couples around. Meanwhile a man/woman is educated if he/she know how to get thing done, not necessarilly knowing how to do it his or herself. Dont make that mistake my brother. Wish you best of luck.

I'm not sure the person knew what i'm talking about becos i'm not convinced. Any info from any body?
