let me chip these in,i love the guy that started this thread, the issues he raised is damn right, let's be truthful for once. But he might not have been necessary to have a list of some religious bodies. Whatever the case check yourself and make sure your believe is not based on my pastor said this and that our daddy said our Daddy cannot be wrong. May we continue to enlighten these folks through whatever methods possible, at least you will not say you never heard. |
iconic_s: @Bernimoore meant no insult, just a candid observation. The tithe is paid not just given. What are you saying now, let the bible speak for itself, no need of hasty generalization. Where does the bible say Abraham gave tithes based on revelation. Revelation from whom? Answer please with the bible |
iconic_s: @Goshen "It is Priest that receives tithe FROM THE LEVITES in the OT". You sure are getting funnier. The priest were levites; ever heard the term levitical priesthood?Very good answer"Tithes were given before the LAW",Abraham and Jacob gave a tenth not based on any law to do so, both were merely instances of voluntarily giving one tenth not compulsory Now later, the Law made it mandatory and kind of established the giving of the tenth.(Le 25:1-12) When christ came, Christ our greater Abraham, put an end to the mosaic law, that is why all things associated with the law was done away with, like offering burnt sacrifices, city of refuges, e.t.c Today, they might serve as guides, but no rigid rules, again not rigid set of rules |
LOL |
paid and gave are not the same oh Yoruba version Sisan ati fifun yato gan an ni. Hausa coming soon. At least, you need to understand this. |
@ 123image, @bernimoore, @am i getting something wrong here? If Abraham gave or paid a tenth of the Spoils, does this imply in anyway that it was a law? Simple question, i need simple answer from the bible |
please remember that abraham was not given any law to pay a tithe |
pd piper pippen: Dear friend, I wld refer u to, malachi 3:8, and matt23:23, we are children of abraham and our father abraham tithed, we are instructed by the word of God to walk in footsteps of our father, rmbr God introduced faith to us tru abraham, and as his children we are commanded to live by faith just as our dad abraham. Before the law covenant, there was no established law to pay the tithe, if there was, how could Jacob vow at Bethel to give one tenth of his substance to God.—Ge 28:20-22. My point is, it does not may any sense to vow to pay something that has already being established or where do you find that in the bible. Even if Abraham were given the law, who is our father in faith? Abraham or Jesus? thats where you get it all wrong and moduled up together. |
otito lo ma gbeke iro. As shown above, giving voluntarily superceeds the tenth in everyway. Many sold possessions for the the needy, they gave more than a tenth part. It was that for of giving that made annanias and saphira to sell their land but they lied.eya.The Law convenant has been done away with, now is time for the new covenant through christ Jesus our Lord with does not involve being govern by a set rule of laws or codes. |
please read the above carefully and search the scriptures diligently, it is of no importance to twist the scriptures to fit what we think is true or should be true, this matter under discussion is black and white. Remember Rev 22:18 If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in these scroll.... |
pd piper pippen: Young man if u really understand pre tithe issues then this whole thread wld be uneccesary, I wrote in response to the issue of tithe posted on front page, plsss tithe ws nt originated by the old testament law, and therefore the abolishment of d old testament does nt affect tithes, the principles of tithe we follow today are such as enunciated by abraham and nt the old testament law, I shudder to watch as the collective ignaorance of both you and ur supporters frog leap on rampage. Pls u guys shld all shut up, go anf learn more, u are all ignoramuses! Sori! No offence meant!A tenth part, or 10 percent, given or paid as a tribute, especially for religious purposes. The Bible tells of two instances prior to the setting up of the Law covenant in which a tenth part of possessions was paid to God or to his representative. The first of these was on the occasion when Abraham gave Melchizedek one tenth of the spoils of his victory over Chedorlaomer and his allies. (Ge 14:18-20) The apostle Paul cites this incident as proof that Christ’s priesthood according to the manner of Melchizedek is superior to that of Levi, since Levi, being in the loins of Abraham, paid tithes, in effect, to Melchizedek. (Heb 7:4-10) The second case concerned Jacob, who vowed at Bethel to give one tenth of his substance to God.—Ge 28:20-22. These two accounts, however, are merely instances of voluntarily giving one tenth. There is no record to the effect that Abraham or Jacob commanded their descendants to follow such examples, thereby establishing a religious practice, custom, or law. It would have been superfluous for Jacob, if already under a compulsory obligation to pay tithes, to vow to do so, as he did. It is therefore evident that the tithing arrangement was not a custom or a law among the early Hebrews. It was instituted with the inauguration of the Law covenant, not before. |
FELA SAID IT ALL, POPE NA ENJOYMENT, IMAM NA GBALADUN,PASTORS HOUSE NA HIM FINE PASS........ |
WHO SAID THE TITHES ARE NOT FORCED ON PEOPLE. LET ME GIVE YOU FACTS,IF YOU LIKE, TURN A BLIND EYE TO IT: IN SOME CHURCHES, THEY HAVE A REGISTER FOR TITHE PAYMENT WHEN YOU DIE, THEY WILL CALCULATE ALL THE SO-TITHE DEBTS OF THE DECEASED AND REQUEST FOR ITS PAYMENT BEFORE THEY DO BURIAL PROGRAM OR ELSE NOTIN GO HAPPEN IF YOU WORK FOR SOME RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION(THEIR SO-CALLED BUSINESS UNIVERSITIES..)ONE-TENTH OF YOUR SALARY IS DEDUCTED UP-FRONT THEY EVEN MAKE SUGGESTIVE STATEMENTS LIKE: IF YOU DON'T PAY YOUR TITHE, IT WOULD BE TIGHT FOR YOU RAISE YOUR OFFERING UP(WHEN YOU LOOK BESIDE AND SEE N500,SHE YOU NO GO DROP N20 AND BRING SOMETHING HIGHER?) HAVE YOUR CHURCH EVER READ THE CHURCH ACCOUNT? CAN AN AVERAGE WORKER AFFORD A PRIVATE JET? OR EVEN THE LATEST BRAND NEW CARS? YET THE CHURCHES ARE FILLED WITH POOR ONES THAT THEY DO NOT HELP. NOW QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK YOURSELVES: WHAT HAPPENED TO VOLUNTARY DONATIONS AS DONE BY THE FIRST CENTURY CHRISTIANS? IF ONE OF THE GREATEST APOSTLE(PAUL)COULD DO WORK WITH HIS HANDS TO ASSISTS HIMSELF WRITE 13 SCRIPTURES, ABA THESE PEOPLE THEY REALLY FOOL UNA OH OWO ALATA, OWO ONIYO |
IMAGINE THE GREEDINESS, SOME SO CALLED PASTORS WILL SAY: ,, |
[b. |
At no time were first-century Christians commanded to pay tithes. The primary purpose of the tithing arrangement under the Law had been to support Israel’s temple and priesthood; consequently the obligation to pay tithes would cease when that Mosaic Law covenant came to an end as fulfilled, through Christ’s death. (Eph 2:15; Col 2:13, 14) It is true that Levitical priests continued serving at the temple in Jerusalem until it was destroyed in 70 C.E., but Christians from and after 33 C.E. became part of a new spiritual priesthood that was not supported by tithes.—Ro 6:14; Heb 7:12; 1Pe 2:9. NOW LET YOUR SO-CALLED PASTORS LEARN FROM THE APOSTLE, ALL OF THEM PUT TOGETHER CANNOT MATCH PAUL As Christians, they were encouraged to give support to the Christian ministry both by their own ministerial activity and by material contributions. Instead of giving fixed, specified amounts to defray the church's expenses, they were to contribute “according to what a person has,” giving “as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2Co 8:12; 9:7) They were encouraged to follow the principle: “Let the older men who preside in a fine way be reckoned worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard in speaking and teaching. For the scripture says: ‘You must not muzzle a bull when it threshes out the grain’; also: ‘The workman is worthy of his wages.’” (1Ti 5:17, 18) However, the apostle Paul set an example in seeking to avoid bringing an undue financial burden on the congregation.—Ac 18:3; 1Th 2:9. PAUL BABA WORKED EVEN WITH HIS HANDS MAKING TENTS, HE DID NOT ACCUMULATE HOUSES NEITHER DID HE BUY A PRIVATE JET NOR A UNIVERSITY |
i will give you my own summary now |
Aringon: @Whether Pastor Kun or Mr Kun or whatever, if u r against the payment of tithe , then leave and stop interpreting the bible in a wrong way to accommodate ur thoughts. If u don't want to pay then leave, thank God for the lives of people who said they will continue to pay their tithe.yeye, same contribution you use in building universities you can never afford and no concession will be given you as dividend of investment and some even own private jets, for what i ask. you tithe payers have just turned yourselves in monkey dey work baboon dey chop. |
If you support the tithe, how do you view building of Church Universities with tithe monies when even the contributors to such monies can't afford to send their wards to the university. They don't even get a discount. If you invested your money, at least you will need to get interest/dividend. For those who care to be enlightened, stop allowing the so-called Pastors to trick you with their funny anointing. |
