Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed optimism that Nigeria will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions currently occupy fourth position in their World Cup qualifying group. Eric Chelle’s men would need to take maximum points from their remaining fixtures to stand a chance of clinching the sole ticket. However, in a chat with Brila FM, the Chippa United goalkeeper stated that the team will approach each game as it comes. “It is football. Just because we are Nigeria doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed to win every game. You can see we still have a lot of chances to qualify, despite where we are on the table. “We’re going to push in our next game, take it one game at a time, and we’ll see how our next four games go.” Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/nwabali-super-eagles-can-qualify-for-2026-world-cup/

Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has disclosed that the Nerazzurri will be his last club in Europe. The 36-year-old played a key role for Inter last season as they ultimately failed in their pursuit of silverware, making 51 appearances across all competitions. Mkhitaryan’s current deal with the Italian giants is set to expire at the end of next season and he is already looking to the future. In an interview with La Reppublica, Mkhitaryan stated that last season remains the most tiring season of his football career. “After Inter I’ll stop. I don’t want to lower the level, I won’t go back to play in Armenia. And destinations like Arabia don’t interest me. “With all due respect, I love football for the game, not for the money. When I wake up, I want to train and show what I’m worth. “I said that this is the most tiring season of my life, with three competitions. “And that I don’t know how much I have left to play. I don’t rule out anything, but I know I still want to go on the pitch. I have a one-year contract with Inter, if they don’t kick me out I’ll stay (laughs). I don’t want to retire with the regret of having done it too early.” Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/mkhitaryan-inter-milan-will-be-my-last-club/

Former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has announced his retirement from professional football. Lallana’s retirement was confirmed by Liverpool in a statement on their website on Wednesday. “Lallana spent six years at Anfield after being signed from Southampton during the summer of 2014 – and he was an important figure during a period of initial progress and later success for the club,” Liverpool stated. “His maiden campaign with the Reds came under Brendan Rodgers and included 41 appearances and six goals, though Lallana’s impact grew further following the appointment of Jürgen Klopp as manager in October 2015. “Lallana’s combination of superlative work-rate, pressing nous and natural ability on the ball made him an ideal component of Klopp’s style. “After Liverpool were runners-up in both the League Cup and Europa League during Klopp’s first campaign in charge, Lallana was pivotal to the regaining of Champions League qualification in 2016-17, contributing eight goals and seven assists in the league. “Injury misfortunes would prevent the No.20 from featuring and shining so regularly in the seasons that followed, when the Reds climbed to the heights of successive European Cup final appearances in 2018 and 2019. “A first-half introduction in the defeat by Real Madrid in Kyiv the first time, Lallana was then on the bench a year later as he and his teammates lifted the trophy courtesy of a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur. Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/lallana-announces-retirement-from-professional-football/ “The 2019-20 campaign was his memorable swansong for Liverpool. It began with a UEFA Super Cup victory, included a FIFA Club World Cup triumph and ended with a Premier League winner’s medal. “Lallana featured 15 times in the top flight that term as Klopp’s men ended the club’s 30-year wait for a league title by totalling 99 points – and his personal highlight was a late equaliser at Old Trafford that ensured the Reds’ unbeaten start was maintained.”

Nigeria’s head coach to the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil, Samson Siasia, has dismissed claims by John Obi Mikel that he paid the flight tickets of the U-23 Eagles to Brazil for the games. In a recent podcast hosted by former England international Peter Crouch, Mikel had claimed that those in charge of football in Nigeria have refused to refund him the money he spent on flight for the team to the Rio Olympics. The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner explained that although the logistics were already included in the 2016 budget, top officials diverted the allocated funds meant for the team. Even though the development happened in 2016, the 2012 UEFA Champions League winner with Chelsea said he is yet to be refunded. “There is a story where you paid for everyone’s flight,” Crouch asked Mikel. The former Super Eagles captain replied: “Yeah, for the Olympics, again we talk about the corruption. There was no money to pay for the flight, for most of these players, it is their first time going for a major tournament. “So I thought, why not?, we got there and to this day, I still have not received reimbursement.” Crouch interjected; “Wait, so you got a medal and have still not been paid” Mikel said; “Nope”. But reacting to the claims Siasia in a chat with Nigerian journalist Callistus Ebare said:“Mikel Obi did not pay any flight money for Olympic Eagles from United States to Brazil for the 2016 Olympics. Nothing like that. “We only had issues with hotel bills. I think, he did pay for some of the hotel bills, but that of the flight from United States to Brazil, Mikel did not pay for that. “Delta Airline flew us because Nigerians in the United States were agitated over the issue. A friend of mine went to Delta Airline chairman and they resolved the matter. Read ALso:https://www.completesports.com/mikel-didnt-pay-for-our-flight-to-2016-rio-olympics-siasia/

Osimhen is seen by the Premier League champions as a player who can boost their attack, and they are hoping to strengthen for the upcoming campaign. Arne Slot is prepared to make a move for a new striker to join his attack next season and help Mohamed Salah share the load of goal scoring at the club after witnessing Nunez struggle. First Premier League Black Referee Rennie Dies Uriah Rennie, the Premier League’s first black referee, has died aged 65. Rennie officiated more than 300 games between 1997 and 2008, including 175 Premier League matches. “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former chair and trailblazing referee, Uriah Rennie,” said a Sheffield & Hallamshire County Football Association statement. “Uriah made history as the Premier League’s first Black referee, officiating over 300 top-flight matches between 1997 and 2008. He broke down barriers, shaped our football community and inspired generations to come.” Rennie recently revealed he was learning to walk again after a rare condition left him paralysed from the waist down. Born in Jamaica, he moved to Sheffield as a child and grew up in the Wybourn area of the city. He started refereeing in local football in 1979 before making history in 1997 when he oversaw the top-flight match between Derby County and Wimbledon. “Incredibly sad news about the passing of Uriah Rennie. A Black pioneering referee and leader in the game,” said Leon Mann, co-founder of the Football Black List. “We owe so much to those who push open the doors. Uriah should never, ever be forgotten. “Thoughts and prayers with Uriah’s family and close friends.” Rennie had been a magistrate in Sheffield since 1996 and campaigned on issues including improving equality and inclusion in sport, mental health and tackling deprivation. He had a master’s degree in business administration and law and, in November 2023, was awarded an honorary doctorate by Sheffield Hallam University for his distinguished contributions to sport and his work with South Yorkshire communities. Two people have died and hundreds have been arrested across France after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans celebrated the club’s victory in the Champions League final, according to the French interior ministry. In the south-west town of Dax, a 17-year-old boy died after being stabbed in the chest late on Saturday evening, local media reported. A 23-year-old man who was riding a scooter in central Paris was also killed after being hit by a vehicle, the prosecutor’s office said. Flares and fireworks were set off, bus shelters smashed and cars torched amid wild celebrations as PSG won the biggest prize in European club football for the first time in their history. PSG condemned the violence in a statement, adding that these “isolated acts are contrary to the club’s values and in no way represent the vast majority of our supporters”. French President Emmanuel Macron said the clashes were “unacceptable” and unjustifiable, and that those involved will be found and punished. The club’s victory parade in central Paris went ahead on Sunday afternoon despite the clashes, but with an increased police and military presence on the ground. Police set a cap of 100,000 fans for the event, which saw PSG make their way down the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe on an open-top bus. A second commemoration is currently taking place at the club’s home stadium, Parc des Princes, with thousands of fans invited to celebrate their win. France’s interior ministry said 192 people were injured in the clashes in the early hours of Sunday and 559 people arrested, including 491 in Paris. Bruno Fernandes says he will leave Manchester United this summer if the club want to cash in on him in the wake of their Europa League final defeat. It emerged earlier this month that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are prepared to break the British transfer record and pay Fernandes close to £200million over a three-year contract following talks with his representatives. United will come under more financial pressure than ever after failing to hit a £100m Champions League jackpot by beating Tottenham in the final in Bilbao on Thursday night. And even though it is highly unlikely they would consider selling their captain, Fernandes will go if the deal is in the club’s best interests. “I have always been honest,’ he said. ‘If the club thinks it’s time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it’s what it is. Football sometimes is like this. “I’ve always said I will be here until the club says to me that it’s time to go. I’m eager to do more, to be able to bring the club to the great days. “The day that the club thinks that I’m too much or it’s time to part ways, football is like this, you never know it. But I’ve always said it and I keep my word in the same way.” Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/fernandes-offers-to-leave-man-united-in-summer/

Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr runs until June 30, 2025, and there has been no word on whether either of them is ready to extend it. The Portuguese forward was left out of the squad for Al Nassr’s 9-0 win over Al Akhdoud in the Saudi Arabian Premier League, and he continues to go another trophyless season with the Saudi Arabian club. Now, everyone is asking: Which team will Ronaldo choose to sign with next? As leaks from the media become more and more frequent, football fans are looking forward to his final decision to be announced officially. CR7 will leave Al Nassr after 3 years? Recently, there has been information that the Al Nassr board of directors is not too keen on keeping Ronaldo. CR7 is 40 years old, receives a high salary, and plays without a spirit of supporting his teammates. Al Nassr chairman has also seen that Al Hilal is still doing well after parting ways with Neymar and has a reason to look for another striker instead of renewing Ronaldo. The boys did it for him and we are so proud,” the former Tottenham Hotspur manager said in quotes revealed by Nottingham Post.. “Since the beginning of the season we wanted to be in this fight (for the Champions League). Cyriel Dessers was thrilled to score his 50th goal for Rangers in Wednesday night’s 3-1 victory over Dundee United. Dessers scored the equalising goal for the Light Blues with a stunning header in the 25th minute. The Nigeria international then netted his second of the game from the penalty spot 17 minutes from time. It was his 28th goal of the season 50th overall since linking up with the Gers from Italian club Cremonese in 2023. : “It is very pleasing. As I mentioned before, it’s been a season with ups and downs, too many for everybody’s wishes, but it’s nice to end on a positive feeling here at Ibrox and I know it doesn’t make up for the whole season but it’s a nice feeling,” he told the club’s official website. “You know in these games, you can see it also in their players, that they are getting more tired and spaces are getting bigger so you need to keep the patience and keep the quality high. “I think we did that, also with the guys that came in. That is also good, if you can score two goals [in the second half] it is great and you have total control of the game.” Dessers thanked club captain and regular penalty taker James Tavernier for letting him take the spot kick which allowed him to take his goal tally to 50. He added: “We spoke about it a little bit earlier in the week and I have to thank him for letting me take it. “It’s a beautiful moment for me, the 50th goal and to score it here at Ibrox. That’s something I am very proud of and it’s a big milestone in my career. “It’s been a season with a few bumps, maybe a little bit too many, but I think it was a nice moment after the game for everybody – the fans, the players and the staff.” Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/it-is-very-pleasing-dessers-delight-at-50th-rangers-goal/
