Enyimba head coach, Finidi George has blamed tiredness for his side’s poor showing at the Naija Super 8 tournament.

The Nigeria Premier League champions were eliminated from the competition on Tuesday following a 2-1 defeat to Katsina United.

The Peoples’ Elephant failed to record a win in the competition losing two and drawing one.

Finidi stated that his players are tired after an hectic campaign.

“We need rest, we have to think about how we can get some good rest and prepare for next season,” he stated in a post match interview.

“Congratulations to those who have qualified and I wish them the best.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s club Al Nassr have been sanctioned by FIFA over a transfer issue involving Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa.

Al Nassr have been banned from registering new players going into the new Saudi Arabia Professional League season.

Al-Nassr have failed to pay Leicester City the money they owe them over Musa’s transfer.

Musa linked up with Al Nassr in a well celebrated move in 2018 after impressing at the World Cup in Russia.

Al Nassr paid Leicester City €16.50m to secure the services of Musa.

The former Saudi Pro League champions are however yet to pay the add-ons, despite The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling.

Al-Nassr were ordered to pay the Foxes €460,000 in performance-related add-ons.

The Saudi Arabian giants failure to obey CAS’ ruling has forced FIFA to ban them from registering new players ahead of the new season.

Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi says he’s optimistic Nigeria has the right mentality and quality to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Recall that Nigeria sealed qualification for the tournament with a game to spare after defeating Sierra Leone 3-2 last month.

The Super Eagles have won the tournament three times and were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Tunisia at the last edition of the competition hosted by Cameroon.

However, in an interview with Channels Television, Awoniyi said that he’s confident will be champions again in Ivory Coast.

“I think everyone in the squad is happy; the first stage is to qualify for the AFCON which we did already, then the next stage now is just to try everything possible to win the AFCON, which is the target for the country,” Awoniyi told Channels Television.

“The last one was an experience, I was there and we are happy we are there again and of course, we want to go there and we want to win the trophy for sure.”

Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana is close to sealing a move to Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin this summer transfer transfer window.

According to the Athletic, the move is reportedly a loan deal without an option to buy. Therefore the move will be terminated in the summer of 2024.

Fofana was signed by Chelsea in the 2023 winter window on a six year deal with an option to extend by a year.

However Chelsea acquired Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig and Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal in the forward department this summer hence necessitating a departure for Fofana from Stamford Bridge.

Also another forward Armando Broja will also feature for Chelsea in the pre-season after his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Chelsea on Monday unveiled their new home kit for the 2023/24 football season.

The unveiling was announced in a statement released on the club’s website.

Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Enzo Fernandes and former Chelsea stars Dennis Wise and Roberto Di Matteo modeled the new home kit.

Former Rangers star, Kenny Miller believes Cyriel Dessers will make a big impact at the club.

Dessers moved to Rangers from Italian club, Cremonese last week.

Spanish defender, Sergio Ramos has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain in this summer transfer window.

Ramos’ contract expired after two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain where he won two French Ligue 1 titles.

According to AS, Ramos’ return to his boyhood club Sevilla looks very unlikely at this point, and Inter Miami who just signed his former club teammate Lionel Messi and international teammate Sergio Busquets, have tabled an offer for him.

Former Napoli star, Salvatore Bagni has disclosed that Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen will either join Real Madrid or Man United this summer.

The Nigerian international has been the most sought-after player in the summer transfer window.

Shola Ameobi has backed his former club Newcastle United to move from strength to strength.

Chelsea have announced that N’Golo Kante will Join Saudi Arabia club Al-Ittihad at the expiration of his contract.

The club confirmed Kante’s move in a statement on their website on Wednesday.

Paris Saint-Germain and France forward, Kylian Mbappe, believes that he can beat other competitors to the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.

The current favourites for the award are Argentina captain Lionel Messi and Norwegian striker Erling Haaland.

Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu has revealed that the Super Eagles are condemned to beat Sierra Leone in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Sierra Leone Football Association has said the Leone Stars are in top gear ahead of Sunday’s 2023 AFCON qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The football body also disclosed that captain Steven Caulker could face the Eagles as he is recovering fast for the tie.

Incoming Chelsea player, Christopher Nkunku, has told Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino that he would love to be played in a free role.

Recall that Nkunku will join the Chelsea squad this summer from RB Leipzig, but there have been some questions over his imminent arrival at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old has reached an agreement to join the West London club, and the Blues will pay in excess of Nkunku’s £52.7 million release clause as they bolster their attacking options under Pochettino.

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville has told Erik Ten Hag to replace David de Gea ahead of Premier League next season.

Inter Milan wing back Federico Dimarco has suggested that pressure is on Manchester City to defeat Inter Milan in the final of the UEFA Champions League on Saturday, June 10 at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

“I think if someone dreams and goes on to the pitch with the right spirit, he has no pressure,” Dimarco said

Rivers United striker Nyima Nwagua has vowed that the Nigerian league champions will fight till the end despite Monday’s dramatic draw with Remo in the NPL Super Six playoffs.

Rivers United had to force Remo to a 2-2 draw on match-day two after snatching a late equaliser in the 96th minute.

Remo, who were looking for their first win, had gone 2-1 ahead following a 93rd minute strike

Nwagua had given the Port Harcourt-based club the lead in the 16th minute.

Despite settling for the draw, Nwagua stated that Rivers Until will fight on until their target is achieved.

“Not the result we wanted, but always proud of this group,” he wrote on Twitter.

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro was at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Monday for a scouting mission.

The ground is currently hosting the Nigeria Premier League Super Six playoffs.

The 63-year-old has so far watched all the games played in the NPL Playoffs.

The former Saudi Arabia coach is expected to include a few local players in his squad for the Super Eagles upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against the Leone Stars of Sierra.

Rivers United goalkeeper, Victor Sochima was included in the squad for the Super Eagles double header against Guinea-Bissau in March.

Peseiro’s charges will take on the Leone Stars at the Samuel Kayon Doe Stadium, Monrovia on June 18.

Argentina coach, Javier Mascherano says his side must be wary of the counter attacking threat of the Flying Eagles.

The hosts will face the Flying Eagles in the Round of 16 contest in San Juan on Wednesday night.

The winner will face Ecuador or South Korea in the quarter-finals.

Nigeria is a strong rival, especially physically . We know the record they have in the competition. They have done well in the past,” the former Liverpool and Barcelona midfielder told ESPN.

“We have analyzed them , you have to be very careful with your direct play, with your players in the middle forward and above all, in their transitions because they can do a lot of damage.”

“It is a team that will be waiting when we have the ball, to recover and come out of counterattack .

” Running we are not going to beat them. It is essential that the ball be ours . I want a game in which we have control through possession and from there, go attacking as a block and not with players off the hook. Doing that implies a long team and with that Nigeria takes advantage of us. We must go phase by phase”.

Pep Guardiola has been  named the 2022/23 Premier League Manager of the Season.
Guardiola has won the award for the fourth time in his seventh campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spanish coach best off competition from Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton), Unai Emery (Aston Villa), Eddie Howe (Newcastle United) and Marco Silva (Fulham) to land the award.

Guardiola guided City to their third Premier League title in a row and a fifth in six years, as well as securing places in the final of the FA Cup and Champions League.

After trailing Arsenal for much of the season, City clinched the title with three matches to spare following a 12-game winning streak.

Guardiola also won the award after title-winning campaigns in 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2020/21.

He is only the second manager in Premier League history to have won more than three awards after Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sevilla president Jose Castro has insisted that the Europa League title is the club’s birthright.

Castro made this known in a chat with TribalFootball ahead of tonight’s showdown against Roma in Budapest.

Castro said, “After such a difficult and complicated year that we’ve had, the reality is that in two months we have turned things around, we have turned the situation of the team, coach and entity around.

“We have the chance to play our seventh Europa League final. Maybe another club would have thrown it away but we didn’t, this competition is religion for us. We kept trying and we eliminated two great teams and then two other potential title aspirants like United and Juventus.

“The team has made a change with our coach, the enthusiasm of the fans, despite the problems and the distance there are 13,000 tickets sold and surely more than 12,000 will be at the stadium to support the team.

“We both have coaches with exceptional CVs but Roma also have a very important economic potential, but in the end in the Europa League, when there is Sevilla, you cannot take anything for granted.”

Arsenal on Friday unveiled their new home kit for the 2023/24 football season.

The club made the announcement in a statement on their official website.

Some of the club’s stars like Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli were on hand to model the net home kit.
Arsenal women’s team will wear the new home kit for the first time on Saturday while the men’s team will dorn it in their final game of the season against Wolves.

The new home kit draws inspiration from the 2003/04 Premier League title winning Invincibles.

“We’re delighted to introduce our new adidas home kit for the 2023/24 season, celebrating the joy and pride in moving forward together,” the club stated.

“Our new home kit will be worn on-pitch for the first time on Saturday when our women’s team face Aston Villa at Meadow Park in our final WSL game of the season. Our men’s team will also wear the new kit in our final Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

“Carrying forward the spirit of The Invincibles.

“Our new kit draws on the spirit of The Invincibles team of 2003/04, marking the beginning of the 20th anniversary of our unbeaten Premier League season. Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen could play under Antonio Conte or Luis Enrique as Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly targeted the duo to replace Luciano Spalletti.

Despite leading Napoli to a first league win 1990, Spalletti has admitted he could leave.

Spalletti said in a press conference following Napoli’s 3-1 win over Inter on Sunday that situation ‘has been brewing for a long time’ after working ‘from morning to night’.
According to Italian media Gazzetta dello Sport, De Laurentiis has identified Conte and Luis Enrique as possible replacements.

The Napoli president has reportedly held talks with Conte in the past about joining the club, while the 53-year-old is claimed to be keen on the role.

Conte left his position as Tottenham Hotspur manager in explosive fashion in March.

His reputation remains strong in Italy, where he has won Serie A four times as a manager with Juventus and Inter Milan.

A complication surrounds his likely salary demands, with De Laurentiis reluctant to pay more than £6million-a-year. Conte had reportedly earned £13million annually at Tottenham.

Luis Enrique is also viewed as a leading contender having been out of work since leaving his role as Spain national team manager in December.

He had held talks to become Chelsea manager, but the Blues are set to appoint former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Meanwhile, Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini and Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano are also reportedly on De Laurentiis’ shortlist, as well as former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann.

Rafa Benitez, who was Napoli manager between 2013 and 2015, has also been linked with a return to the club.

Spalletti, who has been in charge of Napoli since 2021, still has a year remaining on his contract.

Super Eagles duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi got poor ratings in relegation threatened Leicester‘s 0-0 draw at Newcastle United on Monday night.

Iheanacho and Ndidi were in the starting eleven for Leicester before going off in the 46th and 89th minutes respectively.
Following their unimpressive performances, both players were rated four out of 10.

Commenting on Iheanacho’s display, Leicester Mercury wrote: “He didn’t do anything of note, but it’s hard to criticise him for that. City’s first half was devoid of attacking threat, so he was rarely involved. When he tried to hold up the long balls, he was outnumbered.”

For Ndidi: “He looked lethargic in his press and he had very little composure on the ball during the few moments when City did have possession. He was well positioned to clear Wilson’s effort off the line in the first half though.”

Leicester’s Premier League fate is now out of their hands following the draw against the Magpies who sealed qualification to next season’s Champions League.

They sit 18th, and need to win on the final day against West Ham and hope Everton fail to beat Bournemouth at home.
