Enyimba will be without striker Ifeanyi Ihemekwele and defender Imo Obot when the People’s Elephant take on Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) in today’s [Wednesday’s] NPFL matchday 26 fixture at Enyimba International Stadium Aba, Completesports.com reports. Ihemekwele, who has scored five goals in the ongoing 2024/2025 NPFL season, dislocated his ankle joint during Sunday’s Abia State FA Cup final against Ahudiyannem FC at the Umuahia Township Stadium. According to Enyimba coach Stanley Eguma, the forward is expected to be sidelined for ‘a while’. Similarly, Super Eagles B Team left-back Obot sustained a knock in Enyimba’s matchday 24 fixture—a 1-0 victory over Rivers United in Aba. It was his stunning free-kick that secured all three points for the nine-time NPFL champions against Finidi George’s side. “Ihemekwele will not play. Obot will also not play,” Eguma confirmed to Completesports.com on Wednesday morning. “Ihemekwele dislocated his ankle joint in the FA Cup match on Sunday in Umuahia. He underwent an X-ray on Tuesday, but I am yet to receive feedback from the medical team on his condition. “The same goes for Imo Obot. He suffered a knock injury against Rivers United. Although the medics have cleared him, he has informed me that he is still experiencing pain, so he will not be available for the match against 3SC.” The 22-year-old Obot is part of the Super Eagles B Team that recently secured qualification for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Enyimba currently sit 10th in the NPFL table on 34 points from 25 matches, while Shooting Stars occupy second place with 41 points. Remarkably, 3SC coach Gbenga Ogunbote previously served as Enyimba’s technical head from 2016 to 2017, while Eguma was Rivers United’s head coach during the same period. Nigerian striker Bamidele Yusuf, has reached double figures of goals in the Serbian topflight, netting his 10th goal of the 2024/25 season for Vojvodina in their 1-1 draw away at FK Železničar Pančevo on Monday night. Yusuf opened the scoring 30 minutes into the game and his goal almost propelled Vojvodina to a priceless away win but the hosts snatched a point in stoppage time through Petar Gigic’s equaliser. Now on 10 goals, the 23-year-old sits second behind Red Stars’ Cherif Ndiaye who has 14 goals this season on the league’s scorers chart. Aside from his 10 goals, Yusuf also has two assists this season and his goal contributions in the Serbia topflight rank him among the highest-scoring Nigerians in Europe. Only Victor Osimhen (14 league goals) and Tolu Arokodare (15 league goals) have scored more than Yusuf (10) this season. Yusuf plays as a left winger, but he can also cover the position behind the attacker, making him an additional reinforcement and competition for his club and the Super Eagles – if he gets a call-up. Thanks to his impact, his club have moved to fifth in the Serbian topflight with 33 points after 23 games. Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/yusuf-bags-10th-goal-of-the-season-in-serbia/ Earlier this season, the striker weighed his chances of becoming the highest goal scorer of the Serbian topflight this season. “I have big chances to become the top scorer of the league this season. I just need to keep working hard game by game and after the end of the season, we will see,” he said. Yusuf joined Vojvodina as their sixth signing in the summer of 2024 from Radnički Niš, where he spent six months, and showed quality with an impressive return of six goals and five assists in 16 matches. Before arriving in Serbia, this Nigerian player played for Portuguese side Estoril and Spartak Trnava in Slovakia where he first plied his trade after arriving in Europe from Nigeria in 2020.

Galatasaray captain Fernando Muslera says the Turkish Super Lig champions are lucky to have Victor Osimhen in their team. Osimhen scored twice in Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory over Caykur Rizespor on Monday night. The 26-year-old has scored 14 goals in 18 league appearances for the Yellow and Reds this season. Muslera praised the Nigeria international for his impressive display in the game. ” He really puts in a lot of effort and fights every minute. He never gives up. We are all grateful to play with a player like him. “We knew we would achieve something as a result of supporting him. Today, he scored the goals that brought us victory. The second half allowed us to find ourselves even better and to score very effectively from a dead ball.” Galatasaray will now shift attention to Thursday’s UEFA Europa League play-off second leg tie against AZ Alkmaar. Atletico Madrid remain interested in signing Leicester City Nigerian midfield star Wilfred Ndidi, according to Caught Offside sources. Ndidi was close to leaving Leicester in the January transfer window but the club decided to keep the player in order to fight for their survival in the league this season. Atletico are still interested in signing the 28-year-old midfielder at the end of the season. Ndidi is starting to get more minutes for Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s side recently after overcoming a hamstring injury earlier in the season. He has also attracted interest from Real Betis and AS Monaco, who are keen on a loan deal. Monaco have made an offer to Leicester for £18 million plus an obligation to buy with additional payments of £2 million. However, despite their struggles financially, the 2015/2016 Premier League champions decided not to allow him leave in the recently closed January transfer window. Although Ndidi’s playing time has been limited this season, the club sees him as valuable for the depth he provides to the squad. Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is expected to be sidelined for another EIGHT weeks, compounding the Gunners’ injury nightmare. Saka, 23, torn his right hamstring during the Gunners’ 5-1 win away to Crystal Palace on December 21. The England international has been sidelined ever since and during his extended absence, two of his Arsenal team-mates and fellow attackers have been ruled out for the rest of this season. Gabriel Jesus suffered an ACL injury last month, a blow which is set to keep him out for much of 2025. And following a trip to Dubai for some mid-season warm-weather training, it’s emerged that top goalscorer Kai Havertz will miss the remainder of the campaign, having undergone hamstring surgery. Gabriel Martinelli is also out for around a month after picking up an injury against Newcastle. Now the Sun report (via Mirror) that Saka is likely to be out until mid-April, longer than anticipated. That means Mikel Arteta is without four forwards and only has Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling and teenager Ethan Nwaneri available ahead of Saturday’s trip to Leicester. Arsenal opted not to sign a forward during the winter transfer window, although it wasn’t for a lack of trying. Arteta confirmed earlier this month that the Gunners did go hunting for a new addition but were left ‘disappointed’. “We had a clear intention which is obvious,” Arteta, whose side are seven points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, told reporters. “There is a window open to explore the possibilities to improve our squad with players that can impact it. We haven’t achieved it. So we are disappointed in that sense but as well we are very aware that we only want to bring certain kind of players. We have to be very disciplined with that as well and I think we were. “I wouldn’t like to go into too much detail. We couldn’t do it for certain reasons and we have to accept it, that’s it. It was a combination of things.” Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/saka-suffers-injury-setback-with-arsenal-star-set-to-miss-eight-more-weeks/

When Mohamed Salah created Liverpool’s equaliser against Everton, he wrote his name into the Premier League record books. The Egyptian’s cross for Alexis Mac Allister at Goodison Park was his ninth assist away from home in 13 Premier League matches this season to go with 14 goals on the road in the 2-2 draw. According to premierleague.com, that combined total of 23 goal contributions in away Premier League matches surpasses Andy Cole’s record tally of 21 from 1993/94. He also struck to put Liverpool ahead with his 22nd league goal of 2024/25, making it the ninth Premier League match in which Salah has both scored AND assisted this season. That extended his own Premier League record for the most appearances both scoring and assisting inside a single campaign – no other player has done it more than seven times. It is Salah’s 14th assist in just 24 matches in the Premier League this season and he could well break the all-time assist record for a top-flight campaign. The record is jointly held by Arsenal’s Thierry Henry and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, who provided 20 assists each in 2002/03 and 2019/20 respectively. Meanwhile, the Reds are now seven points ahead of Arsenal in the league table courtesy of the draw with the Toffees. Declan Rice has said there is still a long way to go in the Premier League title race. Arsenal are in second place on 50 points and are six points behind leaders Liverpool who can go nine points clear if they beat Everton in their game in hand today (Wednesday). After exiting the Carabao Cup and FA Cup the Premier League and UEFA Champions League are the competitions left for Arsenal to land a silverware this season. When asked how Arsenal are feeling about the Premier League title race Rice said: “There’s still a really long way to go. The manager said in a press conference the other week, no matter what, the only thing we can worry about is ourselves. But at the end of the season, we will be there. “We can only keep believing in what we believe in, work on what we’re working on and have full trust in the manager, players and everyone around us that we can achieve great things. It’s down to us to get that over the line. Big things are coming. We need to stay positive and keep going.” Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal players are in Dubai for warm weather training. The Gunners will be back in the Premier League with a trip to the King Power to face Leicester City. Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/theres-still-long-way-to-go-in-epl-title-race-rice/

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho believes the quartet of Mikel Obi, Pep Guardiola, Yaya Toure, and Brenda Rodgers have played a huge part in influencing his football career. The Nigerian international who recently joined Middlesbrough on loan from Sevilla in the January transfer window made this known in a chat with TheBoroOfficial. “Biggest influence on my career? There are quite a couple. So many people helped me throughout my career, obviously, managers as well, [Manuel] Pellegrini, Brendan Rodgers, and Pep Guardiola. “Players as well Clichy, Kompany, Yaya Toure, obviously, and Jamie Vardy as well. Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has urged the Gunners to sign Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane in the summer. Kane left English football in the summer of 2023 when he joined Bayern Munich in an initial £82 million deal, and he’s continued to lay claim to being one of Europe’s deadliest frontmen with 72 goals in 73 games at the Allianz Arena. The 31-year-old won the European Golden Boot last season but failed to get his hands on the Bundesliga title. Arsenal are experiencing problems in attack amid a glaring lack of a proven goalscorer in Mikel Arteta’s squad that has plagued them during their Premier League title race with Liverpool. Kai Havertz is the Gunners’ top scorer in the top flight with nine goals in 21 games, and many were surprised a new forward didn’t arrive at the Emirates during the January transfer window. Merson gave his thoughts on Arsenal’s current dilemma regarding a poor run in front of goal, and he told his former club to turn to Kane. Merson suggested that the prolific forward may be persuaded to join the Gunners over Spurs because he’ll have a ‘better chance’ of breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record of 260 goals if he were to move to the Emirates. Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has said he would consider pairing Victor Boniface and Patrick Schick in attack more often. The two strikers played upfront in Die Werkself’s 3-2 DFB Pokal victory over FC Cologne on Wednesday night. It was the first time the duo will play together this season. Schick scored Leverkusen’s second goal deep into stoppage time. Boniface took the place of Exequiel Alejandro Palacios in the 76th minute. The Nigeria international then fired home the winning goal in extra time. Asked after the game whether the two strikers could play more often, Alonso responded: “Yes, that’s an option. We decide what we need every game and if we think that they can link up and understand what the team needs, it’s an option.” Bayer Leverkusen will be away to Wolfsburg in a league game on Sunday. Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has said Arsenal need a proper number nine for captain Martin Odegaard to shine. The Gunners failed to make any signing during the January transfer window especially a striker. Mikel Arteta’s side have been without Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus with Kai Havertz saddled with the task of filling in. The United former midfield star is lacking a proper forward. “Imagine Ødegaard with a centre forward, though. With a proper centre forward. Martin Ødegaard is a brilliant player, he can put a ball anywhere he wants. He hasn’t got that in front of him, a No. 10 needs that in front of him. “I don’t think Kai Havertz is that type of player, even though he might make the odd run here and there. You’re thinking Isak or Duran, the lad from Villa, if he had that in front of him, it makes him become a better player as well because he’s move involved with goals.” Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/arsenal-need-a-proper-no-9-for-odegaard-to-shine/

English-born Nigerian footballer Jordan Chiedozie is currently battling for his life after being hit by a car while trying to fix a flat tyre on the M27. The 30-year-old who plays for Bashley FC in the Southern League I, was traveling back from the weekend defeat at Tavistock with club physio Reighan Taylor when they sustained a flat tyre on the M27. It’s understood that both people were standing outside the Volkswagen Golf before it was struck “heavily” from behind by a Mercedes SLK. Jordan was taken to Southampton Hospital, suffering multiple broken bones and other physical injuries. At this time he remains in a controlled coma. According to the club’s statement: “Everyone at the club is completely stunned by what happened, and our thoughts at the moment are far more with Jordan and his family, and with Reighan, than they are with football. “Jordan’s team-mates are understandingly in bits and I am certain would not want to play so soon after this terrible accident, and in such circumstances I would certainly not want to give a team-talk. Therefore we have applied for Tuesday’s match to be postponed. “We are in close touch with Jordan’s immediate family, and will do all that we can to support them at this awful time.” Bashley FC chairman Steve Lewis added: “Our Bashley football family are heartbroken by this news and still trying to come to terms with the tragic events that occurred after our game on Saturday. “We are all together in wishing Jordan and Reighan the deepest of love and well wishes” Read Also:https://www.completesports.com/english-born-nigerian-footballer-in-critical-condition-after-being-hit-by-car-on-motorway/

Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol has claimed the club did not pay much attention on the UEFA Champions League as they find themselves on the brink of elimination from the competition. Even though City have made improvements in the Premier League following an unusual poor run of form , they are still having trouble in Europe and are outside the play-off spots going into their last group game. Gvardiol claimed that the Citizens should never have found themselves in their present position on the table. “We need to win,” Gvardiol told TNT Sports. “The good thing is that we play at home. At the moment it is a final game for us in the Champions League and I think we’re going to give everything on the pitch to achieve that and qualify for the knockout stage. “The thing is that we didn’t think earlier about getting more points in the Champions League, we were more focused on the Premier League and the cups, so now we are in the current situation. “We need to find a way out and I think we are going to manage that.” The Premier League giants will host Belgian Pro League side, Club Brugge side, who are unbeaten in 20 matches across all competitions on Wednesday (today) at the Etihad Stadium. Daniel Amokachi, Technical Adviser of Lobi Stars of Makurdi, has revealed that but for Emmanuel Amuneke’s late-night intervention, he would have resigned as head coach of the NPFL side, Completesports.com reports. Amokachi spoke after his team’s 1-0 defeat to Heartland FC at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, in Sunday’s NPFL Matchday 20 fixture. New signing John Bassey, making his debut for Heartland following a winter loan move from Bayelsa United, scored the decisive goal 13 minutes after the break. The hosts defended resolutely, battling fiercely to maintain their lead until the final whistle. Amokachi admitted he had been frustrated by developments around the Lobi Stars team, which nearly pushed him to quit. However, a midnight phone conversation with former African Player of the Year Emmanuel Amuneke convinced him to stay. “There were speculations before Christmas that I was given an ultimatum by Lobi Stars management, but that’s false. I wasn’t issued any ultimatum,” Amokachi clarified. “After the last game of the first round of the season against Heartland, I almost stepped down as head coach of Lobi Stars. I was upset, not at the team itself, but at certain things happening around us. “Emmanuel Amuneke heard about it and called me at midnight. We talked for nearly an hour, and his encouragement gave me a new perspective. That’s why I’m still here. He gave me so much positivity about the league and the future, and I’m truly grateful for that,” Amokachi said. When you want to win a big tournament you need a big squad. “We have good talent, players working very hard, the manager also has a good idea so we just have to give it a try and we’ll see.” Asked about scoring another 50 goals for Liverpool, Salah added: “I’m not sure about that, but I’ll give it my best.” He continued: “They had a really good gameplan and have been unbeaten for 21 games so quite a tough team. We give them credit but I’m glad we managed to win the win. “We recovered the ball from them, Curtis passed the pass very well and I managed to score. They went for the counter attack and managed to score. Little bit disappointed about it because the clean sheet is very important.
