Politics / Goodwill Message On The Occasion Of 2021 World Teachers’ Day by SolomonIsands: 2:22pm On Oct 05

As we celebrate the 2021 World Teachers’ Day, the Management and Staff of the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board(CR-SUBEB) reflect on the significant role teachers’ play in the development of any society.

We are reminded of your labour of love, your steadfastness and determination in ensuring that our children become exceptional adults, successful in career and life.

This year’s theme: “Teachers at the heart of education recovery” recognizes your tireless efforts even during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns. Your dedication to duty has been tested in the last year and you have risen tall to the occasion. As a Board we celebrate your doggedness.

Today, we are also reminded of our commitment and duty to you, to ensure that all that you deserve is accorded to you.

This is why the Governor Ben Ayade led administration has been at the forefront of teachers’ development through training and re-training, payment of salaries, conducive environment for teaching and learning, amongst others. We are aware that there is more to be done and we are totally committed to this cause, so that your reward as teachers’ begins here on earth and the teaching profession can take its pride in place.

Once again, we urge you all to take pride in your profession, remain committed to your responsibilities and to always put in your best at all times, for without you and your efforts society will not flourish.

Happy World Teachers’ Day to all our remarkable teachers!

Mr. Victor Omaga Odo (JP)
Executive Chairman, CR-SUBEB

Politics / Hon Grace Unah Surprises Pupils With Scholarships by SolomonIsands: 2:54pm On Jun 16
The Hon Councillor representing Igede Ward in Yala LGA of Cross River State has surprised primary school pupils of her ward with scholarships and other learning materials.

This is as news continues to recognize female Hon Councillors in Cross River State who are affecting their wards positively.

Hon Grace Unah , the Councillor is on the radar today.

She is one female legislator who is changing the face of representation to make history for herself despite the harsh times facing Councillors and Council Chairmen in the state. In commemorating her one year anniversary, she has broken hitherto known barriers and stereotypes by going the extra mile.

Earlier yesterday, she took Igede Ward by storm with the award of scholarship to Twelve (12) pupils of Sacred Heart Primary school, Ezekwe/Okpodon. The councilor also distributed writing materials and other learning aids to all the pupils of the school.

According to her, the scholarship scheme will continue till the end of her tenure and it will be extended to other schools in her ward. This is quite great and commendable.

Our female legislators at the grassroots are making us proud with their seasoned, witty, intelligent and savvy approach to representation. That’s something that men have been quiet taken aback by.

According to a report by Lukpata Ebiale Julius , Hon.Grace Unah is a living councillor among the death who have shown leadership responsibility by embarking on educational empowerment having known that for any society to grow education is the fulcrum. Not just beautiful in the face but intelligent and active in leadership.

With the meagre resources available to Councillors in Cross River State, Hon Grace Unah has equally written her name in the sands of time and should be commended for this rare feat.

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu Is A Criminal, Using Biafra As Business – Asari Dokubo by SolomonIsands: 12:43pm On Jun 14
Nnamdi Kanu is a criminal, using Biafra as business – Asari Dokubo

Former Niger Delta militant, Mujahid Asari Dokubo has described Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB as a criminal who hides behind the Biafra struggle to extort money from Igbos.

Dokubo who recently formed the Biafra Customary Government (BCG) and declared himself as its commander, accused the IPOB leader of turning the struggle to personal source of income.

In a recent video he released on social media, the ex-militant narrated how he treated IPOB members who were injured during violence in the Southeast.

He said, “Now they said they brought money to Cotonou to give to me, 30 million Naira.

“We are waiting for them to bring the evidence. They came to Cotonou to meet me, I hosted them, I fed them, they didn’t bring a dime.

“I had paid several medical bills for IPOB members in different places they have been injured.

Keyamo explains why he supported MASSOB, Niger Delta Avengers, Asari Dokubo

“But Nnamdi Kanu thinks that because he is a thieve and because stealing, fraudulent, drug-pushing, human parts trafficking, is so wide with Igbo people, he can control everybody.

“You want to form a nation with Igbos, it definitely be a criminal country.

“I have never looked for Nnamdi Kanu. He was the one looking for my contact everywhere. Some of my followers who came to me to join IPOB, I allowed them to do so.

“He is always doing the callings. I have never picked up my phone to call him before. Because he is the one who knows when he is free in the prison to call.

‘He called and begged there should be cooperation, which I agreed. Nnamdi Kanu is a supreme coward.

“Biafra is your business now, you have no other avenue for gainful income. It is a pity how Igbo people have fallen for this evil, but your time is up.

“I am out for you. And I will get you. I just asked that our people be allowed to vote and you sent your dogs. I’ve broken their teeth.”

Politics / Reading For Pleasure by SolomonIsands: 9:25am On Jun 14
Reading for Pleasure

Each time we read for enjoyment, the empathy awakened within us creates entire landscapes in our mind's eye.

Every book has the potential to touch the human soul deeply, arousing patterns of thought that might otherwise have lain dormant. The pleasure we derive from the written word is unique in that we must labor for it. Other forms of art provide us with stimulus and ask nothing more than our emotional response. Reading is an active pastime that requires an investment of emotion as well as our concentration and imagination. The words we read are merely a starting point for a process that takes place largely within our minds and hearts.

There are few activities as comforting, relaxing, and healthy as perusing the pages of a good piece of fiction or nonfiction. Curling up with a book and a cup of tea is one of the simplest ways we can remove ourselves from the confines of reality in order to immerse ourselves in the drama and intrigue of the unfamiliar. The pleasure of transcending reality is only one aspect of the reading experience, however. Each time we read for enjoyment, whether we prefer the fantastic nature of fiction, the empathy awakened within us by memoir, or the instructive passion of nonfiction, we create entire landscapes in our mind's eye. The books we choose provide us with the inspiration we need to accomplish such a feat, but it is our own creative reserves that empower us to use our imaginations for this unique and beautiful purpose.

The tales you lose yourself in can lead you on paths of discovery that take you out of your own life and help you see that existence can unfold in an infinite number of ways. You can learn so much from the characters and mentors who guide you from page to page. Your emotions are awakened each time you read, allowing you to become vessels of the passion that pours forth from line after line of print. Ultimately, the books you absorb -- those that touch you deeply -- will become a part of who you are, providing you with a rich and thrilling world within that you can revisit anytime you wish by simply closing your eyes. If you haven't read a book for pleasure lately, try and allow yourself the time -- you deserve it.
