I remember that goal die. Was a pass from the middle that freed up Utaka one on one against the cameroonian goal keeper. In that match, Okocha scored a free kick. I can even remember and describe both goals against Cameroon. Mboma and Eto were both hot and spicy during that era. Meeenn Mickael2: Boss, the discussion was loooong and I sent in that comment around 12am? You can see I even ended the argument myself.
Back to Kanu, Mujitdha I pointed out that a legend need not score goals or even assist but his input in the team is all that matters. I can remember a game against Cameroon(can't remember the year) but we won 2-1 or so(okocha and Utaka), Utaka's goal came from a brilliant pass from Kanu that sent him clean through. Kanu is a legend, that he didn't score goals in the Afcon does not change that fact for me |

Maybe because he hasn't proven himself to be good at it. In Brazil, long FK is taken by D.Alves and sometimes Williams. Short FK taken mostly by Neymar. Portugal is Ronaldo etc. We need a proven FK taker. It only comes in handy. Alot of games have been won from just a goal scored via FK BascoVanVeli: We have Moses Simon but the problem is that once he misses one somebody will want to take the next one. |

Really? Let me look that up but who's our main FK player? edi287: Think he scored one for us against Tanzania or so. Seen, scored against Swaziland in the 2:0 win. Read that he is the official FK taker for the SE but then I don't think he's even 50% accurate with it. I mean some known countries have about 1-2 FK takers that are more than 50% accurate. Mikel can't fit into this. Ndidi, Etebo, Agu and even Ogu should work on THEIR FK ability, same with Victor Moses, infact if anyone is to excel well at taking FK, I expected V.Moses to have stepped into this role. He's got the curves already and a good shot power/accuracy. He should be made to take this serious. |

I have one reservation for the current SE squad, does it mean we have no one who can take accurate FK? By now, we should have a 50% (accuracy) free kick taker.
There was a time Emenike used to take for us, Taiye Taiwo, okocha, oboabona, osaze but of recent, we haven't scored a free kick.
Shouldn't our players be taught this or learn on their own?
Countless times have clubs/countries been saved by FKs.
It's a leverage just like PKs |

Not really an argument, just wanted to know why you don't see it as a snub even with his weekly performances so far...all the same, the coach knows the tools he needs. Well just like Obi is being snubbed for Agu.. Well he's in charge (the coach) so he takes the fall/praise. The best is what we need and he owes us that. Joebie: That's not a mystery. What the coach sees is not necessarily what reporters see. Also, tactical decisions are made based on the situation of the match at that point in time, and what the coach is trying to achieve. Let's see if Rohr will consider Ogu ahead of Agu next time |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 6:35pm On Sep 29, 2017 |
But how come we always read that Ogu does well in training but never used by Rohr? The Ogu that I have watched in the SE should be the one playing if not in the first 11 but as the next sub for anyone in the midfield. Joebie: Wonderful stats. The previous season, Ogu was voted the best player in Israel. But that didn't catch Rohr's attention for a reason. John Ogu is not new to us. Let's just assume he has improved, but it's still the Israeli league. He is in the set up now. If he can't beat Agu to it, then I don't think he has any business going to Russia |

Yes, the buck rest on Rohrs shoulders. Joebie: Yes, some people towed your line of reasoning after the second match against Cameroon, and Rohr was asked about it. Let's see if Rohr will try Ogu instead next time. Everything will depend on how the players fare in SE colors prior to Russia. |

We have too many DMs with almost equal abilities, having a tall and strong DM is a BIG plus and it matters. Air ball, reach, strength, agility and all that adds to a DM's qualities. Ogu is not that slow, way faster than Busquet and some known DMs out there. I would take an Ogu before any Agu who kept losing the ball in the midfield away to Cameroon. Joebie: Agu is more of a defensive midfielder.
Joel Obi is fast and good with both feet. In fact it would be a delight to have both himself and Mikel because they can easily switch roles as AM and CM. Mikel can offer more defensively when needed, or when we need to hold on to the ball. Mikel can also go forward of course. Both players will have the freedom to roam provided there is a dependable DMF.
I think the battle is actually between Agu, Ndidi and Onazi, speaking defensively. Ndidi is also very good going forward, but he is young. He will get even better. Ndidi and Joel Obi no be mate, offensively.
Lastly, size will not be a big factor at the world cup. Ogu is not mobile enough. |

Technicality and beautiful football is low in the EPL unlike other major leagues and I rate these 2 higher than strength and speed. Football is entertainment first before "war". komekn: Really depends on what you mean by quality?
The EPL is not the most technically superior league in Europe, but with regards to speed and physical intensity it is numero 1 indisputable.
Not every top player cam cope with the EPL I actually think Neymar would not find it easy in the EPL. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 9:14am On Sep 29, 2017 |
I think if Agu is to make the world cup squad, I would rather we go with Joel Obi than him, Mikel Agu isn't really a player you can hand over the SE midfield to judging by the 2 games I have seen him play for us of recent.
He's not really that good with reading the game unlike Joel Obi. Another point is that we have too many right legged players in the midfield and with Obi, a left legged player is achieved.
There was a particular shot Mikel Obi should have taken in our recent match if he was a left legged player but couldn't do that, it was a clear goal scoring opportunity I think in Uyo.
Lastly, Joel Obi can hold the ball and boss the midfield better than Mikel Agu.
I say we drop Agu and pick Obi (they play same position).
For size, I want Ogu to make the team incase we need to play against big body players which means Onazi would have to sit on the bench.
Midfielders I want to see in Russia
Mikel Obi, Joel Obi Onazi, Ogu Ndidi, Etebo
Alex iwobi either as an attacker or a midfielder. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 8:08pm On Sep 28, 2017 |
Most players want to go to the EPL not because of the quality of football but because of the exposure and MONEY. komekn: I agree with you the operative word being pretty well.
You probably know that for most players irrespective of nationality, the destination of choice if they can make it, the EPL.
I really expect to see much more Nigerian origin players in the EPL in the coming years.
The bar for the EPL clubs is really they expect to win it be in the final or barest minimum quarter finals. So anything less is doing badly.
The club's to beat still for me are Real, Barca and Juventus.
For clubs in Belgium, Austria, Turkey, Holland getting past group stage is a win, that's the level of expectation. Which essentially reflects what level they are on in football terms. |
