that's for your kind sir but I ve been on this forum for years and in my experience nairalanders are bad for business, unless you want to spoil your reputation. Thanks to Jiji some of us won't have become anything in life. They want the best, they know the website to extract the best stock photos on earth but when it's negotiation time the combine like 50 artisans and start hit their heads together then play on the weak side of the hungry ones and then come back here to say that they don't get value for their money.

You should not be afraid to name names as we also talk about artisans delivering below par jobs, we should also talk about clients cheating or underpaying artisans.

Here or jiji, a bad client /artisan remains bad. Just that you can't complain about these people on jiji, so some of them rather run there where they can get away with fraud/mediocrity.

One thing though, except an artisan was forced to take the job, the decision not to be underpaid is in his or her to take.

Please do not buy ready made furniture, Go to the market and select the material you want, either fabric of leather, Give it to someone to make for you. Tell them the type of wood you want. Mahogany is a good one but be sure to see it once purchased or follow them to wood market to select the type of wood you want. Time consuming but that is what it is.

I am shocked that Michlin could see someone's demand for good workmanship as an attack on Nigerian artisans while he had earlier made comments about how the Beninoise had taken over the plastering business from Nigerians because of poor workmanship.

I can't go below my taste. I will pay you money and demand thorough workmanship. There is nothing like "Nigeria is a difficult place". Every body is facing the same difficulty in his or her trade. That should not be a reason to compromise on quality.

Give them sample of what you want, some would still deliver below standards. Sometimes, it's not about having the correct tools. It's about concentration and cheer determination to deliver first class work.

Michlin, please allow people that demands professionalism to be. Once you have established taste for class, you wouldn't want to go below it.

When it comes to items like furniture, recommendation isn't everything due to the difference in taste.

What is even annoying is the fact that what they display is always good looking compared to what they end up building for you. I then wonder who built the displayed ones.

I wanted to buy some chairs from vava earlier this year, my wife discouraged me due to the cost and said we should build one instead.

We checked various furniture makers, they are mostly displaying their jobs on major highways Lagos-Abeokuta express way etc.

We decided to try out one of those guys displaying good looking chairs.

I gave him specifics, down to using 100% fibre for the covering, do you know that 1 week into delivery (After delaying by 5 days), the arms of at least 2 of the seaters started shaking?

Called him several times to come fix these issues, he kept giving excuses until I stopped calling him.

He even used the wrong color and wanted more money to have the fabrics changed to the color I chose.

There are things I wont be allowing Nigerian artisans handle for me, it's just getting out of hand. Almost all the furniture makers I have patronized for the past 5 years disappointed me one way or the other.

I don't know why this is so, is that that perfection is no longer a yardstick?

Artisans no longer want to stand out or what exactly is happening?

Democracy no fit Nigeria and Nigerians.

My advise is for you to pick up some interior design magazines and pick what tickles your fancy.

You can also pay a competent home decor to help interpret your imagination.

There's nothing wrong with white interior as long as you don't have children that are very young at home.

Like someone above said, the content of your home can be of different color to complement the white.

Working from home is still a tasking job. If you expect someone working from home to still have time to babysit and homeschool while working, then you don’t know what it takes. You think they’ll just sit at home and watch their babies and get paid? They don’t have zoom meetings? Conferences, emails, etc to attend to?
Please be realistic. It’s not even as if those jobs are that many in reality

I have an office at home too
I take care of the children when it's my turn to be home
Wifey does hers when she's off work (work from home)

Money to run the home isn't an issue.
even if I tell my wife to stay home for years, it still won't be an issue.

I am saying reality here, not some fairy tales.

There is nothing difficult with adjusting to jobs/work that won't expose your home to vultures out there and if you can't find one, keep off raising children until you can.

The problem with people like you is that you think raising children is the sole responsibility of the mothers, so when someone bring up the issue, you quickly make it a "mother vs fathers" talk.

Even at your game, you still would fail because a woman can be a stay at home mother, yet make more than some 9 to 5 working fathers/mothers.

Wake up, it's 21st century, technology has made working easier, so no more excuse for non working stay at home mum or even dads.

First of all, women who work are not competing with their husbands in anything, the economy is hard coupled with the fact that husbands tend to resent wives who contribute nothing financially to the running of the home so the women end up taking up jobs to avoid insults and disrespect from their husbands that see them as leeches.

The average Nigerian male doesn't even want to marry a jobless woman.

As for taking up jobs that are flexible; you are just speaking idealistically. How many of these flexible jobs actually pay well enough to make any impact or any difference in the woman and her children's lives? Is it teaching that the salary is 15k and the teacher spends like 5k on transport alone or petty trading that fetches about 10k monthly?


Many men don't even appreciate their wives that do these petty jobs because the women are barely contributing anything financially so the men think they are the only ones providing.


It's better for males that don't want their wives to neglect his infant kids, to work to double his hustle and possibly get multiple jobs instead of bullying their wives into getting 9-5 jobs that require dumping new born infants in daycare from dawn to dusk.

Working doesn't mean you should not have time for your children, it's all about planning.

There are various ways to make money and still have time for your children.

Using work as an excuse to send a 1yr 7 months to school is sick.

I have a 2yr+ old daughter at home and won't be starting school until she can talk or September.

Enough of this excuses.

Plan your life, if you don't have a job that gives room for child raising, defer child bearing till you can save enough to be around him/her.

In this jet age, working is not limited to 6am to 8pm. You can work from home and still earn more than those queueing at the bustop everyday of the week just to prove they are working.
