Politics › Re: Tinubu May Reshuffle Cabinet, Create New Ministry by SoNature(m): 9:50am On Jun 12, 2024
Tinubu should focus on restructuring the country and allow the federating units administer the country and pay taxes to the federal government.

I don't want to believe that the document of regional government flying around the internet is another tool APC uses for lies, deceits and propaganda.

Politics › Re: Nigerian Passports To Get Global Respect With ICAO PKD Integration, Says FG by SoNature(m): 8:40am On Jun 12, 2024
A passport is mere official document. Integrating digital features in it won't change anything. What earns passports respect is how the world perceives your government and the people.

If your people travel less for greener pastures, you will earn a lot of respect around the world. If the world knows your government is taking leadership seriously and the people are innovative, you will earn global respect. Nigerian passports aren't even respected in Africa let alone outside Africa.

The commission should get the Chief of Defence Staff to get rid of countless police and military checkpoints in the region. Between Enugu and Port Harcourt, there are over 50 checkpoints extortion points. No, I am not exaggerating it.

In short, the way soldiers order people to alight from their vehicles and trek past the military checkpoints will make you wonder if the region is at war.

You must be one of the criminals benefiting from nddc. What do you even know about the agency. Do you know the type of contract inflation going on there. Do you know the number of projects paid fully for and never executed. People will just come online to talk rubbish. What are you really defending. Do you know how much people settle to get paid for work done in nddc. If they tell you the cost of those street lights will you believe it. Abeg shift go one side. When has nddc only got just 50% of budgetary allocation
Your problem is that you are sanctimonious. There's nothing that happens at NDDC that doesn't happen at other MDAs. This is just who Nigerians are. The earlier you realise that, the better for you.

PS: I have never worked for the NDDC in my life. My point is that NDDC is not the problem, Nigerians are. Nigerians are horrible humans and that rascality has left the country stagnating 100 years after amalgamation.

Everyone should key into Senator Ned Nwoko's Anioma State. That's how we can reunite with our brothers and sisters across the Niger.

Those companies should go and check why they ran out of business.

For goodness' sakes, we don't even have stable electricity in this country, meaning that generators support 80% of our economy.

If you can use 200k to run your factory generator every month, why can't you pay 100k in power bills?

This woman should face her primary duty as a lawmaker. You can't be a legislator and still want to play executive role at the same time.
That woman is right. Wike is sending bills to the senate through Tinubu and bypassing the only senator that represents the FCT. If Tinubu was a reasonable person, he would tell Wike to go and work with her. Wike has publicly said that he cannot work with the woman. Imagine an appointed government official saying he cannot work with the highest elected government official in his territory.

In an ideal circumstance, Kingibe is supposed to present to her own house any bill that concerns her district, not Tinubu. That should be when she and Wike have met to deliberate on it. Afterwards, she will tell Wike areas that need to be adjusted because she's elected while Wike is just an appointee; the people know her more than Wike and she understands the plights of the people more than Wike.

This NDDC money self what visible impact have the money assign before made on this community.

I still don't understand this country self from FG to the citizens everyone want to steal
Yes, people have mismanaged NDDC's money in the past, but that doesn't mean the commission doesn't make any significant impact.

My community has a smooth road with street lights today because of NDDC. Plus, every year, NDDC sponsors 200 young people across the 9 states in ND region to go overseas and further their education. Still, the commission has built school hostels, bridges and hospitals in the ND region.

The NDDC just needs the right people to run it. Mind you, that the budget was approved doesn't mean that the commission will get the whole money. They may end up getting 30 - 50% of that budget at the end of the year.

Politics › Enugu State Government Seals EEDC Due to Disconnection Notice by SoNature(op): 4:59pm On Jun 11, 2024
The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), Tuesday, sealed the offices of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in Enugu State.

This is happening days after EEDC announced that it would disconnect power supply to the Enugu State Government House and those of other state governments as well as institutions in the South-east over N180 billion debts which they allegedly owed the company.

The spokesperson for the EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement forwarded to PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr Ezeh said, on arrival at the EEDC headquarters in the state on Tuesday morning, he and other staff members of the company were surprised to observe that the ECDTA had sealed their headquarters.

“We were informed by the security men on duty that in the early hours of today (Tuesday) at about 1:53 a.m., a group of men came and locked up the gates, claiming that the state governor directed the action,” he said.

The spokesperson said, apart from the headquarters, their offices in Abakpa, Awkunanaw and Ogui areas were also sealed by the agency.

He said the development was “strange” given that there was no notice of any sort to the EEDC from the ECTDA.

According to him, “there has not been any clear information or communication from the ECDTA explaining their action.”

Disconnection Notice
Mr Ezeh suspected that the sealing of EEDC’s offices might be connected to the notice issued by the company to commence disconnection of its indebted customers as from Tuesday.

“Enugu State Government happens to be one of the indebted customers with over N1 billion owed to EEDC. It is important to state that the majority of the state government’s facilities are metered. So, it is not a case of estimated billing,” he said.

“EEDC has about N180 billion as debt owed the company and has concluded plans to commence disconnection of indebted customers.”

ECDTA silent
When contacted on Tuesday, the chairperson of the ECTDA, Uche Anya, told PREMIUM TIMES that he would not immediately speak on the incident because of a meeting he was going to have with the state governor, Peter Mbah.

Pressed to confirm why the ECTDA sealed the offices of the electricity company, Mr Anyanwu said, “I will return your call.”

He was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Crime › Re: Gunmen Kill 2 Policemen, Passer-By In Okigwe, Imo by SoNature(m): 4:47pm On Jun 11, 2024
If you travel between Port Harcourt and Enugu, you will hate that stretch of road. For every 500 metres, you see a police or military extortion point. Soldiers will order you to alight from your vehicle and trek past their extortion point before you continue driving. Since 1999, driving across the SE federal highways has always been like moving across a region at war. In this case, men in uniform extort motorists. A journey of 4 hours is done in 6 hours due to avoidable delays by men in uniform.

But you can drive from Lagos to Asaba and see only 6 - 7 checkpoints. This is one of the reasons why the unknown gunmen are taking the laws into their hands. Those uniformed men should get off our federal highway or the unknown gunmen will speak to them the language they understand. When they do, make sure you go after the unknown gunmen and leave innocent people alone.

Politics › Nigeria Seals $1bn Deal On Five Power Plants by SoNature(op): 2:29pm On Jun 10, 2024
Nigeria has reached the final stage of its plan to sell five key power plants at a cost of $1.15 billion, with the bid winners soon to be announced.

The move is part of the government’s broader strategy to overhaul the energy sector, boost efficiency, and attract private investment.

With the bid process now complete, the sale marks a crucial step towards addressing the country’s chronic power shortages and fostering economic growth.

Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power said the bidding process had been finalised and a final report submitted to the National Council of Privatisation (NCP) which has Kashim Shettima, Nigeria’s vice president, as its chairman.

“At the next NCP meeting, a final announcement of the preferred bidders will be made public,” Adelabu said at BusinessDay’s Powering Nigeria conference, Friday.

“The assets will not only increase revenue for the three levels of government, it will also bring better efficiency for the power sector,” Adelabu said.

He noted there are a few teething problems such as the bid quotes and payment mode and other issues which are already being resolved.

BusinessDay findings showed the five power plants include a 434 megawatts Geregu II gas-fired Kogi, the 451MW Omotosho II plant in Ondo, and the 750MW Olorunsogo II plant in Ogun State.

Others include the 563MW Odukpami power plant in Calabar, Cross River State; and the 451MW Benin-Ihovbor plant in Edo State.

The Benin-Ihovbor plant with five power-generating turbines would go for $420 million; Calabar Odukpami plant with five turbines would be sold at about $260 million; while the Geregu plant with four turbines would go for $215 million.

It was gathered that the Omotosho plant, which has four power-generating turbines, would be sold at about $85 million; while the Olorunsogo National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) with also four turbines would cost $170 million.

In December 2022, BusinessDay reported the federal government and the 36 state governors agreed to sell five power plants under the National Integrated Power Projects and use the proceeds to fund the 2023 budget.

The agreement came after over two years of disputes and legal tussles regarding the sale of the NIPP plants managed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPH).

Alex Okoh, former director general, Bureau of Public Enterprises, had disclosed the agreement between the Federal Government and the States regarding the NIPP plants to journalists in Abuja during an interview. The disclosure was, however, opposed by various groups.

There have been discussions and plans for the sale of the NIPPs by the Bureau of Public Enterprises for several years, with the specific details and target sale amount evolving over time.

In April 2021, the National Council on Privatisation approved the sale of five NIPPs through a fast-track strategy. The estimated value of these five plants was not publicly disclosed at the time.

In March 2022, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation expressed interest in acquiring some NIPPs, indicating continued progress with the sale.

In December 2022, the former BPE boss, Okoh, confirmed an agreement between the Federal Government and states for the sale of five NIPPs.

Police has the right to raid any house, business or property anywhere in the world. The EFCC acts as a financial fraud unit of the Nigerian police. If you don't want the EFCC to catch you doing silly things when others are sleeping, stop going to nightclubs.

On a more serious note, the problem of Nigeria is that the EFCC or police doesn't raid your business without you paying to regain freedom. Just like everything else we abused in this country, the EFCC has also abused raids.

If you waste a human life, you will never find peace for the rest of your life. Even soldiers who kill for the government get tormented for the rest of their lives. Every wasted soul carries its unique torment.

However, if you must enjoy killing people every now and then, you must use drugs, drinks and weed to suppress your humanity. Young gunners who kill now and enjoy it should never get old because they will live their old age paying for what they did. May the unfortunate victims rest in peace, amen.
