kingsways: It is rude and disrespectful to refer to a Senator of the Federal Republic as "every tom, dick, and harry". Nigeria has got only 109 Senators and it is both irresponsible and provocative to refer to a Senator in such derogatory terms.
That Abia State Governor or Anambra State pulled down properties illegally built on water ways cannot be a justification for Lagos State Government to illegally move into a facility owned by the Federal Government and begin to pull down legally acquired properties which people have laboured through their own sweat, blood, even borrowed funds to develop their is nothing rude about the way he addressed the joker called senators who is even ignorant about the laws of the land and come out in public to display is ignorance. If he had respected himself he won’t be in a situation where he would be disgraced by a commissioner What business does he have with Lagos? Is Lagos his jurisdiction? Have you seen a senator from Lagos interfering with happening in anambala where he hails from? We didn’t hear his voice when similar demolitions was carried out in anambala but immediately it happens in Lagos yorubaland that as the responsibility to administer the laws, a so called senator thinks he has the right to tell them how to govern their state The laws of the land does not give a hoot about your emotion and tribal sentiments. We won’t open our eyes and allow Lagos to be turned to a slum. Whoever is not pleased can by all means take his investment back home and go do as they wish in their state |

Is this not the definition of a people being insecured and rather trying to destroy others, dont think Nigerians are dumb, everyone is watching the dance of shame and it will certainly come with a repercussion. We all know what the aim and target is all about,we are keeping records and yet nobody was giving free land in Lagos, while they were using their money for owambe, others saved through manifold struggle and relentless efforts but they want it back through the back door.Things dont work this way,it will certainly attract grave consequences. Is this not a big shame and dent to a people! 😂😂😂cry me a river…..your tears no fit full basket. You clowns remember one Nigeria when it’s concerns Lagos after making your caveland uninhabitable for living with your self inflicted woes……when you force other Nigerians living in alaibo to sit at home every Monday, was the Nigeria constitution not also suspended then that grant every Nigerian the freedom to live and move freely anywhere? But when it concerns Lagos you clowns suddenly remember one Nigeria and the constitution😂😂😂btw is Lagos no more a no man’s land again? If the intentions of the government was in good faith, it would have been the state asking the federal to remit such payments to the state or ask for certain accruals into the state coffers then clearly communicate to the nigerian citizens. The primary aim of govt is to secure lives & properties of its citizens not Destroy it because of common levies or taxes. Hedonisco: All this talk is irritating and meaningless. You can't eat your cake and have it too. Nobody is dragging Ogun or Osun or Ekiti. There has to be a reason.
With the trillions of Naira that have poured into Lagos due to the 'accident' of it being the Nigerian capital for over 60 years, with the attendant unfair advantages that has accrued to it as a result, it would be annoying to keep mouthing this rubbish talk. It is what it is.
Tomorrow now, the Ggagyi people or whatever they are called would raise shoulder to start forming ownership of Abuja/FCT and entitlement, and one emergent big belle tribal god will be shalaye-ing that he laid the 'blueprint' that 'developed' Abuja and that other Nigerians in Abuja should go back to their villages. We need to clear some things. Una go cry tire…..Lagos as been far developed and far ahead of Nigeria even before the almagamation of Nigeria. So how as Nigeria trillion of naira poured into Lagos? Archtype: I would have left you to your Ignorance but I still have to find time to educate you small. ...Trade fair Complex in Lagos is a federal govt.establishment not state .It's under the agency of FG and if anyone wants to get approval to build there ,he goes to federal government land Registry in Ikoyi not to Lagos govt.land Registry in Alausa
..Lagos state Commissioner for physical planning and Urban development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide lied that buildings are on the carnal .No building there is on drainage channel or on carnal .Trade fair Complex is not in the moon ,anybody can go there and see . 25th September 2025 was the first time they went there and the result was illegal demolition.
.. Who should give approval ? It's the federal government that gives approval for building in fed .lands not state and since 1995,fed. Govt.has been given approval for buildings in Trade fair Complex. Lagos state govt .has not given one approval for buildings there .
... Concurrent jurisdiction? There is no concurrent jurisdiction . There are federal govt lands in all the states in Nigeria being managed by fed .housing authority not states and oversight functions is done by FG not state government.
.... Executive director of Trade fair Complex is shocked by that action . I'm an Estate Surveyor and A Valuer and a fellow so I know all about land ownership and land allocation and the process . It's the trade Fair management board that manages trade Fair complex not Lagos state government.
..Igbos in Lagos should be left alone .They import goods ,clear the goods and on taking the containers to their shops ,a lot of obstacles will be placed on them on the road with many levies from one pole to another . Igbos contribute to the GDP of this country . #6.6 trillion naira was collected by Customs last year . Ain't they majorly the money paid by importers for clearing their goods ?
.. Obi wielding sentiments? It's not true. Mr Commissioner ,Dr Oluyinka Olumide should stop deceiving the people and stop playing politics over the investments of people. Obi was one of the developers of Trade Fair complex .He has a plaza there and over 200 shops since 1995 . typical of an average ibo, you are even taking pride in your ignorance that’s why you lot will still continue to fall victim. Fews day ago the commissioner for information still came out and gave a comprehensive explanation and also quoted the section of the law concerning land use act that give state govt the power to approve construction wether on federal or state land. For your information all land belong to state govt regardless wether it was allocated to the FG. Trade fair was allocated to the FG but before any structure will be built on it, it will still need the approval of the state govt which you traders fail to receive approval from state government and the govt even gave you some lifelines to come and re validate your papers but you fail to do that now you re trying to be smart and proving to know the law more than the state govt If indeed you have your approval papers, why not take the govt to court and prove your case? And till now non of the affected traders have come out to claim or show the approval given to them by either FG or state but play the victimisation card in your usual manner. I didn’t even bother to read the remaining nonsense you wrote and in conclusion if you lot can’t obey the rules of the land or you feel govt is victimising you,why not relocate your investment back to your region or any other state in Nigeria after all we have 36 states plus the FCT |

Ofunaofu: You are not from Lagos, your father doesn't own a square foot size of a keke parking spot any where in Lagos, though you may be yoruba as I can deduce from your comment because it is soaked in the same tired cocktail of tribal revisionism and historical cherry-picking that some of you mistake for facts. You keep shouting we developed Lagos, yet you ignore the critical contributions of non-Yoruba Nigerians who continue to power its economic engine today. Let’s clear this up again since you’re still struggling with comprehension.
First, I never said the success story of Lagos is my “2x2” shop. That’s your strawman, that is your propaganda not my argument. What I said, and what you keep dodging, is this: you cannot dismiss the enormous contribution of small businesses, traders, and entrepreneurs many of whom are Igbo and other non-Yoruba Nigerians to Lagos’ economic rise. Whether it’s Alaba, Ladipo, Balogun, or Computer Village, these are multi-billion naira ecosystems, a value chain that pay taxes, create jobs, and generate revenue not "petty trade."
Second, your claim that Igbos only began “mass migrating” to Lagos after the FCT moved to Abuja is a lie and an embarrassingly lazy one. Igbos were living, trading, and even owning property in Lagos long before independence. In fact, they were among the earliest and most prominent non-Yoruba settlers in Lagos Island, Yaba, and Surulere.
Third, Lagos being a trade centre long before independence is not in dispute and no one ever said Lagos was desolate. What you’re refusing to accept is that Lagos became a megacity not just because of colonial roads or Awolowo’s cocoa policy, but because people from across Nigeria poured in, invested, worked, and turned it into the economic powerhouse it is today. Infrastructure doesn’t build prosperity on its own, people do.
You talk about Awolowo, cocoa money, and colonial footprints as if they magically built the Lagos skyline. But post-independence Lagos, the one with corporate towers, industrial estates, global investment, and a massive consumer base was fueled by a national influx of human capital, business, and labour.
Fourth, your talk of “benevolence” is insulting. Nigerians are not second-class citizens in Lagos or anywhere else in this country. People don’t need to beg Yoruba approval to live or thrive in a federal republic. Nobody forced anyone to come to Lagos, they came because it’s their constitutional right to live and do business anywhere in Nigeria. Lagos didn’t do Nigeria a favour by being the capital, it benefited immensely from being the political and economic centre of the country for decades.
And let’s talk taxes: over 65% of Lagos' IGR comes from PAYE and corporate taxes, not land levies or indigenes’ goodwill. Who pays these? Multinational companies, SMEs, private businesses run and staffed by Nigerians of all ethnicities. You act like Lagos was self-made, but without Nigeria its capital status, its population influx, its ports, its businesses, Lagos would be a glorified coastal town.
You also conveniently ignore that the port you're dismissing is a key economic driver, and yes, Igbo importers are a significant part of the Lagos port economy. No, they don’t own the port, but their volume of trade in electronics, auto parts, fashion, machinery rivals that of any other group, and those goods are sold across Lagos, Nigeria and West Africa. That’s not delusion, that’s fact.
Lastly, this “go and develop your region” nonsense is tribal bigotry dressed as advice. Development isn’t held back by traders or migrants it’s held back by bad governance, corruption, and the same ethnic gatekeeping you’re doing here. If you want balanced national growth, fight for it don’t scapegoat Nigerians for exercising their right to invest and prosper wherever they choose.
Lagos is Yoruba land nobody disputes that. But its success? That belongs to all Nigerians who built, lived, and bled for it. Your ancestors planted seeds, sure but it took the labour, taxes, and enterprise of a nation to grow the forest. You don’t own the fruits alone just because your people cleared part of the land centuries ago.
It’s 2025. Time to grow out of ethnic entitlement and join the rest of us in nation-building. If facts feel like insults, maybe it's your pride that’s too fragile. 😂😂😂😂typical of you lot, I don’t know how you clowns allude yourselves the power to know who is from Lagos and who’s is not from Lagos like Lagos is not part of yorubaland and now added to your biafla map and everything about Lagos get you clowns paranoid and aggressive 😂😂😂 Before you start crying let me educate you not like I owe you any explanation like I have most often time my state of origin seems to be a source of headache for you economic migrant. I’m proudly a yoruba man from Lagos and my paternal grandparents are both from Lagos, while my grandfather is from Lagos island of the Egba clan and my grandmother an Egun from badagry….the popular adekunle at ebute metta is my ancestor and most of the land in that axis was sold and also most land around that axis was given to the govt and even the popular panti police station was my family land and also most of the street named in that axis are baring names of my ancestors I won’t want to reveal much of my identity as this is a public forum and for security purpose. People like savage, William, vivour and slave returnee share same ancestry as mine and if you care to know my background and agbole, go to the Brazilian quarter on island, just to clear your ignorance😂😂😂 Now back to the topic, I never downplayed the contribution of other ethnic nationalities resident in Lagos but trying to correct the warped narrative painted by you lot to allude the develop of Lagos to economic migrants from other parts of the country while failing to acknowledge the contribution and development of Lagos which was started by the Yorubas. And I also made mention the contribution of the colonial master which help to reshape the foundation of Lagos as a commercial city. Lagos history can’t be complete without stating the foundation laid by how ancestors and the larger Lagos has always being under the western region govt and just like I outlined earlier most of the infrastructure was developed by the western region govt from the proceeds of Cocoa money so I wonder where you clowns get this notion that Lagos was developed majorly by migrants and oil money when Lagos had already being a developed territory outside Nigeria before the amalgamation of Nigeria. We already had land lines, and other infrastructure before Nigeria so how is that hard for you to comprehend? The major driver of the economy of Lagos are the manufacturing industries scattered around Lagos and also PAYE. Dangote refinery alone generates more taxes for the govt than all your 2*2 shop combined and not to mention other industries domiciled in Lagos which are largely controlled by the Yorubas because we control the formal sector and are know as captains of industries. Like i earlier posted, taxes from SMes are mostly collect by local govt and have nothing to do with states that’s why sometimes when you traders go out of line like not complying with sanitary and environmental laws your markets are closed and such as ladipo and Alaba have been closed down severally while your red cap chief come and beg for it to be reopened, if govt really depend on your taxes do you think they will closing your markets? Nwanne leave emotions and face the reality, ibos are largely traders and the need the population and purchasing power of most Yorubas which are largely your customers to survive and the simple truth is just that you lot need Lagos more than it need you and you lot are the major beneficiaries of one Nigeria, the day that cease to exist, then you will understand better how Lagos as been instrumental to the survival of ibos |
Politics › Re: ‘Heartbreaking’: Deputy Speaker Kalu On Lagos Trade Fair Demolitions by SonOfDSoil01: 7:42am On Oct 05, 2025 |
Ofunaofu: Your rant is a classic case of selective history laced with tribal arrogance. You claim others are ignorant, yet you reduce Lagos’ growth to Awolowo, colonialists, and Yoruba benevolence, conveniently ignoring the decades of pan-Nigerian input that turned it into a megacity.
Yes, Lagos existed before independence. Yes, it was a port and trade centre. But that’s not the debate. The modern Lagos the economic heartbeat of Nigeria didn’t spring up from Awolowo’s cane fields or colonial footprints. It was built by the collective sweat of Nigerians from every region: Aworis who are indigenous Lagosians, Yorubas, Igbo, Hausa, Efik, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Tiv, Ijaw, etc
You sneer at “2x2 shops or petty trade as if informal trade, import/export businesses, and small enterprises (SME's) aren't the backbone of Lagos’ commercial life. Who runs Alaba? Computer Village? Ladipo? Balogun? Who fills the markets, warehouses, and ports? These aren’t mere shops. They’re multimillion-naira value chains that feed into the Lagos economy and enrich the IGR you now thump your chest over.
Lagos doesn’t fund itself with Awolowo’s ghost. Over 65% of Lagos’ tax revenue comes from PAYE salaries paid by businesses established and operated by Nigerians, Yorubas and non-Yoruba alike. Many of the top corporate tax contributors you reference are run, staffed, or owned by people from across Nigeria. So yes, “our taxes” helped shape Lagos into what it is.
You can romanticize history, spread propaganda all you want, but the fact remains: Lagos is not thriving because of one ethnic group’s effort it's thriving despite tribal divisions. That’s the real story. People didn’t migrate to Lagos because they were “granted permission” they came because they had a right to, as Nigerians, to live and contribute wherever opportunity calls.
Finally, the whole “go and develop your region” trope is tired. Development is a function of investment, infrastructure, and policy not insults hurled online. If you care so much about regional equity, demand better governance nationwide instead of wishing for ethnic ghettos in a supposedly united country.
It’s 2025. Stop preaching ownership over land like it’s a war. Lagos is Yorubaland, there's no debate about that, but its soul belongs to Nigeria. If that truth burns, perhaps it’s your prejudice not your pride that needs checking. even after this long epistle, you still ended up saying nothing. My last submission was to set the record straight and the trajectory of the success story of Lagos which you mischievous clowns have always used a blanket statement to describe Lagos development while we know Lagos as the former FCT which in local parlance is referred to as eko and the boundary ended at fadeyi in yaba. Our ancestors were deliberate about the development of Lagos while yours were no where to be found. The development of Lagos started with the Yorubas and it has always been a trade centre which attracted migrants from all over and including foreigners. The colonial master saw Lagos as a good geographical location which was why it was largely developed by them and when the slave trade was abolished, most of the slave returnees which were largely Yorubas of various Yoruba sub group which my ancestors belonged to developed the place. Lagos was far ahead of Nigeria and the development made it attractive which after the almagamation of Nigeria was then the choice of govt to be the FCT relaying on existing structures which was then further developed. Nigeria was not doing Lagos a Favor rather Lagos was doing Nigeria a Favor and we never asked for the FCT to be cited in our land. The rest of the mainland today was under the western region govt and proceed of cocoa was used to set the foundation of the success story of Lagos no matter how hard you try to rewrite the history of Lagos and Yorubaland in alluding the success story to your 2*2 shops, it won’t fly. You ibos started your mass migration to Lagos even after the FCT was relocated to Abuja and it also witnessed even more development even though nay sayers thought it will crumble nd that’s was because of the administrative skills and leadership of the Yorubas who have hold firm to the political and traditional structures. Like I said earlier the safe and conducive environment provided by the Yorubas and also have the highest purchasing power to buy whatever you sell due to the high number of industries and other opportunities is what attracted you economic migrants to Lagos and the port you made reference to is just a delusional statement made my you clowns because the port is not just used by ibos but also manufacturing companies domiciled in Lagos and also most landlocked neighbouring countries bordering Lagos so you clowns you stop deluding yourself that you are responsible for most of the import at the Lagos port and there is not statistics to show you account for the highest import at Lagos port. And finally if you clowns fill you are responsible for the thriving economy of Lagos, why not relocate your investment back to your region and let see who is actually benefiting from Lagos l |
