Ofunaofu:
Your rant is a classic case of selective history laced with tribal arrogance. You claim others are ignorant, yet you reduce Lagos’ growth to Awolowo, colonialists, and Yoruba benevolence, conveniently ignoring the decades of pan-Nigerian input that turned it into a megacity.

Yes, Lagos existed before independence. Yes, it was a port and trade centre. But that’s not the debate. The modern Lagos the economic heartbeat of Nigeria didn’t spring up from Awolowo’s cane fields or colonial footprints. It was built by the collective sweat of Nigerians from every region: Aworis who are indigenous Lagosians, Yorubas, Igbo, Hausa, Efik, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Tiv, Ijaw, etc

You sneer at “2x2 shops or petty trade as if informal trade, import/export businesses, and small enterprises (SME's) aren't the backbone of Lagos’ commercial life. Who runs Alaba? Computer Village? Ladipo? Balogun? Who fills the markets, warehouses, and ports? These aren’t mere shops. They’re multimillion-naira value chains that feed into the Lagos economy and enrich the IGR you now thump your chest over.

Lagos doesn’t fund itself with Awolowo’s ghost. Over 65% of Lagos’ tax revenue comes from PAYE salaries paid by businesses established and operated by Nigerians, Yorubas and non-Yoruba alike. Many of the top corporate tax contributors you reference are run, staffed, or owned by people from across Nigeria. So yes, “our taxes” helped shape Lagos into what it is.

You can romanticize history, spread propaganda all you want, but the fact remains: Lagos is not thriving because of one ethnic group’s effort it's thriving despite tribal divisions. That’s the real story. People didn’t migrate to Lagos because they were “granted permission” they came because they had a right to, as Nigerians, to live and contribute wherever opportunity calls.

Finally, the whole “go and develop your region” trope is tired. Development is a function of investment, infrastructure, and policy not insults hurled online. If you care so much about regional equity, demand better governance nationwide instead of wishing for ethnic ghettos in a supposedly united country.

It’s 2025. Stop preaching ownership over land like it’s a war. Lagos is Yorubaland, there's no debate about that, but its soul belongs to Nigeria. If that truth burns, perhaps it’s your prejudice not your pride that needs checking.
grin even after this long epistle, you still ended up saying nothing. My last submission was to set the record straight and the trajectory of the success story of Lagos which you mischievous clowns have always used a blanket statement to describe Lagos development while we know Lagos as the former FCT which in local parlance is referred to as eko and the boundary ended at fadeyi in yaba.

Our ancestors were deliberate about the development of Lagos while yours were no where to be found. The development of Lagos started with the Yorubas and it has always been a trade centre which attracted migrants from all over and including foreigners. The colonial master saw Lagos as a good geographical location which was why it was largely developed by them and when the slave trade was abolished, most of the slave returnees which were largely Yorubas of various Yoruba sub group which my ancestors belonged to developed the place.

Lagos was far ahead of Nigeria and the development made it attractive which after the almagamation of Nigeria was then the choice of govt to be the FCT relaying on existing structures which was then further developed. Nigeria was not doing Lagos a Favor rather Lagos was doing Nigeria a Favor and we never asked for the FCT to be cited in our land.

The rest of the mainland today was under the western region govt and proceed of cocoa was used to set the foundation of the success story of Lagos no matter how hard you try to rewrite the history of Lagos and Yorubaland in alluding the success story to your 2*2 shops, it won’t fly.

You ibos started your mass migration to Lagos even after the FCT was relocated to Abuja and it also witnessed even more development even though nay sayers thought it will crumble nd that’s was because of the administrative skills and leadership of the Yorubas who have hold firm to the political and traditional structures.

Like I said earlier the safe and conducive environment provided by the Yorubas and also have the highest purchasing power to buy whatever you sell due to the high number of industries and other opportunities is what attracted you economic migrants to Lagos and the port you made reference to is just a delusional statement made my you clowns because the port is not just used by ibos but also manufacturing companies domiciled in Lagos and also most landlocked neighbouring countries bordering Lagos so you clowns you stop deluding yourself that you are responsible for most of the import at the Lagos port and there is not statistics to show you account for the highest import at Lagos port.

And finally if you clowns fill you are responsible for the thriving economy of Lagos, why not relocate your investment back to your region and let see who is actually benefiting from Lagos l undecided

Go to Papa Ajao and Ladipo and see what they've turned that beautiful environment to, when I was a kid, we had the likes of Ebenezer Obey, IK Dairo, Orlando Owoh... it was carved out of notorious Mushin. If you visit Papa-Ajao now you will feel sorry, it has become sparepartsjungleand den of kidnappers and robbery gangs.
If Lagos state government starts bulldozing the iron-jungle at Ladipo now, someone will start crying foul. Why can't we follow rules
undecided you are right. I have a friend that live in ladipo which was majorly a residential area, but when this people came, they turned the whole place to a market and mess up everywhere even my friends family had to sell of there property because it was no longer conducive to raise a family. I just hope the state govt clean up Lagos because this economic migrant are willingly to turn everywhere to a market just as it is with computer village a purely residential area undecided

Myopic 'baba wa ni president'. people would not understand the power of time. The Lagos you are dragging, will fulfil its destiny as a 'no man's land' developed by Nigeria and Nigerians, belonging to Nigeria and Nigerians, for as long as Nigeria exists as a country.

So don't worry.

We will do our worst, however long it takes.
😂😂 indeed, music to my hears…..the no man’s land that Yorubas are in control of all the political and traditional powers that’s why they keep making you cry yet you have not grown the balls to return back home…empty noise makers undecided

That was what we were told in kano, kaduna and maiduguri. It is funny how people don't realize who made Lagos what it is presently today until the day Lagos crashes like kano and kaduna did .

A simple change in the business model of igbos will put Lagos where it should be.
undecided stop crying and take your investment back to sad yeast and let see how Lagos Will crash..you clowns came to Lagos with nothing and benefited from the opportunities in Lagos to make money and when the city as blessed you, then pride sets in and you think without you Lagos won’t survive. We have been hearing this stale line for long yet you keep deserting your unproductive region for Lagos undecided

Yes, Lagos is in Yorubaland and that didn’t stop it from being built by the blood, sweat, and brilliance of Nigerians from every region. Nobody denies the land existed, we’re saying it was turned into a megacity by the contributions of many, not just the ancestors of people shouting 'it's ours' on the internet.

You claim people never crossed River Niger' yet it’s their taxes, investments, businesses, labour, and talent that helped Lagos evolve from colonial port to economic powerhouse. If you're so pressed about people ‘coming to develop Lagos’, ask what Lagos would be today if everyone simply stayed in their ‘neck of the woods.

Your problem isn’t history. It’s that some of us know it better than your slogans can defend. Try facts next time, not propaganda laced with bitterness.
grin a whole load of gibberish….most of you clowns re just ignorant about the history of Lagos and you all come online to display your ignorance. We have heard this tired lines severally.

Lagos has always been a trade centre and has always attracted migrants from all over the country and also foreigners. Lagos has the former FCT was largely developed by the colonial masters even before the discovery of oil. The FCT which you clown always love to lay claims to ended at fadeyi in yaba while the rest of what makes up Lagos today was under the western region govt and most of the infrastructure was developed by the late sage Awolowo including the ilupeju and ikeja industrial estate.

Lagos was far ahead of Nigeria. All the so called taxes you talked about came from the industries and PAYE and not your 2*2 shops scattered everywhere which are collected by the local govt and not state govt. Lagos attracted economic migrants from across the country base on the working system and opportunities in Lagos which was as a result of deliberate planning and development made by the government and people.

Even after the FCT was moved to Abuja and returned back to the Yorubas, was when most of you ibos started migrating to Lagos and you already met it developed and not a desolate place and you all benefited from the benevolence of the people because made gave you a Safe and conducive environment to do your business. No one forced you to come and pay taxes in Lagos while you can pay those taxes in your region so you can develop the place. After all you don’t expect govt to provide you infrastructure and other services for free while you make your money here doing business even in developed countries taxes are the major source of revenue so stop talking like you doing us a favour and btw below are major companies that pay then most taxes and not your petty trade business undecided

When I see comments like this, I genuinely regret and wonder where some of you crawl out from. Lagos is telling who to ‘do their worst’? You beat your chest and, yet your family doesn’t even own a plot the size of a Keke parking spot in Lagos. Lagos was built by sweat, sacrifice, and the hands of people from all over Nigeria and beyond. Some of you only stumbled into Lagos yesterday, clinging to a Yoruba surname like it’s a deed of ownership, shouting entitlement as if history started with you. Calm down being loud doesn’t make you right, it just makes you noisy.
undecided NwOSU stop crying….we are tired of this stale line of everyone built Lagos, does it take away the fact that it is still yorubaland? Even those of you that have never crossed river Niger bridge will be in your cave claiming to develop Lagos like anyone forced you to come and develop Lagos while your neck of wood is largely undeveloped undecided

Back then, the South West used to be known for educational excellence & sophistication due to the legacy of PA Awolowo on free foreign education & exposure to his people.

Since 1999 till date, Bulaba has installed Obas with krim!nal pasts, his D. cartel members as governors, introduced Agberoism, dagbo, Oluwole certifications & thuggery into the region which has lost it's "sophisticated glory".

I'm glad the wise ones are waking up.
grin stop crying….SW is still the most educated region and education capital of the country today and that won’t change anytime soon. Tinubu in his 8years reign was able to set Lagos on the path of glory which we are all witnessing its success story today and also groomed future leader which have steered the wheel of the success story of Lagos making it the 5th largest economy in Africa and the most developed state and a destination choice of you economic migrants undecided

We will vote for him again to continue the work he as started at the federal by revamping our economy after years of decay and it won’t happen overnight undecided

mention it, and don't make it seem like other ethic groups are littered all over the SW

Lagos was a former capital
A cosmopolitan city

Don't you think other tribes will accuse of same in Abuja, the current FCT
undecided you better go to Ibadan and other major cities in Yorubaland and see the numbers of your migrants ibo blodas scattered everywhere. After Lagos, Ibadan is the next big town with the highest numbers of ibo migrants. You clowns make it sound like ibos only migrate to Lagos while we know that’s false and btw Lagos ceased to be the FCT 33yrs ago which only ended at yaba while the rest of mainland of what make up Lagos today was solely under the western region govt of Awolowo and Lagos being the former FCT doesn’t take away the fact that it is a purely Yorubaland with yoruba tradition and Customs, get that fact right undecided
