Every car owner should read his owners manual to identify the oil his engine requires.
Multigrade oils have a complex behaviour. I wont teach you that here.

The recommendations by oems are also not strictly about engine health. Some also factor in fuel economy in order to meet to EPA mandates and other European standards. You ought to know this.

Fake oils kill engines faster than minor differences in oil weights. An engine which has 5w30 recommended for it will run perfectly fine with 10w30. The difference in viscosity between the 5 and 10 in our environment is miniscule and inconsequential. The oil will still flow fine with almost the same pressure and flow rate at cold start. We are in the tropics!!!

Cars driven in nigerian cities qualify for "severe driving" conditions and as such should be service even more often than recommended.
We drive in dusty, hot, humid conditions and idle a lot in traffic. No one accounts for that idling time in traffic. It doesnt show on the odometer which we often use to calculate OCI. A lot of car owners exceed the OCI even before their usual 3 month oil change routine!!!

OP was merely trying to show the advantages of synthetic oils over mineral oils. Stick to that.

Owners should buy engine oils with the recommended API rating and weight. It doesnt have to be synthetic if synthetic is not recommended.

And lastly, note that there is a difference between recommended and required. One is optional, the other is mandatory.

That you repair replace range rover engines (terribly unreliable engines i might add) doesnt make you an authority on oils (i needed to repeat this).

So you still want the lessons for free? All Toyota engines are gasoline engine oil only. Therefore any oil termed SN/Cf is not required or recommended for it. In a 2010 Lexus Rx 350, the oil recommended and required is 0w20, whether you are in Maiduguri or in Alaska, the oil is universal. New cars sold in the country perish easily than bought 10 years ago in the US. Nigerian auto market is not the same as Egypt, SA, European. Since you are not talking again, make I go finish the engine I am currently working on.

Yes I agree 100% they have perfected the fake to the point that meself can't tell the difference.. do you know that the you can scan the barcode on the fake . And it will go through, the only difference is that if the gallon is 0w20 it might show 5w30 .. it is really crazy of the level of perfection

I once ordered for a Mercedes gear oil from Trade fair for the 7 speed and when I scanned it, it showed brake fluid. I think we should advise motorists to scan the oil before buying even if they are lured by the lower price. Even the petrol station are selling adulterated oils in their stations. Na your job sha. Since Gazzuzz passed on, it is difficult to service engine with full chest. Do you sell Castrol?

They have perfected the difference. Many sellers on Jumia are selling both the fake and the real. The only difference is the price. The day that the price will be the same, that will be the end of good quality oil in the country. Protect your Pennzoil from them. See that oil that is formulated in the US and tested in Nigeria , God will deliver whoever uses the oil on their korope.

You will find Mobil 1 and Castrol edge extended performance for 35k on jumia and the real one is 85k and you will never know the difference until you open the gallon and find groundnut oil mixed with API SD 40 in the gallon. Jumia is no longer a credible source for good and quality oil because of their lack of quality control. If Nairaland is allowed to harbour these oils, it will go the way of Jumia as being unreliable. Dru 23 has been refined through the constant bombardment on his oils and now he does not bother with oils easily adulterated in the country.

It seems you are just looking for trouble with yourself. Face the oil. Castrol edge Euro oil is for which vehicle? Helix shell CT 3 and Mobil ESP is recommended for Toyota or Honda? When the ESP was introduced, it was recommended for Peugeot 508 because that was the closest to the Total Ineos which was not available then. I have not seen your input on the oil because you want to be given free lessons. I have never claimed to be an authority on oil but fixing range Rovers and rebuilding engines since 2014, I am experienced to talk about oil and the damage it is doing to our vehicles. Even the liqui Molly he posted, how many cars use 0w30? I only spoke for range rover brand and that Castrol edge in the thread might be suitable for 1976 range rover and not the 2025 oil requirements. You applaud the post because you have no idea what is required for a car to endure the vagaries of the Nigerian auto market. Lesson for today, Toyota Corolla 2008, show us which of these oils are recommended to be used for the Corolla? Show us any gasoline engine only oil in the list or...

Jesus is Lord and Paul always affirmed his Lordship in the beginning of all his epistles and made it more obvious in Ephesians 1 v 3 where we are to thank the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ . Revelation 19v 10 and Chapter 22 told us to worship no one but God. We have all turned aside and are worshiping the created instead of the Creator.
