Same old thread. New wine in old wine skin |
Boko Haram - Islam (North) MEND (SS), MASSOB (SE/SS), Akhwat Akwop (North), MOSOP (SS) - Christian OPC - mixed religion (SW). AGBEKOYA - mixed religion?? (SW) Pagans/traditionalists - who represents them ?On the basis of this, how will a religious war look like in Nigeria? The number may favor Christians, but does the acting?? |
jason123:But they are second hand, yes, no? Rejectees from obodo Oyibo ![]() |
100s of Second hand light rail trains for Lagos. I dey laff ohhh |
13volts:And Igbos do not build houses in the desertification-ravaged north, no? Those hausa/Fulani/Kanuri who have lived in Igboland for 20, 30, 40 years could have bought land when land was no issue. FYI, Yorubas own landed property in the south east; it is just a matter of how many Yorubas (who can afford to do so) live in the SE compared to how many Igbos (who can afford to do so) live in the SW. Abia State Government gave the cattle traders free land in Okigwe several years back; they have not been able to develop it. So please give cogent reasons why your people do not invest in Igboland. |
nagoma:Afraid? So all the present investments by Igbos in Igboland were done based on what? Talking about kidnapping, how many northerners have been kidnapped in Igboland? There is more kidnapping in SS than SE, yet Dangote invests in the SS and not the SE. Why is that so? Igbos are killed in their 100s every year in the North, has that stopped them from investing in the North? Are you sure you have any tenable excuse as to why northerners do not invest in Igboland? |
13volts: |
nagoma: nusdog:I wonder oh!!!. Ojukwu's father invested in the North (where Ojukwu was born) even when the ''mother of kidnapping has not been married''. Why did northerners in Igboland at that time not invest in Igboland? The first mayor of Enugu was an Hausa/Fulani (Alhaji Altine (please google); what did he invest in Igboland? |
lagcity:Hahahah!! That was so, so funny. Thanks. Hope we get an hausa (++Fulani/Kanuri) response on this one. |
lagcity:Going beyond Dangote, could you speculate as to why an average hausa living in Igboland does not own a house in Igboland even when they can afford to build one? Yorubas do, that I know. |
lagcity:So in essence Dangote has no investment in the East, although he makes money via Igbos who distribute his goods. Thank you. |
alj_harem:There is a big difference between employing Igbos living outside Igboland and investing in Igboland. It is a matter of commitment, like Igbos have committed their investments all over Nigeria. Do you get it? BTW, do you see from you own links that Dangote has no clear investment in Igboland? Please get more facts. This is not really just about Dangote. It is about the lack of northern investments in Igboland. |
lagcity:There are 16+ million people in the East (if we consider the fake census data) that can buy from any one or more of Dangote's products, can you hazard a guess as to why Dangote will not see profit in the East? For e.g., will he be paying his Igbo employees more than he pays those in Sokoto, Lagos, etc thereby incurring more expenses? Will Igbo youths burn down his business? Is the power situation in the East any worse than elsewhere, so that he has to use generators more? Do Igbo govts tax investors any more than taxes paid in other places? I need ideas. Thanks. |
Abagworo:Thanks. That should put paid to the claims that people do not invest in the East because of no returns or profitability. Those who did make their profits and that is why the private businesses there are doing okay, and in some case even better compared to elsewhere. I also somehow agree with someone who stated here that the inability of Igbos themselves to invest massively in their land is a discouragement for non-Igbos to do so. My questions now are (1) what primed Igbos even before independence to neglect investing in Igboland and instead doing so elsewhere? (2) Why did later-day Igbo investors take the same approach? (3) What can be done to stem it? (4) Is it just merely a coincidence such that Igbos not investing in Igboland are those who live outside Igboland? (5) Do we have Igbos resident permanently in Igboland but whose investments are largely outside Igboland? |

lagcity:Does Dangote (again using him as an example) also belong in that group of northern business men you describe? |
Dangote Group Supports Private Sector Development in enuguWhere are the Dangote investments listed in these links? Like other investors, Dangote group can attend trade fairs and support anything, but do they have investments in Igboland? Those links do not say so. Where are links for Danjuma and Saraki? |
ANAMBRA AREA SALESHhaha!! I put it to you that this is a publicity stunt. The fact that you have c/o in the address tells you that Chief Mbonu is just adistributor for Dangote product, just like I had envisaged. Look at the other addresses. They state clearly ''Dangote Flour Mills PLC'' |
alj_harem:Please post the link (verifiable evidence) for these claims. Thank you |
ndu_chucks:Does that (boldened) work in Nigeria the way it does in the US? I know that the FEC meets every once a week to discus and allocate resources. From what we read, we have seen how they share the money- almost always every region is touched, piecemealy. The systematic decimation of federal presence in the East began with the military regimes where no FEC meeting is needed to share allocations. It will take a fiat (not a naija-type FEC democracy) to redress the mess and let the East catch up with the rest of the country per federal presence. BTW, the same scenario as in Igboland plays out in Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa where little or no fed presence can be felt. |
ndu_chucks:But this (boldened) cannot be discussed in isolation. Has crime reduced in other parts of Nigeria where you want Igbos to develop less? What is the employment situation in those places compared to Igboland? We need to get the big picture before we can conclude. On other points, yes you are largely correct. I am also fully aware of the moves for improved power generation by some Igbos. But note that Nnaji is not working for Igbos; he is working for Nigeria whose president is not even Igbo. So he can only do so much. Unless you are insinuating that people in power should work for their people and disregard others. |
ndu_chucks:Okay!! Practice what you preach by not calling anyone olodo. Anyways, I will like a direct response to my point above. Ignore the name-calling for now. Thanks Some of us have been hammering along this line in the past, here on NL and in real life. You may well contribute to this point which is somewhat similar https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-770063.0.html |
maclatunji And while providing an example, do well to distinguish between a Dangote-owned investment and an Igbo-owned distributorship for Dangote products. They are different. Does Dangote own any factory, retail outlet, bank or transport company physically present in Igboland? |
Ndu Chuks (fake Igbo man): Except for your mention of crime (because Igboland is not the most criminal part of Nigeria- other areas that you want Igbos to stop ''developing'' are also kidnapping and ritual infested), I find it hard to argue with your initial post. However, I think there is far more than meets the eye on the penchant of Igbos to invest almost anywhere else except in Igboland. This has been happening even before crime or unemployment became an issue. Recall that Ojukwu's father, the first Nigerian millionaire had most of his investments outside Igboland. Many notable Igbos were born outside Igboland where their parents resided and did business even when there was no competition from other Igbos. I believe it has to do with some kind of culture that crept in when Nigeria came together as a country and Igbos began exploring far-flung places. That culture must be reevaluated at this time. |
maclatunji:If I knew (after checking) I would not open this thread. |
Eko Ile:Okay!! Sit yourself. I just don't want to derail this thread. So let's leave that for now. |
maclatunji:Which company/factory etc?. |
There are hausa people who have lived in Igboland for 20-40 years; they have made money in their money-changing business and all that (which also I do not consider an investment because it is simply a matter of putting their currencies in their bags and off they go), yet they do not own a single house of their own. Contrast that to a mere Igbo trader in far-flung Jigawa who owns the house where he lives, and that after only a few years. These fulani engaged in trading in cattle in Okigwe, despite the millions they make, do not own houses in Okigwe. They still live in tents. The gov gave them land to develop their business and its still lying fallow. What is the agenda? Because I believe it is not for nothing |
karl max:Cows, goats and sheep may appear as investment but recall that these animals are moved about in an out of Igboland. as is also the case in Yorubaland and other parts where you have better grazing opportunities than the North. They are grazed in the north, south and west. If you tag a specific cow you saw today in Enugu and if that cow survives the butchers knife, you will most likely see that same cow in Benue or Kogi in the next few months. How is that an investment in Igboland? Do you rate a mobile business as an investment in any of the locations such a business passes through? |
13volts:Yorubas do invest in Igboland. We have shown ample evidence here in the past unless you are as new as 2011 on NL. There are businesses in Igboland that only hausa/fulani/kanuri, etc conduct, with no competition from Igbos: money-changing, suya and cattle trading to mention a few. These people live and make money there going back several years. Why do they not at least build a concrete house where they can live as landlords? And, can you in your heart of hearts conclude correctly that Igbos are more diabolical in conducting their business practices than Hausa and Yoruba? If you say so how did you arrive at that conclusion? |
Eko Ile:Is that also English language? Na waoh for some educated illiterates. |
