Okay here is the deal. I got this info straight from the horse's mouth. No more than a few non-Abians were affected in the exercise; may be some 1-5% of the workforce. Which makes it insignificant (for the Government, but not for the affected, of course) but nonetheless unacceptable (the number is too low to make any difference). Why the gov will sack a few workers and then claim it will help pay minimum wage is beyond me. There is no such thing as 50% of the workforce in Abia comprising of non-Abians. It is a big, fat lie. The Governor is an incompetent nincompoop and the journalist who wrote that article is a blatant liar and a xenophobe. Except he got in via rigging, all those who voted him in should be ashamed of themselves Long live Alaigbo. |

Politics / Middle Belt Group Warns Core North Over Jos, Others by SouthEast1: 2:25am On Sep 16, 2011 |
Middle belt group warns over Jos, others Published on 15 September 2011 with 3 comments [Post a Comment] RAYMOND GUKAS, Jos The Middle Belt Dialogue, (MBD), a socio-cultural affiliation of all minority ethnic groups of northern Nigeria, has threatened fire-for-fire with other northern based groups that are bent on fomenting trouble in the region. Also, it is demanding from government, the contents of "Wikileaks ‘leaks’ "to clarify for us the revelation that government has set free all those who were arrested for planting bombs and had even confessed to killings in the name of religion and politics" It gave this warning in a media briefing, just as President Goodluck Jonathan is mandating the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief Air Marshall Oluseyi Petinrin to take over internal security in Plateau state which has been going through security challenges for a while now. The MBD said it has to come up with this warning so as to draw the attention of those behind the killings and bombings in parts of the north to note that "no single group has the monopoly of violence. Our silence and dependence on government does not mean that we are not capable of defending ourselves" Addressing the media in his office, the Plateau state co-ordinator of MBD, Hon. Aminu Zang disclosed that MBD has noted with concern that in Plateau state in particular, the mass murder of villagers by Hausa\Fulani militia has now reached a frightening dimension and that must stop. He noted further that the goals "of these jihadist is to drive them (indigenes) from their fertile ancestral lands "He wondered why the middle belt was being treated as if its not part of the north but yet each time the Hausa\Fulani will use it in order to achieve their selfish agenda. In particular, the hatred towards Goodluck Jonathan during the pre-election period and even now, has shown that these crises being witnessed in the northern part was a ploy to make the country ungovernable for him, which they said it won’t work. According to MBD, what the Boko Haram sect is planning is to cause a state of total insecurity, social chaos and underdevelopment in Nigeria to give its backers enough reason for the destabilization of the government because the far north was against the Presidency. "The hatred for the new government is manifest by deranged groups, who want sharia form of government imposed on the entire country. Anything short of this and Nigeria can as well burn", Zang stressed. It then called on the federal government to show "genuine commitment to protecting lives and property of Nigerians and securing the middle belt region". Further, it stated that the "great losers in the end of this barbarism would be the entire north, because as long as the north believe that terror is the best means to force its minorities to support it, the more it misses the mark" even as it declared its beginning its 2015 campaigns for the Presidential election and has no doubt it will produce the next President "GOD’S" grace. |

We also know that even from outside the South East, one group of people that gave us most of the votes we have in some of the states in the North are Igbo." But that is the truth. Same also for Igbos in Lagos. We must attempt to be truthful always, no matter whose ox is gored. |

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and other agencies are involved in the blockade operation against Gaddafi loyalists who may want to flee into Nigeria. The government’s action became necessary, following the revelation that some Nigerians are Generals in the troubled Libyan Armed Forces. But the fate of such Generals remains unknown, considering the rapid loss of ground by the Gaddafi camp. The loyalists of the deposed dictator, it is said, prefer to seek refuge in Algeria, Niger and Chad. In line with its pre-emptive plans, the government specifically ordered that security surveillance against Gaddafi’s loyalists should be intensified in some Northern states, such as Borno, Katsina, Kebbi, Yobe, Kaduna, Sokoto and Kano. A source, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent, said security agencies have mounted surveillance in border towns and cities with Nigeria, such as N’Djamena, Zinder, Maradi, and Dosso, among others. The source said: “From intelligence reports, no one doubts the fact that these Gaddafi loyalists may be hiding in some desert enclaves not far away from Nigeria. But we are up to the task. “We are all engaged in a total blockade operation against Gaddafi’s men. It is a 24/7 mandate. “Besides the Immigration Service, all military formations close to Niger and Chad, in particular, have been reinforced to checkmate the incursion of Gaddafi’s men. “I think there is no cause for alarm in any way as far as checkmating Gaddafi is concerned.” NIS spokesman Joachim Olumbah, a Chief Superintendent, said: “So far, we do not have any reliable information that is indicative of the infiltration of this country by Gaddafi’s loyalists. “If there is any such development, we would get to know in less than five minutes. “But we have been asked not to be caught unawares. The Immigration Service and all security agencies are on the watch-out for these loyalists of Gaddafi. “All our men and security agencies have been placed on the alert and asked to be more watchful of movement in and out of the country.” A diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “It may interest you that we have some Nigerians, from the Northern part, in the Libyan Armed Forces. They have even attained the status of General. “Although some of these Generals might have naturalised, they are still in touch with their roots in Nigeria. “This discovery might have caused some anxiety over alleged infiltration of Nigeria by Gaddafi’s loyalists.” On the fate of the Generals, the source added: “The Transitional National Council of Libya will determine that; it is an internal affair.” |

My reply was to South East, who wanted to insinuate that Abia has things Anambra lacks, eg, land, mineral etc. Onlytruth, Do you mind showing me where I compared Abia and Anambra? On what basis would I do that when I do not even know what state you come from or what states where affected by the Orji action. You have been called Onlylies many times in this forum; I AM FORCING MYSELF NOT TO AGREE WITH THOSE WHO SEE YOU THAT WAY. Do you really know who South-East was here on nairaland? Otherwise, you will not make that snide remark about my user name. BELOW ARE THE COMMENTS I MADE ABOUT ABIA Abia has many things going for it; It is less populated than other Igbo states minus Ebonyi; it has one of the lowest poverty levels in Nigeria; it has the second (or third) highest literacy level in Nigeria; it has median quantity of arable land in Igboland, only second to Ebonyi and Enugu. It has one of the hardest working and industrious human beings that walk planet earth. It has oil and other natural raw materials. It just needs a little push and it will get going. As soon as we do away with Orji and get a competent Gov, see how things unfold. I do not think this redress will worsen Abia's situation. Thank you |

Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 9:00pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth: My friend, it takes a drastic act to clean up a mess. If this is the harbinger to the cleaning up of the indigeneship mess, so be it. May be when every other Nigerian working in other states civil service are fired, we will then all sit down and talk about how to abolish indigeneship. |

Onlytruth: Can you at least answer my questions? How did most of the kidnappers in Anambra become Abia indigenes? Nobody has sent anyone packing from Abia; the Gov simply redressed a long-standing anomaly. I agree he should have done it more subtly. |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:38pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth: Therein lies the problem: understanding. He cannot feel that other Igbos are making money in Abia more than others because those he sacked are civil servants whose salaries will not be different from those of their Abia equivalents. Got it? BTW, how did you draw the conclusion that those sacked are all Igbos? Did you read about the Yoruba man in the first article? I know people from Akwa Ibom working in Abia State. |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:34pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Abia should not, cannot and must never be for Abians only. But 50% of Abia State's workforce should not, cannot and must not come from outside Abia. 20% is okay. |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:32pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth: As we speak, many are happy in Abia about this. And how did you arrive at your own conclusion that those non-Abians are more educated than Abians or that most kidnappers in Anambra are from Abia? |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:28pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Those crying wolf here must be those whose brothers dominated Abia workforce. Now the Gov wants to redress the anomaly. I support him to the extent I have stated here. Let's see data for how many Abians work in other states. |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:26pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth: If you think Abians are less educated than other Igbos, even when JAMB/other literacy records stare you in the face, then I think I know whom you are in real life? I have squared up with such parochial argument in the past. |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:23pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
afam4eva: Nobody dreams such a dream more than me. But first, this particular anomaly (a whopping 50% of Abia workforce not coming from that state) has to be redressed. I have nothing personal to gain here; I do not live anywhere near Nigeria. |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:16pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth: Now he wants to give them (Abia kidnappers in Anambra) jobs so that they wont kidnap again in Anambra and you see something wrong with that? |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:14pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth: Do you support that 50% of the state workforce of Abia will be composed of non-Abians when this appears not to be the case in other states? Are those people in Abia who are happy with what their Gov. did fools, in your eyes? |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:06pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
afam4eva: That is the bottom line. We can easily link this to the high crime rate in Abia where most of the criminals are actually indigenes. If I may ask, how many Abians could be working in state ministries in Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Ebonyi and Cross River, all neighboring states? |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 8:00pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth: Let's get the numbers right before I can condemn. If 50 % is correct, then there is no chance in hell I can condemn him for this particular action. He is not my fan/ I am not his fan, and I do not support his other incompetencies. Onlytruth, I can tell you straight off that you will not find more than 1, 2, 3 Igbos (Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi) working in any specific State Govt ministries outside Igboland. So there won''t be any earth-shaking backlash on the entire Igbo. Nobody here on NL is more Igbo than me. |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 7:52pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth: The Gov had said he expects a backlash and the jobs being left by non-indigenes in Abia will be filled by returnees. I read that also here on NL. Did you read what Abagworo wrote? I would like to know how many Abians work in state ministries in other neighboring states. |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 7:51pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth, In any Igbo-only country, indigeneship will be ABOLISHED, so this issue will not even arise |
Politics / Re: XXXXX by SouthEast1: 7:50pm On Sep 15, 2011 |
Onlytruth: Please read me more carefully, and see the extent of my support. I do not support that 50% of the state workforce of Abia will come from outside. If it is 20% I am cool with it; am also cool with employing some high-caliber workers from outside Abia, not cleaners and clerks. The 50% unemployed Abians displaced by other Nigerians are Igbos too, right? |
