KINGSPARO.COM reports that on 25th of October 2021, Buhari's led government launched Nigerian digital currency, E–Naira at the States House in Abuja.


The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN had earlier announced that President Muhammadu Buhari will on Monday (today) unveil the e-Naira.

KINGSPARO.COM recalls that the CBN had on September 30th suspended the launch of its digital currency, called e-Naira. The suspension of the launch was announced by CBN spokesman Osita Nwanisobi while speaking to newsmen in Abuja.

According to the CBN spokesperson, the rollout was suspended to allow other events slated for the country’s 61st independence anniversary to take place.

But in a statement on Saturday, Osita Nwanisobi stated that the e-Naira is now expected to be activated on Monday by the president. The CBN Director stated that the launching would take place at the States House, Abuja.

Coming to fulfillment, President Buhari has on Monday, declared the official use of the new era electronic version of the nation’s local paper currency.

Present at the unveiling were the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, Naija News understands.

The E-Naira will hold equal value with the paper currency and will be issued by the CBN.

Nigerian authorities say the currency is not intended to replace cash but will function as a safe and efficient alternative means of payment.

The eNaira will be a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), issued by the government, and it will have the same value as the paper, or fiat, currency.

It is understood that CBDCs is far different from cryptocurrencies in being regulated and therefore subject to banking laws. They are issued by a central authority and are therefore trusted by traders. The CBN issued its regulatory guidelines for the eNaira on 1 October.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said bandits can not be proscribed like the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB because of their lack of identity and affiliation to a group.

The Minister disclosed this while featuring on AIT’s Kaakaki programme.

He stressed that how bandits are treated is what matters and not about proscribing them. Mohammed said,

“You proscribe known groups with names. You can’t just proscribe an unknown group legally. Secondly, it’s not whether they are proscribed or not, it is the way they are treated.

“Does the government actually treat them with kid gloves? The answer is no.

“When a group is championing a course for the disintegration of Nigeria, a group like IPOB (that) does not even recognise Nigeria as a state, sets up its own army and thinks it is a sovereign state, is different from bandits and criminals.

Please, don’t compare apples and oranges.”

A police inspector attached to the Owerri Area command police headquarters, simply identified as Umoh, has shot and killed himself.

The incident happened on Wednesday in Owerri, the state capital.

A source at the Area command headquarters told our correspondent that the officer shot himself in a room in the quarters.

The development, our correspondent learnt, caused panic in the area.

According to the source, the inspector was on a special duty in the area.

The source said that though the riot policeman complained of being ill, nobody envisaged he was going to take his life.

The source said, “Mobile officers came back and one of them went to one of the rooms and locked it. The next minute, we heard a gunshot. When we approached the quarters, it was discovered that the door was locked. It was forced open and the mobile policeman was found dead. He shot himself in his stomach.”

Spokesperson Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed the incident.
