Honda accord 98 i4, I noticed oil leak over the weekend and decided to fix it. Since I was doing that I also took the opportunity to change my front right wheel bearing which was making lots of noise on speed. The oil leak was caused by leaking seal by the crankshaft.

I Immediately went to test the car after the fix, I noticed that I started having gear slips especially when changing gears from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4. This occurs when I accelerate hard, if I take accelerate up to 2000rpm the gear change is kind-of smooth . Prior to the the fix of that day I had no issues with gear selection/slipping.

What could have caused this new problem? Although I have noticed for a while a little vibration on the wheel just when I hit 40kmph.

The next day, I went back to complain to the mechanic, I told him to check if the inner cv keyed-in well when they fixed the fixed the wheel bearing. He said it entered the gear box well.

Did your mechanic remove the inner shaft when your engine is still hot, because if he did your gearbox is fried.

nope. It was cold. When he was Changing the wheel bearing he didn't remove the inner cv shaft. Moreso, the D light doesn't blink to show problem with the gearbox

But can a bad inner cv shaft cause gear slip?

LOL, I use my handbrake whenever I park my car. In fact I engage handbrake before putting the car to park. That way it saves the transmission from damaging when u park on a sloppy road. Have u ever wondered why it becomes difficult to get ur car out of park whenever u park on a slope? That's because the gear is resting downwards the slope and it can damage ur transmission whenever u force ur car out of park. But when u engage handbrake before going into park, the brakes are preventing the car from moving down the sloap rather than being stopped by the transmission, so when u want to get out of park it becomes easy. Try it and u will know ur handbrake is not for fashion.

boss, still on the p0420 code, I had a panel beater drop the cat converter for assessment, the cat wasn't blocked. So I had it re-fixed. I scanned, cleared codes afterwards but after driving for few miles, the code returned

What's the way forward now sir?

If exhaust is leaking before the downstream o2 sensor on bank1 it would throw a catalyst code. Is the exhaust leaking?

no, I've had a panel beater check for leakages

Stop reving engines that high, not good for engine health.

Replace catalytic converter on bank1 to solve the P0420 code.

Does a cat converter go bad that easily? It's not been 5 months I last changed it

I've noticed that my Honda-accord 98 doesn't rev above 5000. I have the p0420 code on. I bought a new cat converter in December last year, I've had a panel beater check and his reply was that the cat isn't blocked.

What could be the problem here?
