There is no way your catalytic converter was blocked without a code. But it should have no bad effect on engine you should still have a code from the downstream oxygen sensor

true. P0420 should have triggered when the cat was blocked

My choice will depend on usage/maintenance of both cars, some newer cars could be badly maintained that the older car could then pass as new

I don replace gear, it's been smooth driving within the city since the gear change, few days back, I decided to drive the car to kaduna. After about 2hours of driving, the gear began to act up, shifting was bad but drives well after the gear has shifted completely.

I've noticed now that the car drives fine when cold, but begins to misbehave after about 2hrs or so of driving (CEL comes up too at this time)

Walahi, not just for the recession, I prefer to do this myself. It gives me joy but for my size. Last time I went under, my belly was making contact with the oil sump. Couldn't stop from imagining the worst.
