Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode has reiterated that Danfo Buses will be removed from Lagos roads. Ambode said in a statement on Wednesday that "new buses befitting of a true cosmopolitan city" will be brought to the state. He said "We want Lagosians to move from one point to another comfortably and quickly so that productivity can grow. Our bus transport reform is not just about changing the buses". The governor stated that the initiative is an integrated reform which will see the introduction of modern bus terminals, lay-bys, delineation of lanes, road signalization and traffic management. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday resumed office duties at the Presidential villa after a 50-day medical vacation in the UK. The President Spent 3 hours in office, he resumed at exactly 11:00am and returned to his residence around 2:10pm, contrary to his usual closing time of 4:00pm and beyond, according to Daily Trust. Afrobeat star, Ayo Balogun popularly known as ‘WizKid’ has bagged an iHeart Radio Award for his collaboration on ‘One dance’ with American rapper, Drake and singer, Kyla. The international award which is his first for the year comes weeks after he failed to clinch a Grammy award for the same song. The song lost in the Album of the Year category at the Grammys 2017 for the album “Views”. Muslims and Christians in Taraba on Saturday held a joint special prayer for the speedy recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari who is currently on medical vacation in the United Kingdom. The prayer was held at the Jalingo Eid prayer ground. Speaking at the occasion, representative of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Rev. Baba Yerima, said praying for the well-being of Buhari was the duty of every “true believer”. He noted that the President had brought peace and unity to the country, and therefore urged the gathering to pray for leaders at all times. Ustaz Ali Babando, a Muslim cleric, said the President had been doing his best in tackling the country’s socio-economic challenges. He noted that it was in the interest of Nigerians to keep praying for Buhari, to enable him return home to consolidate on the fight against terror and corruption. Alhaji Sani Tullu, Secretary, Taraba Chapter, Buhari Support Organisation(BSO), said the BSO had organised prayer and rally in honour of the President whom he described as a visionary leader. “We salute the giant strides and landmark achievement of Buhari’s administration in his efforts to reposition the country. “We are particularly impressed with the performance of the administration in anti-corruption fight, decimating insurgents, revitalising Agriculture, Education and Health sectors,” he said. Award winning Nigerian Author, Chimamanda Ngozi- Adichie has been elected into the American Academy of Arts and Letters as a foreign honorary member. According to a press release by the Academy on http://artsandletters.org/pressrelease/2017-newly-elected-members/ the honorary members will be inducted at the annual induction in May. This induction will make Chimamanda the second Nigerian to be inducted into the academy after Wole Soyinka, a Nobel laureate, was inducted in 1986. The Academy explained that Chimamanda will be honoured alongside 14 others. “When the American Academy of Arts and Letters holds its annual induction and award ceremony in mid-May, Calvin Trillin, secretary, will induct fourteen members into the 250-person organisation and Yehudi Wyner, President will induct three foreign honorary members.” The objective of the Academy include to “foster and sustain an interest in Literature, Music, and the Fine Arts” by administering over 70 awards and prizes, exhibiting art and manuscripts, funding performances of new works of musical theatre, and purchasing artwork for donation to museums across the country. Some of her previous awards include, Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction 2007 (Half of a yellow Sun); The MacArthur Fellowship 2008 for Fiction and The PEN Open Book Award, 2007 (Half of a Yellow Sun).
