Good evening I have a 2009 accord with fault code P0341
acceleration seems sluggish also vehicle revs loud when you try to accelerate quickly.
I gave local Kazeem to look at he says it's kick down sensor but I'm not convinced.
Please possible solution.

Bought a new screen for my S10 and 2 shoes since the second week of lock down and I'm yet to be notified that items have gotten to Nigeria.
Please who has had items land naija since lockdown started because shipping was meant to take 3 weeks.

Here is how it works in a normal environment.

It you take the car to their shop with a problem they will charge you for diagnostic a fixed low price, then give you an estimate of what it will cost to fix it and you sign to agree to that estimate or you just pay for the diagnosis and walk away.

Now if you approve for the work to be done and they find some other problems that will call you to approve for those to be fixed because if you came to the shop with start up noise and the tech sees you need oil change and VTech work, opens the valve cover and the whole engine is covered in sludge they will recommend a new engine.

Hello, diagnosis is free with service. Will be able to quote once we know what is actually causing it. That code suggests a timing issue is most likely but they're are about 6-8 things that could be causing it hence the need for a proper diagnosis to quote.

Problem is 3 parts

1. Our fuel

2. Engine oil used.

3. Mechanics



Our fuel ends up clogging the catalytic converter of most Honda and ford vehicles, if not diagnosed properly plugs, coils, injectors, valves, piston rings, are tampered with looking for a fault.

A blocked catalyst will cause sever heat on the exhaust side of the head cylinder destroying valve stem seals and compression rings resulting in bluish smoke.

For diagnosing sluggish movement start with the catalytic converters.



Engine oil types.

The use of 20w50 in a Honda engine is unforgivable in a Honda engine, for some reason they just don't recover well from it, and switching back usually causes oil burn.

Wrong oils cause sludge, cause faster wear and tear within a short time.

Honda's have really good builds, and if you are the first Nigerian user with the right fluids, the only issue you should have in about 4-5 years is a blocked catalytic converter

Good evening once again .I just got the 09 accord

It's been less than 6 months in Nigeira
Firstly owner has used 20w-50 , I'm thinking of using Carol magnetic 5w30
Secondly I think catalyst was removed because exhaust sounds loud especially on start up from.cold and a look underneath shows work has been done, thirdly if feel vehicle isn't as sharp as it's supposed to be maybe that's why catalyst was removed ,but since I cleaned Vtec spool I feel theres an improvement with movement ,lastly the car throws P0341 on start up and theres rattle. Going through your quite above I will be needing professional help as this is a car I plan to use for a couple of years and an engine replacement is not an option

Honda Genuine power steering fluid and ATF-DW1 are the recommended fluids.
Make sure you get the original as the market has been flooded with clones from China

to access this, you need to take off the power steering pump and (very likely ) the self-adjusting tensioner
the strainer looks like this:

Tried to do it today but my 12 socket was to large . Will look for a slimmer one and try again.
After taking out the PS pump ,theres space on top but not below to access the second 10mm bolt

No it doesn't go into limp mode it revs past 3000rpm

also check confirm that engine timing is correct. May not be DIY.

Once lock down is over I will find competent hands better to spend small than ger a new engine .

Any history of engine disassembly?

None , but it seems the top has been opened before .
Engine sounds great and runs smoothly just for the lights that tend to come on and the power loss I think I'm feeling when I accelerate hard.

Thanks a lot I will do that tomorrow morning as engine is hot now .I drove it after cleaning tte vtc spool and it feels a little better .
I will do what you suggested tomrrow.
But I will be needing professional help with the P0341 and rattle on start up .
The last Kareem tgat tried to change the VVT on my previous Corolla led to a tookunbo engine.

Yes a P0341 would cause loss of power so you are not getting full power. Honda will usually go into limp mode (3000rpm) for critical fault codes and will cause loss of power for non critical faults. Codes like P0420 will not cause anything.

Your current fault code relates to the intake Cam shaft. Its either the timing has jumped (unlikely) or the chain has a slack or the sensor or its wiring is bad.

You can start by checking connector plug of the sensor and its wiring. Remove the plug and refit it. Clear the code and if it returns then check timing by setting the top dead center and also checking the chain for slack. If all correct then find a replacement sensor.

Since you are on mineral oil now, if there is no shortage, you can try the synthetic. If there is shortage or leakage, you then revert but if non, you can continue.

Thanks a lot for your help ,forgot to mention I have P2649 also yesterday, so started this morning by removing the vtc spool I will attach a picture below.
Item looks very neat , I will monitor the oil for loss so far there aren't any leaks
As I'm replying I'm yet to couple back but all connectors look ok from visual checks ,maybe I will just seek professional help .car isn't in limp mode but somehow o feel the acceleration should be faster. I also have rattle on start up and I know what needs to be done there, most likely when lockdown is over I will resolve all issues .

0341 refers to a performance issue on the signal from camshaft (possible timing issue, possible sludge issues, possible welding of camshaft actuator.

Next is a 2646, which is the rocker are actuator with performance issues or stuck off. (Possible timing issues, oil pressure issues, sludge )

There is no easy fast route to this fix, but diligent step by step diagnosis in eliminating possible causes.

P.S do not replace the camshafts sensors on a honda, they never die

Took of the spool behind the engine block, looks pretty neat , also the timing actuator hasn't been welded because there is rattle on start up . Maybe I should just seek professional help and stop this DIY

Mechanics call it raising sensor while is name is VTEC spool valve assembly. Its a common issue. It causes limb mode (engine speed limited to under 3000rpm). It is located behind the top cylinder to the left of the exhaust manifold.

The issue is not a straight forward one that i can give you a solution. There are 2 electrical connectors, one for oil switch (right) and the other to the solenoid (left). The one for the solenoid is the affected one. Try to make sure there is good connection or the wire is not cut as the first solution attempt. If it doesn't work, a mechanic needs to remove the assembly, inspect the spool filter for dirt and wash the spool with fuel. Reinstall and try again, if it doesnt work, replace. Make sure the spool gasket isn't dry, that place is notorious for leakage due to high pressure engine oil.

Good evening ,I just got an accord, imran a scan and found this code in its memory. Mine revs past 3000 rpm but when you accelerate hard you feel something is missing the car drives well but I think it can be better I've wiped the code now and I haven't been able to really drive it due to lockdown.
I also have the fault code P0341.
Please any advice or assistance you can offer me will be greatly appreciated.i was already contemplating cleaning the spool you mentioned as I've read it else where ,I I went to autonedics and also worked at a mechanic garage for a couple of years so I tend to fix all issues myself.
Also car has been in the country for less than a year but the person I got it from has started using mineral oil. I want to know if I can switch back to synthetic oil .

I want to start by cleaning VTc behind tte engine block, I just changed oil. Previous owner was using mineral oil so I stuck to that, if after cleaning the vtc Vtec doesnt come back I will be needing professional help.
