They were so named by Western observers and historians due to their similarity to the semi-mythical Amazons of ancient Anatolia and the Black Sea. What's unique about them was their discipline and effectiveness - also their fierceness in battle . They were TOUGH ! and conquered many during the West African slave wars. Abeokuta and Yorubaland were arch enemies of Dahomey and these Mino almost took Abeokuta twice |
