No matter how finely planned and tested, migrating a live system is a formidable endeavour especially as related to money. The leg work for all those Project Scope and UAT had been done long long ago (they didn't just decide to switch over night)

Complexity shouldn't be used as a justification for unacceptable downtime. End-users expect reliability and availability, especially in critical systems like banking ERPs.

From a customer perspective, the fact that it's a complex migration doesn't matter; what matters is that their banking services are unavailable. Transparency and communication are essential, but ultimately, the responsibility lies with the implementation team to deliver a seamless transition.

Accepting downtime as an inevitable consequence of complexity sets a concerning precedent. Instead, it should serve as a catalyst for reviewing and improving processes to ensure future migrations meet the required standards of reliability and uptime.
