The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, will today commence

hearing on the petition the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate,

Atiku Abubakar, filed to challenge the outcome of the February 23 presidential election.

The petitioners, are seeking to invalidate the declaration of President Buhari of

the All Progressives Congress, APC, as winner of the presidential contest.

A five-man panel of Justices of the Court of Appeal will conduct pre-hearing session

Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State has called on the electorate not to sell their

permanent voter cards (PVCs) to any politician for any reason.

Bagudu made the call during the ongoing All Progressives Congress

(APC ) campaign rally at Maiyama Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

Bagudu said the electorate should jealously guard their PVCs against unscrupulous

politicians, who go round buying PVCs, especially in rural areas.

“Chase away any politician who gives out money to collect PVCs for whatever reason.

“Do not sell your PVC, your PVC is your vote and if you sell your PVC, you sell your

conscience and you cannot vote for the candidate of your choice during any election,”

he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will

train over one million electoral staff and ad-hoc personnel for 2019 general elections.

The Chairman Board of Electoral Institute (BEI), Mr Solomon Soyebi,

made the disclosure on Monday in Calabar.

He announced this during a training workshop for State Training Officers

and Assistant State Training Officers on Cascade Training Implementation for 2019 elections.

The workshop was organised by INEC in collaboration with the

Senator Gamawa Babayo, the deputy national chairman (north) of the Peoples

Democratic Party (PDP) has been suspended, over alleged negligence of duty and anti-party activities.

“The National Working Committee (NWC), of the PDP in line with

Section 29 (2), a, b, and c of the Party Constitution, hereby suspends

Senator Gamawa Babayo, the Deputy National Chairman (North),”

Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesman said in a statement.

“His suspension is with immediate effect.”



The suspension came after the National Working Committee in its extraordinary

session of the 5th of January 2019 reviewed the petition against Babayo.

The ongoing strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)

continues as the leaders of the union and the Federal government failed to reach an agreement again.

The resumed negotiation was presided over by, Senator Chris Ngige, The Minister of Labour and Employment with the striking university lecturers on Monday at the ministry’s office in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

According to Channels Tv, unlike previous meetings which ended inconclusively, ASUU National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, and other leaders of the union walked out of the meeting.

Professor Ogunyemi, however, refused to speak to newsmen about the outcome of the meeting and why the union leaders stormed out after about two hours.



But in an interview with newsmen after the meeting, Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige insisted that the lecturers did not walk out.

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reacted to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, blaming his administration for late appointment of cabinet members President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shehu, while speaking when he featured on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television, on Monday, said the refusal of Jonathan’s government to cooperate with the transition committee led to delay in appointments.

But, reacting, Jonathan in a statement by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze said he should not be blamed for the failure of Buhari to appoint ministers early enough in the life of his government.

The former president said that handover notes from a predecessor does not contain the list of ministers for the incoming administration.



Jonathan urged Shehu to seek ways to better situation of the country rather than blame previous adminstration for its performance.

The former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola charges

President Muhammadu Buhari to back out of the 2019 presidential race.

Oyinlola, while receiving the chairmen of 10 political parties that adopted Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as sole presidential candidate, made this statement on Monday in Abuja.

Oyinlola, who is the chairman of the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, a coalition of 37 parties in alliance with the PDP, told reporters that with the addition of the 10 new entrants, the Coalition now has 48 political parties under its umbrella.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the new entrants was held at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.



The CUPP chairman also announced that six other political parties have applied to join the Coalition and that their applications were being processed.

Oyinlola said “developments in the country in the past three and half years clearly indicated that President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress were least prepared for leadership.”

Cristiano Ronaldo will accept a 2-year suspended jail sentence for tax fraud at a

court appearance in January, according to Spanish media.

The Juventus and Portugal star is accused of defrauding Spanish tax authorities out of

€14.8million (£13.3million).

According to AS, Ronaldo will be formally found guilty at a hearing on January 14

but will not actually serve any jail time.

The reported deal with the Spanish Treasury is set to end a long-running legal saga dating

to when Ronaldo played for Real Madrid.

charges when they were brought against him last summer.
But the striker reportedly admitted a total of four tax offences earlier this year after

Helicopter crash in Nepal kills six.

The helicopter crash in central Nepal earlier today, Saturday, kills six on board including a tourist from Japan.
A woman is said to have survived the crash with injuries and has reportedly been airlifted to the capital.

Chief Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, District police said AFP authorities were working to retrieve the bodies, but on getting to the crash site, in a thick forest and with no road access, had been “challenging”.

He added that the cause of the crash was not known.

The single-pilot Kathmandu-bound Altitude Air helicopter was carrying six passengers, including a Japanese trekker, when it lost contact with air traffic control after taking off from the central district of Gorkha.

The Federal government has advised residents of Abuja not to panic over the recent earth tremors experienced in some parts of the territory. In the last two days, some residents of Abuja have been woken up by the tremor.


At a press conference in Abuja today, the director-general of the National Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), Alex Nsegbu, said Nigeria is not on the boundary that can make the country suffer earthquake.

The outbreak in Borno State that claims the lives of 14 persons from suspected acute watery diarrhoea has been confirmed by the state Government. The state Commissioner for Health, Haruna Mshellia, made the disclosure on Wednesday during a press conference in Maiduguri.
