CAF Player of the Year Award: Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane, Alex Iwobi headline 34 man shortlist

The Liverpool duo alongside Arsenal's pair of Alex Iwobi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang battle for the continent's top individual price.
Mohammed Salah is favourite to scoop the CAF Player of the year award for the second time in a row after an impressive debut campaign with the reds last season. His 44 goals in all competitions, one of which (vs Everton) guaranteed him the FIFA Puskas Award is no mean feat. This coupled with the fact that he made the three-man shortlist for the FIFA player of the year award makes him an overwhelming favourite.
However, the likes of Nigeria's Ahmed Musa who was arguably Africa's best player at the World Cup and Senegal's Sadio Mane...

Sports / Tottenham Vs Chelsea Match Analysis: Five Things We Learned by Sportstotality(m): 1:00am On Nov 25, 2018
Maurizio Sarri’s unbeaten start as Chelsea boss was torn to shreds by a rampant Spurs side who could have put more than three goals past Kepa Arizabalaga. Tottenham have now leapfrogged Chelsea into third place, 5 points behind leaders Manchester City after their 3-1 win over their London rivals at Wembley Stadium.

Kane celebrates after goal in Tottenham vs Chelsea

It was the first time Tottenham started with Kane, Son, Alli and Eriksen in the same match this season and the latter two showed no sign of rustiness from the injuries they sustained earlier in the season.
Dele Alli opened the floodgates after just 8 minutes, sending a header into the net from Eriksen’s wicked freekick.
Kane doubled the lead less than 10 minutes later with a shot from outside the box, as David Luiz seemed to obstruct Kepa’s view.
Tottenham continued to command the game and could have gotten one or two goals before halftime, with Son missing on a couple of occasions.

The South Korean delivered a solo piece of his own in the 54th minute, embarking on a run, before leaving Jorginho for dead, beating David Luiz then putting the ball into the back of the net to score his 50th goal for Tottenham.

Olivier Giroud came off the bench to make the scoreline more respectable, however it was a match where Chelsea were out-runned, out-played, and out-scored.
Now let us look at the talking points under

Arsenal vs Liverpool Match Analysis: Five talking points

Exhilarating, breathtaking, fascinating; these words can be used to describe the show of football displayed by two teams who portrayed why it is called beautiful. In truth, the one-all scoreline does little in narrating the story at the Emirates.
With 16 shots fired from both teams in the first half, one would wonder why there were no goals. Actually there was one from Sadio Mane which was controversially ruled offside by the linesman. Aubameyang, Van Dijk, Mkhitaryan and a host of others were guilty of missing gilt-edged chances before half time as Arsenal enjoyed more possession, but Liverpool looked more deadly going forward.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 60th minute when James Milner was at the end of a loose ball, after Mane's effort was weakly parried by Bernd Leno. Milner's goal was his 50th in the EPL and the 14th in a Liverpool shirt.
The match continued as Arsenal sought a way back, however it was Van Dijk that came closest to scoring when his header was tipped over by Leno.
Iwobi's introduction proved influential as he teed up Lacazette with a fine pass, the Frenchman did everything right, beating Allison to the ball and sending an angled effort to the post.

Sports / Arsenal Vs Chelsea Match Analysis: 5 Things We Learned by Sportstotality(m): 4:33pm On Jan 04, 2018
Arsenal and Chelsea played out a pulsating 2-2 draw at the Emirates. This match saw both teams fail to score in the first 63 minutes, yet, 4 goals were produced in the final 27 minutes of the match.
When Hector Bellerin struck in stoppage time, it felt like nothing more could happen. However, as the replay of the goal stopped, Morata was at the other end face-to-face with Petr Cech and his tame effort was not the last kick of the game as Davide Zappacosta hit the crossbar with the rebound.
Both teams will feel that they had played well enough to get the win in an end to end contest of football, another testament to why it is called beautiful.
The match has sent the football world into ruptures. There have been opinions, arguments and discussions alike from face to face dialogue, to the more global platform of the social media in relation to the many talking points of the match.
Chelsea's penalty, Arsenal's wobbly defence, Conte's starting XI and many more stand as talking points in the London derby.
Now, in the subsequent paragraphs, I present Arsenal vs Chelsea match analysis discussed under 5 things we learned from Arsenal vs Chelsea.

Sports / George Weah: The Journey From World Best Player To President by Sportstotality(m): 9:24am On Dec 29, 2017
Over two decades ago, in the days when George Weah donned the colours of AC Milan, he scored one of World Football's greatest goals against Hellas Verona, finishing calmly after a coast-to-coast run. Benedetta Radaelli, current editor-in-chief of the Rossoneri's official channel AC Milan TV, was there. 'I was with my dad. He was saying under his breath 'they won't catch him'. Then he started saying it out loud continuously, in disbelief. Then when George put it in the net, my dad burst into laughter. For me as a little girl, it was amazing fun to be there for such an event. The entire stadium erupted in joy.' The man who bacame an icon to many in Africa, and the World over has just scored his greatest goal yet by winning the Liberian Presidential Election, following the announcement of the results on Thursday.
George Weah has always been one to make history, one to defy all odds. As a footballer, he still remains the only African to be named World Footballer of the year, a feat he achieved in 1995, when he also won European Player of the Year and African Player of the year. A magnificent footballer he was, now he is charged with the responsibility of not scoring goals, or dribbling defenders on a football pitch, instead, he is to replicate his skills on the field to a new pitch - the country, Liberia.

Sports / Is Pep Guardiola's Manchester City Unstoppable? by Sportstotality(m): 11:26am On Dec 18, 2017
George Washington wrote in 1799: "…make them believe, that offensive operations, often times, is the surest, if not the only (in some cases) means of defense". This is a classic example of someone paraphrasing the saying: " The best defense is a good offense "- Pep Guardiola's Manchester City is a proof of the trueness of this adage.
The EPL has always been hailed as the toughest league in the World, but the ease with which Manchester City is cruising could see that tag disappear.
Last week, Manchester City defeated fierce rivals Manchester United 2-1 at the Old Trafford and tongues wagged about how the title race could already be over as City went 11 points clear.
If there were still doubts on anyone's mind after that event, then City's 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur has certainly reverberated the fact that "Pep Guardiola's Manchester City cannot be stopped".

Sports / Offside Rule: Why Did CSKA Moscow Goal Vs Manchester United Stand? by Sportstotality(m): 11:04am On Dec 06, 2017
Manchester United defeated CSKA Moscow 2-1 in the Champions League to secure top spot in Group A.
Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford scored twice in as many minutes to end CSKA Moscow's hope of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
However, Manchester United had to fight back from a goal down as CSKA Moscow took the lead through Alan Dzagoev at the stroke of halftime, and many are confused as to why the goal stood. Mario Fernandes received a pass and was kept onside by Chris Smalling. The CSKA Moscow man raced down the right before delivering a low cross to Vitinho. Vitinho in turn sent a shot goal-bound, but it hit the back of Alan Dzagoev before going into the net. At this point, Dzagoev was beyond every United player within the rectangular boundaries of the field, however the goal stood as the linesman failed to raise his flag for offside.

Sports / 5 Things We Learnt From Arsenal Vs Manchester United by Sportstotality(m): 6:23pm On Dec 03, 2017
Yesterday, Manchester United defeated Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates. THE END ...?
If you stayed at home and saw just the scoreline, you would have imagined how dominant Manchester United must have being against Arsenal, and that in fact, is a logical mental picture. However, Arsenal pdoduced probably one of their best attacking displays in recent years. Yes! You heard that right. The gunners won in all positive aspects of the match, bar the scoreline.
Arsenal kept 75% of ball possession, attempted 33 shots, from which 15 were on target, played 655 passes in contrast to United's 25% ball possession, 8 shots, from which 4 were on target and 222 passes. How then did Arsenal lose?
The match has had football pundits analysing and discussing the ifs and buts of the match, a match filled with many talking points. Pogba's red card, Welbeck's penalty, Martial's intelligent assist stand as talking points. However, in this article, I present the Five things we learnt from Arsenal vs Manchester United.

1. David De Gea is the World's Best Keeper

Sports / The Power Behind José Mourinho's Tactics by Sportstotality(m): 5:48am On Dec 03, 2017
After Manchester United delivered a 3-1 victory away at the Emirates yesterday, many who did not watch the match must have created a mental picture of United dominating the match. However this is far from the truth. In fact, arsenal kept 75% of possession throughout the match and forced David De Gea into making a Premier League high fourteen(14) saves.
Few weeks ago, I made a detailed analysis on Mourinho's tactics and about why he is wrongly criticized. Yesterday, he once again proved that being clinical is key in football. Read more here
