Arsenal handed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his first League loss since taking over as Interim Manager of Manchester United.

Goals from Granit Xhaka (12′) and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (69′) secured victory against the Red Devils, as the Gunners leapfrogged their opponents to fourth place.

Manchester United who deafeated Paris Saint Germain on Wednesday night, ultimately sending the parisans home in dramatic fashion, seemed to suffer a hangover from the celebration of that victory; and although they carved out the better chances in the match, registering eleven (11) shots, they could not find a way past Bernd Leno.

Arsenal started brightly, dictating the tempo of the game and having three attempts in the first 10 minutes, but when United countered, it resulted in the best chance up to that point...

The Old Lady have a Herculean task in the second leg, if they are to overturn the 2-0 deficit they suffered in the hands of Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano. The introduction of VAR to the Champions League knockout phase was meant to ensure that all goals scored are legal. However in the match between Ajax and Real Madrid yesterday, VAR generated another round of controversy after Nicolas Tagliofico’s goal was ruled out for offside.

Sergio Aguero was the star of the show at the Etihad as the Argentine registered his tenth hat-trick since coming to the EPL in a convincing 3-1 win over Arsenal. The sound of the whistle for kick-off had barely faded when Bernd Leno was picking up the ball from his own net as City pounced on Alex Iwobi’s mistake to take the lead. Arsenal responded less than ten minutes later as captain Koscielny headed in from a corner.





From then on it was City who dictated the game, keeping possession admirably, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, the Silvas, Ilkay Gundugan, and Raheem Sterling showing understanding and exchanging passes at will. Arsenal tried to stifle out the Citizens’ fluid attack but were eventually broken just few minutes before half time. Raheem Sterling received a long ball on the left, played it back to Gundogan who returned a beautifully lofted pass for Sterling to square and Aguero to finish.
Going behind shortly before the break seemed to sniff out the life of the Arsenal team as they failed to register a single shot in the second half. Manchester City dominated the second half and deservedly got their third. Another Sterling to Aguero ball that crossed the line. Though, via his hand, the ball was bound to go in one way or another.
