Leaders of Ndigbo resident in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have confirmed that they were given money by President Goodluck Jonathan during his recent visit to the state to solicit for their support and votes. Making this known is the former President of Ohaneze, Lagos State, and coordinator of Goodluck Jonathan Support Group, Dr Oliver Akabueze. He said that the president solicited for their support and asked the leaders to mobilise Igbos in the state to vote for him. He explained that the money received was not a bribe but campaign fund to mobilise the Igbos in the state to vote for the president who is seeking re-election. Akabueze also stated that the president donated a luxury bus for his campaign and that the bus must be fuelled and a driver must be employed to drive the bus around the state during the campaign for Jonathan. Though he declined to disclose the amount of money the president gave them in Lagos, sources said it runs into billions of naira. Investigation revealed that the manner the money was shared has divided the leaders. Some of the leaders are grumbling because some got more money than the others. P.M.NEWS learnt from one of the leaders that while some got N500,000, others were given N300,000 and N100,000 respectively. Some of the leaders who spoke to our reporter but did not want their names mentioned, said the money has caused division as some of the leaders who felt shortchanged said they will not campaign for Jonathan, saying those who got more money should go ahead and campaign for the President. Last week President Jonathan spent five days in Lagos during which he held series of meetings with various ethnic and socio-cultural groups and their leaders to seek their support for his re-election. During his stay, he reportedly doled out billions of naira to the groups, though his media aide, Reuben Abati, denied that the president gave out money to any group. http://saharareporters.com/2015/02/27/jonathan-gave-us-money—lagos-igbo-leader |

London (AFP) - Nigerian presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday vowed to "lead from the front" in the fight against Boko Haram if elected in the country's forthcoming election. The former military ruler, who rejected descriptions of him as a "dictator", also argued against further delays to the election and said a free, fair and peaceful vote would boost democracy in Africa. The 72-year-old from the All Progressives Congress (APC) opposition has been seen as neck-and-neck with President Goodluck Jonathan in the closely fought election campaign. Some have predicted that Jonathan's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could lose power for the first time since Nigeria returned to civilian rule in 1999. In a speech at the Chatham House international affairs institute in London, which was broadcast live online, Buhari asserted that Nigeria had been failed by a consistent lack of leadership from Jonathan in the insurgency. "Our soldiers have neither received the necessary support nor the required incentive to tackle this problem. Let me assure you that if I'm elected president, I vow to change that," he added. "We will give them adequate modern arms and ammunition, we will improve intelligence gathering... we will be tough on terrorists and tough on its root causes... in the affected areas." "No inch of Nigerian territory will ever be in the hands of the enemy," Buhari pledged, promising to return Nigeria to its former role as a stabilising force in west Africa. The Islamist insurgency, which began in 2009, has left more than 13,000 people dead and forced more than one million others to flee their homes. Jonathan and his administration have been widely criticised for failing to stop the violence, which has seen Boko Haram seize territory in the northeast and attack neighbouring countries. Elections scheduled for February 14 were delayed as the military said ongoing operations with soldiers from Chad, Cameroon and Niger meant that troops could not provide security on polling day. But Jonathan, his national security advisor and the head of the army have said that major gains will be made by the new election date, March 28, to allow voting to take place. - High expectations - Critics have accused Jonathan and the PDP of delaying the vote to give them more time to seize back the momentum from the APC and Buhari said "any form of extension... will not be tolerated". Instead, he said free, fair and peaceful elections could "trigger a wave of democratic consolidation in Africa" and help to strengthen democracy in Nigeria. Buhari, seen as an anti-corruption figure despite allegations of serious rights abuses by his regime in the 1980s, also responded to descriptions of himself as a former dictator. "Let me say without sounding defensive that dictatorship was military rule, though some are less dictatorial than others," he said. "I take responsibility for whatever happened under my watch. I cannot change the past but I can change the present and the future. "So, before you is a former military ruler and a converted democrat who is ready to operate under democratic rules." "I will, if elected, lead by personal example," he said. "On corruption, there will be no confusion as to where I stand: corruption will have no place and the corrupt will not be appointed to my administration," he said. On Nigeria's economy, on paper Africa's largest but where the majority of people remain impoverished, Buhari said an APC government would work to free people from the "curse of poverty". Buhari has been mobbed by huge crowds on the campaign trail but said there was a need to "tamper high expectations on the part of those who are expecting miracles to happen". "Our expectation of getting there overnight is not realistic but... there are some of us in Nigeria who are serious" about stabilising the system. http://news.yahoo.com/nigerias-buhari-vows-lead-front-against-boko-haram-002619119.html?soc_src=mediacontentstory&soc_trk=tw

Three hours before the advertised speech of Maj. General Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate at the Chatham House in London, the odd crowd arrived the St. James Square venue, creating a scene that attracted the London police. The arrival of the crowd only confirmed stories that the Jonathan campaign group had doled out wads of cash to some people to disrupt the event. From interviews by a TV crew, it was obvious that many of the people hired were not Nigerians. They also did not even know why they came to carry banners of protests. TV reports show the ladies were unkempt, indicating, as the interviewer suggested, they were picked straight from some red-light districts in the city. It was the first time, an incumbent would carry out a political hate-campaign against a rival outside Nigeria. The campaign of hatred is already being waged intensely locally, with daily assaults on Buhari’s medical, educational, military records by the Jonathan group. At the last count, there were about 10 legal challenges to Buhari’s educational qualification by litigants working for the Jonathan group, and who are seeking a court order to stop Buhari’s electoral challenge to Jonathan: a desperation by an incumbent has never been so palpable in the history of Nigeria. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/02/26/chatham-house-jonathans-rented-crowd-in-show-of-shame/ |

Look at how GEJ is wasting money anyhow. Is spying very important right now. It is developed countries that does so efficiently not developing ones when they are many issues on deck. So he wants to turn Nigeria like the US NSA. Spying on innocent citizens anyhow. We would soon have our own Edward Snowden to reveal more details. #CHANGEMUSTCOME #SAIBUHARI #SAIOSINBAJO |

Affidavits filed by Nigeria’s Attorney General Mohammed Bello Adoke and just leaked to SaharaReporters reveal a stealth and controversial attempt by President Goodluck Jonathan’s government to undermine the use of permanent voter cards (PVCs) in the country’s forthcoming elections. Judicial sources, who leaked the affidavits to SaharaReporters, said the documents show that Mr. Adoke is opposed to efforts by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free and fair elections using an updated electronic voters register and permanent voter cards. At campaign stumps and interviews, President Jonathan has touted the adoption of PVCs as part of his legacy to ensure the empowerment of Nigerian voters, stating that the initiative would eliminate lapses in past elections. But affidavits filed by Mr. Adoke, a longtime confidante of Mr. Jonathan’s, reveal a surreptitious scheme to undermine the use of PVCs. In one of the affidavits, Mr. Adoke, who is also Nigeria’s Minister of Justice, argued, “if the election is conducted majorly with the use of Permanent Voters’ Card, the constitutional right of the many eligible voters would be taken away from them.” The affidavit also argued that the election “is likely to be unsuccessful if rigid use of the Permanent Voters’ Card is carried out.” A second affidavit, also leaked to SaharaReporters, stated, “the use of card readers and/ or any other machine at the general elections must encourage eligible voters to vote without being deprived in any way.” INEC chairman Attahiru Jega recently stated that the use of PVCs would not be to cast votes but to validate and authenticate the votes cast. The distinction, he said, was that the PVCs and card readers would prevent electoral manipulation by acting as a checking mechanism. An INEC source told SaharaReporters that, without these electronic verification mechanisms, the presidential and other elections could be severely compromised. Mr. Adoke’s affidavits, which are dated February 23, 2015, expose yet another attempt by President Jonathan’s associates to use incessant lawsuits to disrupt electoral processes decided on and announced by INEC several years ago. SaharaReporters had revealed that cronies of Mr. Jonathan had filed some 15 lawsuits aimed at once again scuttling the presidential election now scheduled for March 28, 2015. The affidavits by Mr. Adoke represent a new twist in the familiar plot, one legal source in Abuja told SaharaReporters. “The office of the Attorney General of the Federation has aligned itself with many litigants who are determined to use the courts to either scuttle the elections or stop INEC from using the best tools to prevent or drastically reduce rigging in this year’s elections. The use of rigging-proof electronic voter cards, which the AGF is now challenging, is an ominous sign,” said the source, a senior advocate of Nigeria. http://saharareporters.com/2015/02/24/nigeria%E2%80%99s-attorney-general-files-affidavits-scuttle-use-pvcs-elections |
When last have i heard of 9ja politicians afraid of going to jail.... Now Buhari is coming they are afraid and panicking including GEJ. Buhari will properly equip the Judiciary and law enforcement agencies to jail any corrupt person(s) including his own cohorts if found guilty unlike GEJ who romances with them. If Buhari surrounds himself with 100 corrupt politicians, GEJ own is 10, 000. Some people are always saying Tinubu is corrupt, he is using Buhari, I tell them nah... I believe Buhari is using him. When he enters, his own corrupt cohorts will regret putting him there. SAI BUHARI SAI OSINBAJO #CHANGEMUSTCOME

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Adamawa South Senatorial District, Silas Zwingina, has claimed that the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, intends to send public office holders to jail if he emerges president. Mr. Zwingina, therefore, urged his party members to work hard to ensure that Mr. Buhari fails in his bid to become president. Speaking in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, Mr. Zwingina said “we have to stop Buhari and his plan to build more prisons to jail politicians. “You know Buhari, he will send us to jail for between 200 to 300 years and it is the lucky ones among us that will get 50 years. “As you know, there is no way you will hold office in Nigeria and go scot free if the authorities want to get you. “Buhari is determined to send people to jail and even APC governors are not comfortable with him and that’s why many of them are not following his campaign team,” Mr. Zwingina alleged. He said President Goodluck Jonathan is better than Mr. Buhari and needs to be returned to continue his transformation agenda. “Let me tell you, that Jonathan is 1,000 times better than Buhari and that’s why people resolved to vote for our candidate, President Jonathan,” he said. He also urged the people to elect the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Nuhu Ribadu as Governor and vote all other PDP candidates in the state. In his remarks, Mr. Ribadu pleaded for the unity of PDP in the state if it must emerged victorious. “If you vote me, I promise you that I will not betray you. I met just recently with Mr. President and he showed concern over the level of underdevelopment in Adamawa with the promise that Adamawa is among the states he will accord priority in terms of federal projects. “In 2011 election, we gave the president 65 per cent and I promised him that this time around we will give him 80 per cent,” Mr. Ribadu said. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/177439-we-must-stop-buhari-before-he-sends-us-to-jail-ex-senator-zwingina.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
