Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) has declared that if voted into office, his foremost challenge will be to kill corruption so that corruption does not kill Nigeria. Buhari, who made the declaration yesterday while speaking at the South- South Zonal Presidential Rally of the APC in Port Harcourt, insisted that monumental corruption in the past 16 years that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had formed the federal government and controlled most of the states in the country had retarded Nigeria’s economic growth and development, which has permeated virtually all spheres of the country. He said, “The issue before us is very clear indeed. Please sit in your home, or in small groups, and ask yourselves these questions: How much has accrued to Nigeria in the past 16 years that the PDP has controlled the federal government? How much of these funds have trickled down to you as a Nigerian? Whatever answers you arrive at should determine what party and candidate you will vote for on March 28. “We should not personalise this issue. It is not about Buhari; it is about us; it is about you and me; it is about our children and the future of our children. My fear is that if we don’t kill corruption in Nigeria, corruption will kill us. So, the choice before us is to resolve to kill corruption and free our country from the firm grip of corrupt men and women. “If those in the PDP who have been in control of our resources at the centre and in most states of the country have been responsive and responsible, there would not have been so much insecurity and poverty in the country today. If for whatever reason, you make a mistake and vote for the PDP at the centre or even in any state, I assure you, you are going to regret it. “If you choose to vote for the APC at the centre and in the states, you are neither doing me nor your governorship candidate a favour. You will be doing yourself a favour if you vote for the APC. This is our country and what I am telling you today is the truth. Just look at how the naira is tumbling. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is expected to release a video accepting Boko Haram into its fold after the Nigerian sect pledge allegiance to the Islamist sect. Abu Ward Al-Raqqawi, a member of Raqqa, who are the founders and activists in Syrian revolution said the terrorist group will accept Boko Haram in a video soon. Al-Raqqawi who was one of the first persons to share Boko Haram’s audio on Twitter, said he is working against Al-Asaad and Islamic State. “#ISIS soon to release a video accepting Boko Haram’s pledge of allegiance to the group,” he wrote on his Twitter page after Boko Haram pledged allegiance. Operatives of the DSS in Calabar minutes ago rounded up executives of ‘Forward Nigeria’, a political support group campaigning for the reelection of President Jonathan over what CrossRiverWatch gathered is the alleged sale of PVCs to prospective voters who are willing to thumb print for President Jonathan in the March 28 election. The suspects who were arrested at the Fish and Chicken Affairs fast food along Marian Road in Calabar, were said to be meeting there and collecting a register of those who were willing to vote for President Jonathan on March 28, preparatory to offering them PVCs that will be used for the exercise. A visibly shaken member of the group who spoke to our reporter after emerging from hiding immediately the DSS operatives had gone, but pleaded not to be named said: “We were just having our meeting and collecting details like telephone numbers, emails and addresses of members of the public who are willing to vote for President Jonathan come March 28. In the midst of the meeting, SSS men just came in and rounded up our executives who were coordinating the registration. From where I was hiding, I saw five of our executives been taken away.” When CrossRiverWatch contacted the spokesman of the DSS in the State, Mr. Dickson on the phone, he said he cannot talk to the press over the matter and quickly dropped the call after hearing it was from a journalist. But before he dropped the call, Mr. Dickson who was obviously returning from the scene of arrest was overhead asking another operative “Why are you allowing that man make phone call in our premises.” Another DSS operative who spoke to us under anonymity said “We have since got information about people buying and selling PVCs and we have been on their trail. This afternoon, we got a tip off that a group that has been perpetrating the act was meeting with some persons at a fast food in town, we had to quickly move in and make arrest. ENUGU—The self-acclaimed Caretaker Committee of apex Igbo socio-cultural group,Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has faulted the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan for the March 28 presidential election. Igbo-menThe committee had alleged that the tenure of the President General,Chief,Enwo Igariwey, and its executives had expired in January as allegedly contained in the constitution of the body which stipulates two years tenure in office for its executives. Secretary to the Caretaker Committee, Mr. Zed Chukwujama, disclosed this in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Enugu weekend. The statement read: “We have salt deposits in Ebonyi State, a broken down cement factory at Nkalagu, the Enugu Coal Mines closed down, the Oji-River Thermal Station not functioning, the river dock at Onitsha a mirage, the Enugu Onitsha Road as well as the Enugu-Port Harcourt roads as death traps. “The Aba dry dock is a mirage. Why should the Igbo not discuss these problems with President Jonathan? He is our President. “The Federal Government’s Mid-term Assessment of their development investment has these figures: total investment in North Central zone-N495 billion, North West zone-N297 billion,South-West zone-N215 billion,South-South zone-N114 billion while in the South-East zone-N74 billion. “Several billions of Naira were paid to the people of Zaki Biam and Odi as reparation for Injustices meted out to their people. It is highly believed by Ndigbo that Dr. Nwaorgu and Chief Igariweh are Campaigning against the reparation for the Igbo at the presidency for atrocities and injustices against Ndigbo. “This is because Chief Amaechi and Chief Ralph Obioha are the Chairman and Secretary respectively and Dr. Zed Chukwujama the Chairman of the outreach sub committees of the Reparation Committee.
