President Goodluck Jonathan: accused of supporting warlords

The All Progressive Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO) has slammed President Goodluck Jonathan for his usual complicity and alliance with ethnic warlords who have been threatening to tear the country apart in case he (Jonathan) fails at the February 14 presidential polls.

The APCPCO said in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday that this unholy alliance by the President with elements that served notice of their diabolical intention to foment trouble is in negation to the oath of allegiance sworn to over five years ago by the President, to maintain the territorial integrity and indivisible Nigeria.

The statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APCPCO, Mallam Garba Shehu, condemned the President’s attitude of “condoling treasonable statements and gross indiscipline by some elements of his kinsmen – as a breach of presidential oath to protect all Nigerians and a sheer display of double standard and selective justice.”

“How can the President feign ignorance of the war plots and call to arms in Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa, supervised by a PDP Governor, Seriake Dickson, and the Presidential Special Adviser on Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku, with majority of Niger Delta ex-militant kinsmen,” Shehu said.

“Whereas this President was quick to condemn MEND for allegedly supporting the opposition candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, and lambast claims by the hoax Federal Government-hired Australian negotiator with the Boko Haram, Dr Stephen Davis; publicly bad-mouthed his critics particularly former Head of State, Olusegun Obasanjo; yet he has refused to call to order tribal war-mongers like Kingsley Kuku and his cohorts – Asari Dokubo, Tompolo, Boy Loaf and others. This is a total and unequivocal support of Mr. President for aiding and abetting treason in the land, an impeachable offence by all standards.”

Also recalling similar situations of Jonathan’s lukewarm attitude towards probing or punishing alleged criminal plots, Shehu reminded that “former President Obasanjo wrote in his famous Open Letter to Jonathan, of a ‘hidden agenda by snipers trained abroad to eliminate 1000 opposition politicians’ in case Jonathan fails to return to Aso Rock Villa in 2015. Up till now, no inquiry has been instituted to probe the serious allegation.”

He also attributed the clandestine procurement and distribution of arms and ammunition across the nation, all in the name of fighting insurgency, to a grand design by the incumbent President and his party to scuttle democracy or eventually break up the country for parochial gains.

“It is now common knowledge that strange planes and helicopters laden with arms have been landing at unauthorised spots in some parts of the country. The incident in Kano where a cargo plane supposedly going to neighbouring country of Niger landed unexpectedly, and the use of drones one of which allegedly crashed recently; coupled with the shady movement of millions of raw dollars to do undercover black market buying of weapons in South Africa. All these incidents ride against the tide of transparency and public accountability and a clear breach of the President’s oath of allegiance to the country’s Constitution,” Shehu said.

Former Benue Commissioner for Transport, Mr Joseph Orkar, who was detained for eighteen months by the then military regime of General Muhammadu Buhari, said that the APC presidential candidate sent corrupt politicians to jail to demonstrate his high sense of moral discipline.
Orkar stated this on wednesday at an APC rallty in Aliade, Benue.
Admitting that they could have have been cases of miscarriage of justice, the few cases did not undermine the integrity of the process.
He said Buhari was working towards establishing probity and accountability in the system by decsiplining erring politicians.
Orkar, who is the APC Vice Chairman in the state, said he was an ardent supporter of Buhari despite his inmprisonment and called on other Nigerians to support the APC presidential candidate.
Also speaking, Senate Minority Leader, George Akume, accused the state government of non-payment of workers’ salaries, pensions, scholarship allowances and gratuities amounting to billions of Naira.
He said he left the PDP for the opposition when it became imminent that the PDP had derailed from the fundamental objectives of its fore fathers.
He called on the electorates not to be left out of the wind of change blowing across the the six geo-political zones of the country.
Addressing the rally, a member of the state legislature, Mr Benjamin Adanyi, urged the people of teh state to collect their permanent voter cards (PVC’s) to enable them cast their votes durinmg elections.
On his part, Dr Samuel Ortom, the APC governotrship candidate in the state, accused the PDP of perpetrating acts of injustice, claiming that the injustice had been affirmed by the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.
Ortom, who served as minister under President Goodluck Jonathan, defected to the APC after the PDP primaries.
He promised to bring about a turnaround in all sectors of the economy and to govern the state with the fear of God

Mrs Pauline Tallen, former Plateau Deputy Governor, and six former Commissioners and Special Advisers (SAs), on Wednesday announced their decision to join the All Progressive Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defectors were formally received into the APC fold at a heavily crowded APC gubernatorial rally held at Nefur Arena, Pankshin Local Governemnt Area of the state.

Tallen, who contested for the governorship election under the platform of Labour Party (LP) in 2011, had in December joined the PDP before cross carpeting to APC.

Other defectors included Mr Nuhu Gagara, former Commissioner for Information; Nangin Bagudu, former Commissioner for Works; Mr Joel Gwatau, former Commissioner for Environment; and Na-Allah Mutfwang, former Commissioner for Agriculture.

The rest were Mr Zakaria Gosham, Mr Dan Manjang and Mr Luka Fwangyi, who served Gov. Jang as Special Advisers and Head of Service (HOS), respectively.

Receiving the defectors, Mr Zakari Idi, APC Vice Chairman, North Central Zone, expressed happiness for their decision to join the party.

“We believe that by your coming to join us in APC, you will work tirelessly for the party’s victory at all levels in the forth coming general elections,” Idi said.

In her remarks, Tallen pledged to work for the victory of the APC and its gubertaorial candidate, Mr Simon Lalong as well as the party’s presidential candidate, Gen. Mahammadu Buhari, in next month’s elections.

“I left PDP because of the injustice, corruption and insensitivity of leaders of the party in the state and hope to effect the necessary change in APC,” she said.

NAN reports that the crowd at the APC rally was unprecedented.
