A student of Eyaen Secondary School, Benin, Edo State, has died after being electrocuted by the steel rod used to reinforce a utility pole.

The incident happened some minutes ago. According to an eyewitness, the utility pole had been hit by a vehicle, making the steel rods embedded in it to be exposed.

The JSS 3 student was said to have been arguing with his colleagues who accused him wrongly. They dared him to swear with any metallic object to prove his innocence.
Not knowing that the steel rods are electrified, he grabbed one in order to prove his innocence and was electrocuted immediately.

A 26-year-old lady who lost her father at a young age and had to live at the mercy of relatives, has cried out after her 36-year-old uncle brutalized her in Abuja.

Maimuna Muhammed revealed that her father's relatives collected all they had after her father died and her mother was forced to move back to her family with her children. But she had to endure insults from her brothers' wives even though she was solely responsible for her children's upkeep.

Maimuna had enough of the insults thrown at her mum and decided to stand up for her mum and this led to her being brutally beaten by her mum's younger brother.

Sharing photos of her bruised skin and the uncle who battered her, Maimuna wrote:

Today I wanted to write about my late dad then this happened to me...

I am 26years old and my ucle (mums youngest brother) did this to me. I lost my dad at d age of 3 that's in 1995 in a ghastly motor accident, like the typical African ways that seemed like culture my dads family took everything from us, and my mums abandoned with five of us.

I am d last... To cut d whole story short we've lived our lives being grateful to my mums family for accepting us as my mum didn't re-marry even though she was 100% responsible for our school fee, feeding, clothing ...

All of this has been with a lot of challanges , we've watched our mum took no decision for us without her immediate families consent, we've watched our mum been insulted by the wives of her brothers and we did or said nothing, we've watched her step sis and her children said and did ugly things to her and we said nor did nothing just so we will not be labelled as ungrateful people.

But today I was beating this much by my mums younger brother, the one who lived under our roof while my dad was still alive and even after his death, one that all d days his lived with us he has never helped my mum carry a cup of water??

WHY because i stood for my mum, because I said enough is enough 23years of tolerance is enough cos my mum takes it no matter what as she loves her siblings dearly but the revers is the case.

The person that did this to me is 36years old, a man I learned money wen he needs, a man that calls me late at night to make him quick nuddles and I did..., I man that also beats his girlfriend that has paid his school fee several times.

I know my social status but I just have to post this as if it concerns my mother I will put my life on the line and this will not stop me. The first pictures have emerged from the hospital where the Thailand boys are being treated, after their dramatic rescue from a flooded cave system.

In the photos, several boys can be seen in face masks and hospital gowns, at least one giving a victory sign for the camera

The pictures were published as new details emerged of the enormously complex effort to bring them out alive. The Thai Navy Seals also released new video showing how the rescue worked.

Sources in the rescue operation, including divers who took part said the boys were heavily sedated ahead of the rescue to prevent them panicking in the dark, narrow, underwater passageways.

They were then strapped to one of two rescue divers tasked with shepherding each boy through the underwater parts of the system, and bundled into stretchers to be carried through the dry parts

The people of Ekiti state gave an indication of their voting intention on Tuesday when they defied the orders by outgoing Governor Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party, ordering buses and taxis off the roads and urging residents in the state capital of Ado-Ekiti to stay at home and snub visiting President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari was in Ado-Ekiti to attend the grand finale of All Progressives Congress candidate Dr. Kayode Fayemi’s campaign for the governorship seat, in the election holding on Saturday 14 July. Fayose’s deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olubunmi Olusola-Eleka is Fayemi’s main challenger.NAN reports that many residents of the state capital ignored Fayose’s orders made in a broadcast earlier in the day.

The governor had directed commercial drivers and motorcyclists to withdraw their services, until 4pm, from the roads. He also ordered that public offices and major markets in the city be closed and residents to stay indoors to slight the visiting president.

As a result of the governor’s order, all offices in the State Secretariat were on Tuesday closed. To ensure compliance, he asked the vehicle owners to park their vehicles in the Government House, where he held a counter rally.

However, NAN reports that contrary to the governor’s order, many commercial drivers came out to operate, while many market men and women also opened their shops for business.

NAN reports that normal commercial activities went on normally on Tuesday with a good number of commercial drivers and motorcyclists plying the routes. The Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, venue of the APC rally.

For several hours, taxi cabs and Okada riders picked passengers at bus stops along Ikere Road, Ilawe Road, Adebayo, Old Garage, Basiri, Old Garage, Odo Ado and Oke Ila, among others.

Market women also came to the popular Oja Oba and Bisi Markets, contrary to Fayose’s order that the markets be closed.

APC members and residents were seen in many parts of the city trooping to the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, venue of the rally, which ultimately became full before 12 noon.

Heavy security was mounted at the mega rally, which was attended by many governors and leaders of the APC

Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) covering the rally report that it was not easy for people with no direct relevance to the rally to enter the Stadium, as securitymen frisked them.

The security was complemented by air surveillance by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
