TravelTips On Finding A Cheap Hotel During The Ever Bustling Canton Trade Fair by spymybox(op): 9:52pm On Feb 20, 2015
The canton trade fair is normally characterized with high cost of hotel accommodation which can overstretch the budget of a business visitor to china. Hotel fares rapidly increase immediately the trade fair commences and poses a burden to ignorant visitors to china. However there can be some relief while taking note of the following information.
It is a well known fact that hotels located close to pazhou area venue of the bi annual canton trade fair and the city centre are normally very expensive during this event. You may suddenly wake up to a sudden hike in your hotel room rate if you are not familiar with the season.
Interestingly many business visitors are not aware of the strategic location of the trade fair complex to suburbs within that area. Distance from the trade fair complex to some suburbs is the same as commuting back to the city centre by taxi due to heavy traffic jam and the discomfort of an over crowded metro.
It will be wise to locate at the closest suburb to the trade fair complex if your primary reason is to attend the canton fair. Transportation cost from the suburbs to the trade fair complex range between 8-12Usd while hotel taxis may cost around 40 Usd. They good news is that most hotels offer free shuttle services for customers so you might be very lucky.
Therefore you definitely have an alternative next time you are confronted with high accommodation cost during the canton trade fair.

TravelStrategies Of Bargaining In China. by spymybox(op): 10:54pm On Feb 19, 2015
http://chinnko.com/index.php?u=/topic/146/strategies-of-bargaining-in-china

follow these tips, you’ll at least avoid being a total chump.

Before starting negotiating, have a mental maximum price in mind. Otherwise, you will get emotionally attached and invested in the process and end up regretting a purchase.

Don’t express too much interest. Even if they can’t understand everything you’re saying, they’re watching your reactions.

Don’t be quick to counter-offer — use silence and see if he drops the price first (also gives you a psychological edge). Be reluctant to state any price and keep working his price down. Eventually, offer a much lower price (somewhere around 20-50% of their first price). In this scenario, let’s say you offer Y100. Don’t be quick to counter-offer or assume you’re getting a good deal just because he’s meeting you in the middle.

Don’t let them “anchor” you with their first price. Sellers love to use this psychological anchoring trick by starting with a grossly inflated price in order to fool customers into thinking that they’re getting a deal after some haggling. For example, if their lowest price is Y50, they’ll start with Y200.

Merchants are professional sellers — they’re haggling with tons of customers every day. Bargaining is second-nature for them (unlike for most Westerners). So don’t get too worked up if you still end up paying more than the Chinese price. Don’t feel embarrassed or guilty for haggling. It’s part of their culture and they fully expect customers — both Chinese and foreign — to drive a hard bargain.

Don’t take any of it personally. They’re also viewing it as a business transaction and are emotionally detached. Sometimes they’ll make a big show about pretending to be offended by your counter-offer — don’t feel bad, it’s all part of the game. Hate the game, not the player.

Think outside the box for other points of negotiation if you’re at a point where there’s no more price movement. For example, if you’re buying a bigger item, ask if they’ll throw in some cheaper gift item.

Your biggest advantage is TIME. No one is forcing you to make a decision on the spot — you’re free to leave and comparison shop (and he/she has to risk whether you’ll come back). Also, you always have the option of coming back later and deciding to buy. So avoid the (above) “one-off” bargaining scenarios, especially for higher-ticket items.

Assuming that you can find a similar item elsewhere — and aren’t leaving town immediately — you can often get a better price by actually walking away in order to “test” his walk-away price (i.e. to get a better idea of actual price). In other words, haggle with a few different sellers by literally walking away to get a better sense of the “local price”.

As you walk out, act casual and give him ample opportunity to continue to drop the price (you can as well say something like, “Okay, tomorrow, tomorrow!”). But make sure to keep your counteroffer sufficiently low, otherwise it might higher than his lowest price and he might accept it!In the same scenario, let’s say the last price he offered as you walked away was Y180 (much closer to his absolute lowest price of Y150). Now you have a baseline price and a better idea of the fair market rate. Then you can use this information to negotiate more intelligently with seller B (say, by sticking to your guns at Y130). If you have the time, repeat this walk-away process with other sellers. After you’ve gathered a few actual walk-away prices, you can feel confident that you got a good price.

RomanceAlone And Angry: Chinese Singles Declare War On Valentine's Day. by spymybox(op): 9:22pm On Feb 16, 2015
Valentine's Day is known worldwide as a time to celebrate love and romance. But the upcoming holiday is also notorious for reminding many "singletons"of their lack of a significant other.

Instead of moping and feeling left out, many Chinese singles decided to join each other in a crusade against the love birds — proof that the singles are not alone in the festival after all.

Here is some advice posted online by some love-starved online activists on how to sabotage Valentine's Day for those lovey-dovey dates:

Buy up the odd-numbered seats for movies so the cooing lovers can't sit together.

Book up all double rooms in hotels so the lovers will have no place to spend the night.

Crumb chocolate and puncture condoms in supermarkets.

Walk up to a couple on the street, slapping either of them in the face and crying out "How could you cheat on me?

Take a part-time job to deliver flowers and throw half the bouquets away.

A café in Luzhou, Sichuan province announced proudly in its Weibo account that couples are not welcome on Valentine's Day, while singles will receive a 10 percent discount in the shop.

"Won't it be dangerous to slap a stranger on street?"
Hechiyxie cautioned, calling on people to avoid a possible violent encounter in the upcoming Chinese spring festival.

Technology MarketChina To Regulate Online Group Buying. by spymybox(op): 11:55am On Feb 16, 2015
China will regulate the thriving online group buying market to protect customer interests and boost the sector's sound development, according to a circular issued on Wednesday.
The State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) said in the posting on its website that problems like deceiving customers, selling fake products and artificially raising original prices are arising frequently as the industry becomes popular in China.

"Disputes and complaints related to online group buying have seen a sharp rise," the administration noted.
The SAIC urged local authorities to examine the qualification of online group buying providers and supervise them to fulfill their liabilities.
Local authorities should also intensify their work to crack down on illegal activities by service providers, it said.
According to a report released earlier this month by China E-Commerce Research Center, a total of 300 million people participated in online group buying in China in 2014, up 35.5 percent from a year earlier.
However, complaints about the industry accounted for 25 percent of all e-commerce complaints in 2013-2014, according to another report released Wednesday by the same research institution.

Technology MarketMechanical Phone Aims To Become 21st Century Pocket Watch For Business Men. by spymybox(op): 1:01pm On Feb 13, 2015
Paris-based Celsius X VI II has launched its mobile phone — the LeDix Origine — reportedly the first to operate mechanically. The device's engineering intricacy brings its price tag to a whopping €250,000 (US$325,000); 15 of the 18 mobile phones made for the initial LeDix Origine release have been sold so far.

The idea behind the luxury handset can be traced back to 2005, when company co-founder Thomas Pruvot was on a long-haul flight to Hong Kong. He checked the time frequently while his mobile phone was switched off for the trip.

Then he was struck with an idea: the ultimate accessory would combine the functionality of both the modern handset and centuries-old watch-making. He started Celsius X VI II with a friend and developed a titanium and sapphire crystal handset featuring a complicated mechanical watch.

As consumers rely more and more on their phones to check the time, Celsius hopes handsets can use mechanical power to solve the problem of limited battery life.

"Handset has become the ultimate accessory. Our product is the pocket watch of the 21st century," said Edouard Meylan, another co-founder.

According to data from Euromonitor International, the market for luxury handset will grow 37% between 2010 and 2015, to US$719 million. China, Japan, the Middle East, Russia and Africa will be the biggest markets for the handsets.

Euromonitor data also shows that the Nokia Vertu has the largest share of the luxury handset market. Perry Oosting, Vertu president, said the company has sold 300,000 luxury phones in the past ten years. Vertu phones can cost up to €12,500 (US$16,250).

Yet Carolina Milanese, a vice president of research at information provider Gartner, said that many celebrities are migrating from Vertu to iPhones with diamond-encrusted cases.

BusinessThe Founder Of Alibaba, Teaches On How To Be Successful. by spymybox(op): 11:10pm On Feb 10, 2015
Billionaire Jack Ma, the founder and ex-CEO of Alibaba Group, as well as one of the most successful Chinese Internet entrepreneurs, shares his wealth of experiences.

Jack Ma: The mistake I regretted the most
In 2001, I made a mistake. I told 18 of my fellow comrades whom embarked on the entrepreneurship journey with me that the highest positions they could go was a managerial role. To fill all our Vice President and Senior Executive positions, we would have to hire from external parties.
Years later, those I hired were gone, but those whom I doubted their abilities became Vice Presidents or Directors.
I believe in two principles: Your attitude is more important than your capabilities. Similarly, your decision is more important than your capabilities!
Jack Ma: You cannot unify everyone’s thoughts, but you can unify everyone through a common goal.
Don’t even trust that you are able to unify what everyone is thinking; it is impossible.
30% of all people will never believe you. Do not allow your colleagues and employees to work for you. Instead, let them work for a common goal.
It is a lot easier to unite the company under a common goal rather than uniting the company around a particular person.
Jack Ma: What does a leader have that an employee doesn’t?
A leader should never compare his technical skills with his employee’s. Your employee should have superior technical skills than you. If he doesn’t, it means you have hired the wrong person.
What, then, makes the leader stands out?
A leader should be a visionary and have more foresight than an employee.
A leader should have higher grit and tenacity, and be able to endure what the employees can’t.
A leader should have higher endurance and ability to accept and embrace failure.
The quality of a good leader therefore is his vision, tenacity, and his capability.
Jack Ma: Don’t be involved in politics
One should always understand that money and political power can never go hand in hand. Once you are in politics, don’t ever think about money anymore. Once you are running a business, don’t ever think of being involved in politics.
When money meets political power, it is similar to a match meeting an explosive- waiting to go off.
Jack Ma: The 4 main questions the young generation must ponder on
What is failure: Giving up is the greatest failure.
What is resilience: Once you have been through hardships, grievances and disappointments, only then will you understand what is resilience.
What your duties are: To be more diligent, hardworking, and ambitious than others.
Only fools use their mouth to speak. A smart man uses his brain, and a wise man uses his heart.
Jack Ma: We are born to live and experience life.
I always tell myself that we are born here not to work, but to enjoy life. We are here to make things better for one another, and not to work. If you are spending your whole life working, you will certainly regret it.
No matter how successful you are in your career, you must always remember that we are here to live. If you keep yourself busy working, you will surely regret it.
Jack Ma on competing and competition
Those that compete aggressively with one another are the foolish ones.
If you view everyone as your enemies, everyone around you will be your enemies.
When you are competing with one another, don’t bring hatred along. Hatred will take you down.
Competition is similar to playing a board of chess. If you lose, we can always have another round. Both players should never fight.
A real businessman or entrepreneur has no enemies. Once he understand this, the sky’s the limit.
Jack Ma: Don’t make complaining and whining a habit
If you complain or whine once in a while, it is not a big deal.
However, if it becomes habitual, it will be similar to drinking: the more you drink, the stronger the thirst. On the path to success, you will notice that the successful ones are not whiners, nor do they complain often.
The world will not remember what you say, but it will certainly not forget what you have done.
Jack Ma’s advice to entrepreneurs
The opportunities that everyone cannot see are the real opportunities.
Always let your employees come to work with a smile.
Customers should be number 1, Employees number 2, and then only your Shareholders come at number 3.
Adopt and change before any major trends or changes.
Forget the money; Forget about earning money.
Rather than having small smart tricks to get by, focus on holding on and persevering.
Your attitude determines your altitude.

BusinessWine Market In Guangzhou China. by spymybox(op): 11:01pm On Feb 10, 2015
Guangzhou, both economic center of South China and Pearl River Delta, the most prosperous area in China, is also transfer station connecting two international trade ports, Hongkong and Macao with mainland China.

There is a resident population of 15,000,000 and floating population of 8,000,000 in Guangzhou. Among the floating population, there are not only businessmen and migrant workers from around China, but also a lot of people from abroad, Africa, Europe, USA and the rest of the world. These consumers from abroad have not only promoted economic and cultural exchange between Guangzhou and abroad but also boosted the fast development of wine market in Guangzhou. In more and more business negotiation and meetings.

In Guangzhou, there are over 400 star-rated hotels at present and will reach 600 two years later. In addition, there are over 5000 restaurants above Grade C, 400 bars and clubs, over 3000 large-scale shopping malls and supermarkets, over 2000 small and medium-scale shopping malls and supermarkets, over 10,000 cigarette and wine franchised stores and specialized wine wholesale markets.

In 2014, total wine consumption in Guangdong Province amounted to 10 billion yuan, among which Guangzhou had a market share of nearly 5 billion yuan. Of the 1 billion yuan market share, nearly all top-grade wine was imported. Most domestic wine was middle and lower grade products with a priceless than 80 yuan.

2 Market

There is a great variety of wine in Guangzhou, including dry red wine, dry white wine, sparkling wine and ice wine etc.

As Guangdong is not fit for grape planting, there is no local wine. There are mainly four kinds of wine products in Guangzhou. The first one is imported wine completely produced in foreign countries, including high-quality wine from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, U.S.A., Canada, Chile, Argentina and Australia. The second kind is foreign brand wine which is packaged in China with imported grape juice. The third kind is wine produced in other areas of China. In addition to three major brands, Great Wall, Dynasty and Changyu, there are also such Grade-B and Grade-C brands as Suntime, Weilong, Baiyang River, Helan Mountain, Jinxiuzhuangyuan, and Golden Great Wall. It can be said that nearly all wine from all production areas can be found here. The fourth kind is OEM wine produced in the above-mentioned area by Guangdong businessmen.

The market share of domestic brand is close to that of imported brand. Among domestic brands, Great Wall, with Zhongliang Great Wall, Huaxia Great Wall and Tantai Great Wall as its members, enjoy a relatively large market share.

In addition, Changyu, Great Wall and Dynasty, with its popularity and reputation, have been the strong brands in Guangdong. The major reason why current quantity of imported wine is less than nationally famous wine is that imported wine is mostly produced in foreign wineries with limited capacity and output, so it¡¯s difficult for them to invest much in promotion and popularization. They are popularized mainly with words-of-mouth. Therefore, customers don¡¯t know what standard to follow when facing dozens of, even hundreds of foreign brand wine.

On top of that, medium and high grade wine has been consumption mainstream. In addition to wine completely imported from abroad, domestic vintage wine has also been greatly favored. For example, such high-end products as Chanyu and Castel Chateau have been more popular with domestic consumers.

3 Consumers
Impacted by economic development and cultural environment, wine consumers are mainly white-collar people with high salary, rich knowledge and good taste, for example, foreign trade personnel and creative directors etc. They are major consumers of wine, medium and high grade wine and imported wine, in particular.
Furthermore, thanks to long ¨Cterm popularization, more and more consumers, including local senior citizens have begun to drink wine in daily life. The wine is mainly domestic wine priced at between 25-50 yuan.

All imported brands have staged frequent wine tasting and promotion activities one after another. The participants of these wine tasting activities are generally embassies personnel of relevant countries, government officials, exclusive agents, consumers, wine associations as well as professional media etc. They attach greater importance to potential market in China, so their promotion focuses more on culture instead of anxious business invitation and marketing.

4 Market channel
The major marketing channels for variety of domestic wine are shopping malls, restaurants under Grade B and Grade C, cigarette and wine franchised stores and main marketing channels for imported wine are hotels above four-star hotel, bars and night clubs, Grade-A restaurants, imported wine franchised stores and clubs etc.

Jointek Fine Wines has been a trend leader in wine business by being dedicated in supplying imported wines to its customers. Jointek has kept on importing wines directly from their original countries, such as France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, U.S.A.,Chile, Argentina and Australia. Jointek Fine Wines owns a big warehouse with constant tenperature as a combination of warehouse and display hall so as to guarantee constantly stable quality. It has chain stores in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Donguan, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu and Fujian etc. It has set up convenient and fast E-business platform and has developed strong and stable cooperation partners.
Shine Wine Club, jointly established by China Fashion Association etc., explores wine culture and fashionable lifestyle.

t’s believed Guangzhou has some 30,000 African residents, the majority of whom hail from Nigeria.
Life isn’t always easy for them in Guangzhou, which has been nicknamed “Chocolate City“. There has even been some friction between Nigerians and the local police department, particularly after a Nigerian man allegedly jumped to his death after being cornered by police in 2013/ 2014.
Discrimination and abuse of Africans in China is not new. Today it is difficult to hide. The story is the same on the continent of Africa itself. There has been several reports of Chinese managers abusing their African workers without any repercussions.
