arcbay:arcbay I most say you really went in details in making your opinion known and giving an advice to this. Nice aspiration op but as arcbay mentioned on nornals you can only see stray dogs being our resident local breeds on every corner of the streets on rare ocasions can u find an exorthic breed which hardly happens. If you try to establish a dog rescue team here in Nigeria you would only end up with a park of Nigeria local resident dogs. How many Nigerians are ready to buy or keep a local dog as a pet in there homes talk more of adopting it it's almost impossible the only things most people care about in a dog is either is an English dog or an imported breed it makes me wonder if they really love the dog or its only keeping it as security or breed them in order to make money The truth is that the love most developed countries have for there Animals especially k9's is totally different from that of Nigeria. Although The love for k9's in Nigeria is growing fast in Nigeria but only for exorthic breeds Hardly you find a person ready to show concern for any local resident Nigeria dogs that's why you find them at all coners of the streets struggling to survive |

dorcky:Nice cane corso's you have there I most say it's hard to come across good cane corso's in Nigeria many people even some breeders easily mistake them for boerbel's and bull mastiff. No doubt under the mastiff family too cane Corso's are also regarded as large breed dogs Originating from italy The Cane Corso, pronounced kha-neh kor-so from Italian Cane and Corso, also known as the Italian Mastiff, is a large Italian breed of dog, for years valued highly in Italy as a companion, Guard dog and hunter This Italian mastiff was bred to hunt wild boar and today acts as a guard dog. Fiercely devoted to his family, he doesn't care for strangers or small animals. More athletic and agile than other mastiffs, he’ll sit at your feet with impressive weight. To me The Cane Corso is not an appropriate choice for an inexperienced dog owner. First-time dog owners and people who have had only “soft” breeds such as retrievers, spaniels, or toy breeds need not apply. This dog is large, powerful, intelligent, active, and headstrong. A Cane Corso needs a leader who can guide him with firmness and consistency without using force or cruelty. The Cane Corso loves his family, but he’s not demonstrative about it. He will want to be near you, but he’s not demanding in terms of attention or physical touch. Early, frequent socialization is essential because this breeds can get extremely territorial and aggressive toward strangers and could easily inflict serious damage Life span: 10 – 11 years Higher classification: Dog Temperament: Even Tempered, Reserved, Calm, Quiet, Stable, Trainable Weight: Female: 90–130 lbs Male: 110-150lbs Colors: Black, Red, Grey, Fawn, Black Brindle, Chestnut Brindle Height: Female: 23–26 inches (58–66 cm), Male: 24–28 inches (62–70 cm) |
FINALLY 1) BREED: TIBETAN MASTIFF MORE PICTURES For the sake of those that called enquiring about the prize and Tibetan mastiff breeders here in Nigeria Tibetan mastiff are extremely expensive packed with the high cost of maintanance of there hairs and fur not mentioning the fact that getting a pure breed Tibetan mastiff here in Nigeria is very difficult so don't expect the prize to come easy The world most expensive dog was a China tibetan mastiff that was reportedly sold for 2million USD dollars that is about 3.9million naira in Nigeria Currency very close to 4million for just one dog So in excess the prize of Tibetan mastiff may differ from one kennel to another depending on breeder or sellers personal opinions Prize inflation may occur also depending on quality, cost of importation and good pedegree traceable from long linage of champion bloodlines To the main Question?? How much does a Pure Tibetan mastiff puppy cost in Nigeria? ANSWER!!! Though am not a breeder so I am only giving assumptions based on Tibetan mastiff sale I have witness and Heard from people who breed them Black & Tan 250-450k (May be Higher depending on Pedigree And Quality) Golden Red & Red Gold 300-700k( May also be Higher Depending On Quality and Pedigree) Thank you

I feel ur pain take heart it's one of those things..this not the first time such things are happenin neither would it be the last The fact that you bought those puppies as low as 10k ur expectations shouldn't be high 10k is not even enough to buy a pure breed German sheperd, talkless of a caucasian cross breed To me I would say u keep the puppies love and care for them irrespective of there breed and make budget next time for ur desired puppies this time from a reputable breeder so as not to be fooled again |

adahgold:There is a great difference between the tibetan mastiff and the chow chow lemme start with the chow chow The Chow Chow is a dog breed originally from northern China, where it is referred to as Songshi Quan, which means "puffy-lion dog". The breed has also been called the Tang Quan, "Dog of the Tang Empire." The Chow Chow is a large, stocky dog. The two most distinctive features of the Chow Chow are its blue-black tongue and its almost straight hind legs, which makes it walk rather stilted. The head is large and broad with a flat skull. The muzzle is broad and deep. There is a huge ruff behind the head, which gives it a lion-like s large, stocky dog. The two most distinctive features of the Chow Chow are its blue-black tongue and its almost straight hind legs, which makes it walk rather stilted. The head is large and broad with a flat skull. The muzzle is broad and deep. There is a huge ruff behind the head, which gives it a lion-like Chow chow are generally not aggresive breeds they are good with children and are perfect for family dogs personally to me I recommend this breed for first time owners and as family dogs Life span: 9 – 12 years size Classification: medium Temperament: Aloof, Loyal, Quiet, Independent Height: Male: 19–22 inches (48–56 cm), Female: 18–20 inches (46–51 cm) Weight: Male: 55–71 lbs (25–32 kg), Female: 44–60 lbs (20–27 kg) Colors: Black, Blue, Red, Fawn, Cream while The Tibetan mastiff: The Tibetan Mastiff is a massive, giant dog with sturdy bone structure. The body is slightly longer than tall. The somewhat wrinkled head is broad, heavy and strong. The broad muzzle is square when viewed from all sides. The large nose is black. The teeth meet in a scissors or level bite. The upper lip usually covers the lower lip. The slightly slanting eyes are almond shaped, deep-set and medium in size Tibetan mastiff are classified under the masttif family are they can grow extremely large if well taken care of also Tibetan Mastiff are very courageous, fearless, even-tempered, calm and thoughtful. Very loyal to its own family. Tends to bark at night if left outside, but will be quiet indoors. It is an outstanding flock guardian and is ferocious against wolves, leopards or any prey that try to approach its flock. Tibetan mastiff are Great dog breeds to own but unfortunately very view kennels breed them here In Nigeria coupled the there high cost of purchase and maintanance this breeds is definately not for first time owner like I said I recommend this breed for experienced owners I hope this helps you understan there differences |

1) BREED: TIBETAN MASTIFF The Tibetan Mastiff is a type of large Tibetan dog breed. Originating with the nomadic cultures of China, India, Mongolia, Nepal and Tibet, its use by local tribes of Himachal Pradesh was to protect sheep from wolves, leopards, bears, large mustelids, and tigers, not much is actually known about the tibetan mastiff dog in Nigeria because very view kennels breed them here but one thing is for sure they can grow extremely large and are often mistake to be lions because of there hairy nature and lion- like look Getting a pure pedigree tibetan mastiff is very difficult here in Nigeria unless imported the sheer size and look of the tibetan mastiff is enough to send intruders off ur lane and neighbour parking tibetan mastiff are extremely large and expensive therefore this dog breeds are recommended for only experience dog owners and breeders who know what it takes AVERAGE HEIGHT: 25-35 inches WEIGHT: 140-300 pounds COLOUR: Black, Blue Gray, Brown & Tan, Black & Tan, Red Gold, Brown

2) BREED: CAUCASAIN OVCHARKA The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is a large breed of dog that is popular in Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and North Caucasus area. This breed is actually my favourite amongs all they are generally regarded as large breeds dogs they appear in different shapes and sizes they vary in size some grow extremely large males can easily top 300 ibs depending on environmental factor, bloodline and the type and quality of food provided for them. Caucasian ovcharka don't actually do very well in Nigeria because of the extreme hot whether condition which doesn't favour there furs and hairy nature inherited by the breed. Caucaisn Ovcharka are known to be very teritorial and could easily inflict serious damage on humans if not properly socialised personally I recommend this breed for people who are security causious and keeping intruders away from there home caucasian ovcharka should be properly socailize and tought basic obidence training early enough from puppy hood owners are therefore advice to take charge as leader of the park else the dominant nature of the caucasian could be a serious problem because of there very large size and bulkyness they tend to be very stubborn and may often mistake themselves as leaders of the park AVERAGE HEIGHT: 24-35 inches WEIGHT: 110-300 ibs COLOURS: Black, White, Rust, Grey, Fawn, Cream

Good day ladies and gentlemen today am going to be pointing out the top 5 largest dog breeds that are available in Nigeria, a lot of research has being made and brains of some experienced dog breeders and experts in Nigeria has being put together in determing the 5 largest dog breeds we have here in Nigeria, gone are the days were man's best friends are not valued, cared for and treated nicely in the society most people now see there dogs and pets like part of the family which is very correct like I once Quoted I see a very bright future in Dog breeding in Nigeria a lot of importations has being made over the years by some devoted breeders and lots of breeds which were initially not available in Nigeria has been made available I see a bright future in K9 breeding in Nigeria I see a time were one would no longer need to import to get a pedigree puppy he or she may desire. Firstly in determing the 5 largest dog breeds in Nigeria a lot of features has to be put in consideration some important features includes -Height -weight -Body structure -Bone size -size of paws -Head structure -Bulkyness all this features combine to determine the top 5 biggest and most importantly the dog must be available in Nigeria to be considered a contestant to be in the list of the Big 5, which means some dogs which are extremely large but are not available in Nigeria may be excluded from the list. Enough talking let's go straight to business like the old saying picture is worth a thousand words so I tried my best to make sure all pictures being posted on this thread were taken here in Nigerian DISCLAIMER: I am in no way or manner assuming ownership of any Dog being posted here I am only a dog lover with compassion for this majestical animals who see's the relevant of pointing out the top 5 breeds available in Nigeria in order to help people in determing the largest and best dog breed to suit them since size matters in Guarding. All pictures being posted here are courtesy of there different kennels and belongs to the respective owners and breeders in Nigeria thankyou. 5) BREED: BOERBEL The Boerboel also known as the South African Mastiff, is a large, Molosser-type breed from South Africa bred They have impressive muscular head structure and short mutts they are generally regarded as guard dogs and are very teritorial arround there home The body is blocky, muscular and solid, with good depth and width. The back is broad and straight, with pronounced muscles. The ribcage is well sprung and well filled behind the shoulder blades. The coat is short, dense, smooth and shiny. The skin is thick and loose but fits smoothly Skin is well pigmented. Boerbel are very popular dog breeds in Nigeria and are strong willed with motive to guard and defend what belongs to them if not properly socailize then you are in for something big because when they attack they inflict a lot of damage to who ever they may see as treat to there family and property in summary Boerbel are very energetic large and extremely teritorial I wouldn't recommend this breeds for first time owners AVERAGE HEIGHT:24-27 inches WEIGHT: 120-180 pounds COLOURS: Mahogany, Red, Fawn, Brindle, Cream, Brown, Piebal

TheArcher:I beg to disagree with that statement research shows that basenji are one of the noisest/untrainable dog breeds the world has ever known. I see no reason why u think basenji don't bark they are extremely noisy breeds and barks almost all the time |
