Please I have a somewhat similar issue. My 2009 Nissan Rogue has a peculiar issue. If am traveling, after about an hour on the highway, the car will experience difficulty accelerating, especially uphill as I noticed. It can't even do 40km/hr sometimes. But if I stop and turn off ignition, the car will drive normal if I restart it after about five minutes. I have gotten different diagnosis but same thing continues afterwards. |

WetinConsignMe: Here is what jamesversion just posted:
"Chidinma is the spelling for me. First time I saw someone's name spelt as Chidimma was some few years back, and believe me, I thought it was a typographical error. I showed this thread to a friend and he concurred that Chidinma is the correct spelling... but what do I know!!!"
So as more and more Igbos decide that Chidinma looks and sounds better that becomes the correct spelling. That's how a living language "grows", evolves. I just saw your response to echelons where you stated "It is different in Language. A foot will always be 12 ins. But in Language e.g. Chidinma is evolving to become the standard/correct spelling no longer Chidimma. " Now that shows you clearly accepted that Chidimma is the correct as Chidinma 'is ONLY evolving TO BECOME the standard'. Well, the sweet thing is language is dynamic. But till we get to the stage where the later becomes generally accepted, the former remains the correct. That was the question. No one, including me can stop language evolution, but at every point there will always be a norm. That is the point. Hence, Chidinma is from borrowed spelling and is being used by a few; MAY grow to become a norm, but not yet. Thank you. |
Culture › Re: Chidinma Or Chidimma? by stanjohn57: 10:35pm On Oct 29, 2017 |
WetinConsignMe: Here is what somebody posted:
Do not be deceived, Chidimma is the correct one. The fact that everyone has been wrongly spelling it Chidinma for a long time does not make it correct.
And here is my reply:
Exactly the opposite. That's exactly what makes Chidinma the correct version. That's how language works.
Here is another post if mine:
Language is by usage. Whatever the vast majority of people are doing is correct. Afterall why should t be in kitchen. Makes no sense EXCEPT that's how everybody writes it. If everybody starts dropping that t that would become the correct spelling.
Makes sense now? OK, I think I can see what your argument is. But then, in a situation where majority still know the difference and retain it, will that validate or invalidate your argument? I know many family members and friends who correctly spell their name as Chidimma, should they do away with it since some people have erroneously written theirs as Nma? Will both be correct? Or should we wait till the wrongs are in the majority so as to do away with the right? |
Culture › Re: Chidinma Or Chidimma? by stanjohn57: 10:15pm On Oct 29, 2017 |
WetinConsignMe: All this is so because you and your academic cohorts say it is so, abi? When did I agree to any of this. If most Igbos prefer Chidinma then Chidinma is correct. That's how language works. Afterall King James English was the "correct" English of it's day . Sorry, but I can't remember anybody saying you agreed. There is a strict difference between preference and correct. That I said 12noon is night in Nigeria, is strictly my choice/preference which no one can compel me to change, but that does not make it correct 'by the rules of my academic cohorts'. As at today, if you can give an evolved authority which says ...Nma has become correct and prove it beyond reasonable doubts; not with 'what most prefer', I will gladly accept your views. We are all students of life aren't we? So go ahead and do that please. |

How could people be so proud of ignorance and still throw insults? At least we are in a world where information is more accessible. The 'consonants' N & M have two functions in Igbo Language. They function as mgbochi ume (consonants) as well as myiri uda ume (vowel forms). And when they are myiri uda ume, the next alphabet is a consonant. Each of the two have the consonants (mgbochi ume) that goes with it. 'N' as myiri uda ume never goes with M as a vowel. I know this might be heartbreaking and difficult for people who have been writing their names wrongly from when they were born, but no need arguing or calling names. Simply do a research. Afterall we are in information age. In this contest, there is no such as Chidinma in Igbo. It was rather a bastardised from such words as Funmi which are not Igbo. Chidimma is the only correct. Engage me in a civil way if you think otherwise. I promise to put you through if I have the time. |

Best analysis especially as related to the banks named, which I happen to be with one. Denn: The moment a bank expects young grads to get in funds at any cost, integrity and professionalism is sacrificed.
The most promoted bankers are not the best bankers....they are people who can meet set targets.
Overtime, we get people who can just bring in deposits or roll over term loans in higher positions. The real professionals are frustrated out.
Banking is more than just getting in deposits or booking loans.
That is why we have a lot of bad loans in the system. The real intelligent bankers have been frustrated out. Cowboys now reign supreme.
I look at some products developed by banks and can only laugh. Where is the innovation?
I attend MPRs and listen to the jumbles being read by the unit heads. Deposits....deposits....deposits....
Some jackal will even abuse parents of low deposit scavengers.
A paradigm shift is required. Focus should be on profit via professional service and not on vacuuming all the deposits in the country just to play at the interbank market.
What is zenith bank doing to help the SMEs for example. How many dark skinned girls do you see in Zenith Bank? Is banking excellence dependent on your skin colour and skirt lenght? Must I look sexy to be a banker ?
What is diamond bank doing to reduce the enormous visa credit card bad debts booked from relentless 'marketing'. Did they not learn from ecobank's mistake using the same template?
Why is Stanbic focused on temporary makeshift branches with very few relationship officers? Relationship is key and should constitute the main workforce....not expatriates in the head office.
Why should a banker earn 25k monthly. Should he even be a temporary staff? A bank thrives on fiduciary relationships. At least your worker must trust that he will have his job permanently. Else, he uses your internet access to search for job. DSA my foot
The whole cauldron of ineffective 'marketing' must be thrown away and new processes must be adopted. |
