A 37-year-old man in Riau province, Indonesia not only survived his encounter with a 7-meter python but killed the snake as well.

Robert Nababan, a resident of the Indagiri Hulu regency of Riau, is currently receiving treatment in a hospital after claiming that he wrestled with the gigantic snake.

He only suffered deep cuts on his left arm and fingers from the python’s bite, as well as exhaustion.

Speaking to reporters, Robert said that he was driving home on his motorcycle from his job as a security guard at a palm oil plantation near his village on Saturday evening.

He then came across two pedestrians who wanted to cross the road but stopped in their tracks when they saw the python lying in the middle of the road.

“I tried to catch it (the python). It bit my arm, and we wrestled for a while,” Robert said, as quoted by Detik today.

Unfortunately, before Robert could go on with his story, his family kicked out the journalists who were reporting on the story from the hospital room so that Robert could get some rest.

The animal’s carcass is being kept as a trophy in Robert’s village, where its long body is tied between two trees for everyone, including children, to see.

FashionLady Spent 23-years Growing Her Nails. Crowned 2018 Longest Fingernails by STANPASQUAL(op): 6:05pm On Sep 14, 2017
A nail artist who has spent 23 years growing her nails which takes a week to paint, has been crowned with title of the world’s longest fingernails by Guinness World Records.

A nail artist from Houston, Texas, identified as Ayanna Williams, has been crowned with the title of the world’s longest fingernails by the 2018 Guinness World Records, and in total her nails measure more than 18 feet long, each of which is just under two foot long.

She has also revealed that the most challenging thing about having extremely long fingernails, which can take up to one week to paint, is pulling up her trousers.

While she’s constantly getting lots of attention for her nails, and knows she is rather unique, her friends and family think it’s quite normal.

In order to take care of her nails, Ayanna uses anti-bacterial soap and a nail brush to clean them daily. And to help them grow, she regularly applies hardener and a thin layer of acrylic.

‘To let my children know that anything they want to accomplish can be done. It takes courage, discipline and patience but it can be accomplished,’ said Ayanna on her reason for applying for the record.

‘I am elated and honoured. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d make it into the Guinness World Records books!’

PoliticsPeter Obi Didn’t Make Me Governor — Obiano by STANPASQUAL(op): 12:06pm On Aug 25, 2017
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has said the perception that his predecessor, Mr Peter Obi, made him governor is wrong.

He said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, shortly after he emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Asked how he expects to succeed in his reelection bid having reportedly fallen out with some of those who were key to his emergence as governor, including Peter Obi, he said it was up to God and not one man.

“First, it is God that makes the king. Again, let me also correct this impression; Peter (Obi), the former Governor, cannot on his own make me the governor if the former chairman of the party or the whole party did not agree. So, it is a wrong perception to think that one person can come and make you a candidate,” he said.

He, however, acknowledged that the former governor played a role in getting him elected.

“But having said that, he (Obi) helped us during the campaign, ran around and all those stuff, but I have established myself firmly through my performance and that is what people listen to.

“I don’t believe in godfatherism and you can see how I played it out. I am a very straightforward, no-nonsense, very focused, very visionary leader and I don’t need to climb the back of anybody. My performance this past three-and-a-half years is stellar,” he added.

The emergence of the governor as the sole candidate of the party, which is witnessing a leadership tussle between Victor Oye and Martin Agbaso has not been without criticism.

Tuesday’s primary was organised by the Oye-led faction and saw the governor emerge as the party’s flag-bear having been the sole aspirant in the primary.

In a phone interview, also on Politics Today, factional APGA chairman Agbaso said the primary was unconstitutional.

“I always say that the key to unlocking Nigeria’s progress is the rule of law so you can say that what happened today is quite an abuse of the law and constitution of this country,” Agbaso said.

“The Supreme Court is very clear on this matter that only the National Working Committee of a party can conduct primaries into any office. Now the leadership of APGA as an order of court rests under my control, I am the Chairman of APGA.”

Governor Obiano, however, dismissed the claim, saying Agbaso is “a non-issue” and has no say in the activities of the party.

He said, “We have only one National Chairman and that chairman is Victor Oye; Agbaso is not a member of APGA so I am not worried about Agbaso at all. Agbaso is like a Nigerian going to the Republic of Benin to meet a judge to get a mandamus order to become the President of Ghana. That is what it is looking like and such things don’t work.”

“Agbaso is like a Nigerian going to the Republic of Benin to meet a judge to get a mandamus order to become the President of Ghana. That is what it is looking like and such things don’t work.”

Apart from the leadership tussle in the party, some critics of the governor have accused him of using his position to muzzle party members with similar ambition, in effect nullifying competition on the party’s platform.

This, according to them, is why the governor was unopposed in the primary.

But Governor Obiano said there is no truth to such talks.

“That is not correct; every due process was followed and people were given the opportunity to participate. But with my intimidating performance, you probably will expect that some people will be scared to pick the form. And that is exactly what happened. There is nothing like using my office to muzzle people from running. That is an unfortunate comment,” he said.

Several parties are expected to field candidates for the November 18 elections and the ruling All Progressives Congress will also be keen to win one of the South-East states.

Consequently, the election is expected to be closely contested. But having clinched his party’s ticket, Governor Obiano who described his performance in office as stellar is not willing to consider the possibility that he may have a fight on his hands.

“This is going to be one of the easiest election ever contested and I am going to win this election by a landslide. I don’t have anybody contesting with me,” he said.

PoliticsKano Govt Behind My Defection Rumour -kwakwanso by STANPASQUAL(op): 3:52pm On Aug 16, 2017
A former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso has accused Umar Ganduje-led government of being behind the reports of his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Kwakwanso made this known while debunking the reports that he defected with some of his loyalists to the former ruling party.

Kwankwaso, a member of the national Assembly, described the report as “malicious story” meant to tarnish his image.

Kwankwaso’s chief of staff, Aminu Abdussalam, who spoke to newsmen on Tuesday, said the report was “totally unfounded.”

He said the senator and his supporters had not at any time thought of leaving the APC.

According to him, the Kano State government planted the story to cause disaffection among his supporters after the national leadership of the APC recognised the leadership of Umar Doguwa as the legitimate chairman of the party in the state.

According to him, “We have not at any time contemplated leaving the APC. We were surprised and deeply appalled when we read the story.

“The story was planted by Kano State government and some political opponents who are threatened by the mass followership Senator Kwankwaso enjoys nationwide.

“Kano State government was the one that planted the same story last year, and its agents are still the same characters spreading the false story.

“They are angry that the national leadership of our great party, the APC, has endorsed the Umar Doguwa-led chairmanship of the party in Kano and dismissed their sham congresses.”

PoliticsBillionaire Kidnapper, Evans Wins First Case In Court by STANPASQUAL(op): 3:42pm On Aug 16, 2017
Popular kidnap kingpin has cruised to a subtle victory in the court of law as he presents a case of the abuse of fundamental human rights against the police.

Justice Abdulaziz Anka of a Lagos Federal High Court on Wednesday ordered that the fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans against the Nigeria Police Force will proceed.

Anka gave the ruling while dismissing the objections of counsel to the Nigeria Police Force, Emmanuel Eze, during proceedings in Evans’ N300m suit.

The judge agreed with Counsel to Evans, Olukoya Ogungbeje that service on the first and second respondents in the case had been properly effected.

The first and second respondents in the suit are the Inspector General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force. The other respondents are the Lagos State Police Commissioner and the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS.

Justice Anka also ruled that leave was not required for the matter to be heard during vacation as Order 4 Rule 5 of the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules of 2009, enjoins the court to pursue speed and justice on issues of fundamental human rights.

Evans, through his lawyer had filed a N300m lawsuit against the police, challenging his continued detention since June 10 without arraignment.

The billionaire kidnapper is asking the court to award him N300m as exemplary damages for his alleged illegal detention and the alleged harm caused by his media trial.

SportsChampions League Match That Made Neymar Quit Barcelona Revealed by STANPASQUAL(op): 2:57pm On Aug 16, 2017
Neymar decided to leave Barcelona this summer, after the Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain, when they produced one of the most remarkable comebacks in the history of the competition.

Barca scored three goals in the final seven minutes, to secure a sensational 6-5 aggregate victory over the Ligue 1 side.

Neymar was the chief catalyst for the impressive display, scoring the first two of those late goals, before assisting Sergi Roberto’s winner with a chipped pass.

However, the next day, the Spanish press carried a dramatic image which quickly went viral: Lionel Messi in a Messiah-like pose, standing on the advertising boards to celebrate the victory as awestruck fans hailed his glory.

It is believed that it is the moment Neymar decided he has had enough and made up his mind to escape Messi’s shadow.

Biafra referendum : IPOB, MASSOB will collaborate to achieve feat – MADU

Leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, Comrade Uchenna Madu has disclosed that all the groups agitating for the peaceful restoration of Biafra would work together to actualize the goal through a United Nations-supervised referendum.
Madu who made this disclosure against the background of the successful sit-at-home protest initiated by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He commended the collaboration between IPOB and MASSOB in the execution of the exercise and noted that with such spirit the Biafra dream would be actualized sooner than expected. He explained that MASSOB would work towards the referendum as the next line of action, noting that the proposed exercise would give the people the opportunity to express their willingness to leave Nigeria and decide their future.
His words: “MASSOB will continue to press for Biafra actualization and restoration as that is our only agenda and mission. Now that the sit-at-home exercise has come and gone, the impact and fears it created will continue to flourish. It has become a major part of Biafran history. Though it was not the first sit-at-home exercise ever held by the group, but it turned out as the greatest. “The sit-at-home exercise was declared and observed as a litmus test of the popularity and public acceptance of IPOB and MASSOB, it was also observed as a prelude to the coming Biafra referendum.
“The total compliance shows that the people of Biafra are fed up with Nigeria and her system; we can no longer continue to associate our existence with the failed and unproductive state of Nigeria. As we savour the victory and success achieved on the recent sit-at-home exercise, we shall never rest on our oars as the major work to be done for speedy actualization and restoration of Biafra is ahead of us.”
On how MASSOB intends to pursue the issue of the referendum and how it would collaborate with others, Madu said: “The referendum to determine the willingness, decision and resolve of the people of Biafra to leave Nigeria is the next stage of the struggle. The referendum will determine and resolve the Biafra question, it will give room for the people to willingly decide their future and existence in Biafra or Nigeria, it will also enable the international communities to ascertain the willingness of the people of Biafra to be separated from Nigeria.
“The clamour and demands for the referendum can never be done by one Biafra agitation group, it is a general task of all the people of Biafra. MASSOB salutes the Lower Niger Congress, the foremost referendum agitator for the people of lower Niger (Biafra). We also salute the IPOB for their stunt support and clamour for the Biafra referendum. “As the issue of the Biafra referendum takes the front burner position and also the need of the hour, we shall continue to discuss and strategize on the possible and globally accepted means of achieving it without any blemish. The leadership of genuine Biafra self-determination groups will soon meet for the next task ahead.
“The coming Biafra referendum can be likened to a football team. The 11 players that make up the team must work together without rancour for them to achieve success. Though no player is more important but there must be a man of the match, with the collaboration and coordination of eleven players, one player must score the needed goal(s) that will bring the desired victory that the team, supporters and fans and the entire nation will celebrate.
“The people of Biafra must be carried along irrespective of their positions, even the traditional, religious, political, academics and civil society organisations have their roles to play; the labour movement and trade union groups are all involved.”

PoliticsTrouble Looms As House Rejects South/east Developmental Bill by STANPASQUAL(op): 3:18pm On Jun 02, 2017
Trouble Looms As House Rejects Soutj/East Developmental Bill

The House of Representatives was again thrown into a rowdy session on Thursday, forcing a hasty adjournment of proceedings.
The cause of the rowdiness was the rejection of a bill seeking to establish a South-East Development Commission.
The bill failed at the session, which was presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, after it had been debated.
A similar bill to establish the North-East Development Commission had since been passed by the National Assembly, awaiting the assent of President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, South-East lawmakers immediately protested the decision on the grounds that the House could have, at least, allowed the bill to pass the second reading for more views to be collated from Nigerians at a public hearing.
Tension had built up in the House since Wednesday when the bill was billed to be moved for second reading.
However, it was stepped down on Wednesday because the lead sponsor and Deputy Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Chukwuka Onyeama, was unavailable in the chambers.
He returned soon after the bill was stood down.
The bill was re-listed for Thursday (yesterday), but again, Onyeama was unavailable just as the bill was to be taken and it had to be stood down a second time in line with the rules of proceedings.
But South-East lawmakers began a loud protest, insisting that the bill must be taken.
In the midst of the rowdiness, Onyeama reappeared in the chambers, just like he did on Wednesday after the bill had been stood down.
Dogara had to bend backwards to approve a motion for the rescission of the earlier ruling stepping down the bill.
The speaker said, “Let me clarify that it was not as if the bill was stopped. The sponsor of the bill was not around and we followed the rules to step it down.
“Now that he is here, we will take it. Nobody will shut out anybody because we don’t have the right to do that.”
Dogara calmed frayed nerves and opened debate on the bill.
Onyeama, while leading the debate, said the South-East geopolitical zone needed the commission to develop collapsed infrastructure and the damage suffered by the zone as a result of the Nigerian Civil War.
“The war led to massive destruction of critical infrastructure in the region, including roads, houses and environmental degradation,” he said.
Onyeama added that the region was worst-hit by erosion and other ecological problems.
The lawmaker stated that the commission would be funded from seven sources.
The first is through “15 per cent” of the total monthly statutory allocations due to member states of the commission from the Federation Account.
The second source, he explained, would be from “three per cent” of the total budget of any oil-producing company operating onshore and offshore in the South-East states, including gas processing companies.
The third source is from “three per cent” of the total annual budget of any solid mineral extracting or mining company operating in the South-East.
The fourth source will come through “50 per cent” of money due to member states of the commission from the Ecological Fund.
Five to seven of the funding sources are ”Such monies as may, from time to time, be granted or lent to or be deposited with the commission by the Federal Government or a state government, any other body or institution, whether local or foreign.
“All monies raised for the purpose of the commission by way of gifts, loans, grants-in-aid, testamentary disposition or otherwise.
“Proceeds from all other assets that may, from time to time, accrue to the commission.”
All South-East members, who spoke, including Mr. Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, Mr. Henry Nwawuba and Mr. Toby Okechukwu, said they gave “100 per cent” backing to the bill.
For instance, Nkem-Abonta argued that he believed the bill was the solution to the renewed agitation for the Republic of Biafra.
“We have to stop the crisis that is building up in the South-East before it turns into something else,” he said.
Members from the South-South, led by the Minority Leader, Mr. Leo Ogor, also supported the bill.
“Every zone deserves a commission because this country needs to be restructured. We cannot continue this way,” Ogor told the House.
Mr. Kehinde Agboola, who spoke for the South-West, said, “History will not forgive us if today we fail to support this bill.”
However, trouble started when all the lawmakers from the North spoke against the bill.
Members from North-West, North-East and North-Central, all opposed the bill.
For example, Mr. Mohammed Sani-Abdu opposed the bill on the grounds that it was a move to “divide Nigeria in piecemeal.”
He observed that coming soon after the government was trying to address the devastation caused by Boko Haram in the North-East, the timing of the bill was wrong.
Sani-Abdu recalled that after the civil war ended in 1970, government made concerted efforts to rebuild the South-East and re-integrate the people into the rest of Nigeria.
He argued that funding of the commission, using “three per cent” of the annual budget of oil companies operating in the South-East was indirect funding by the Federal Government.
Another member from the North, Mr. Karimi Sunday, said some South-East states were already benefiting from the funding of the Niger Delta Development Commission by the oil companies.
“Are we going to ask the same oil companies to fund the South-East Development Commission again?
“Are we saying that every zone should come up with its own development commission?” he asked.
When Dogara put the bill to a voice vote, he ruled in favour of those rejecting the commission. For clarity purpose, he called the votes twice before bringing down his gavel.
But South-East lawmakers began another round of protests as Dogara handed over proceedings to the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Yussuff Lasun, and left the chambers.
Lasun quickly adjourned the House as the rowdiness worsened.
Outside the chambers, South-East lawmakers continued the protest.
Onyeama threatened that he would resign his position as a leader of the House.
“I am a leader in this House; you can’t just kill my bill like that. I will resign,” he fumed.
Another member from Abia State, Mrs. Nkiruka Onyejeocha, said her colleagues were not happy that the bill was rejected.
“At least, they could have passed it for second reading.
“At the committee stage, more work could have been done on it to remove the grey areas,” she said.
One member from Rivers State, Boma Goodhead, joined in the protest, saying the North was not fair to the South-East.
“They are using our oil money to address the issue of Boko Haram. Now, they are against this bill. It is not fair,” she shouted and walked away angrily.
South-East, victim of orchestrated political, economic marginalisation
–Ohanaeze
In its reaction, the apex socio-political body of the Igbo, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said the South-East was the victim of an “orchestrated” political and economic marginalisation.
The Deputy Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mr. Chuks Ibegbu, who spoke with one of our correspondents on Thursday, said the rejection of the bill was “tragic, unfair and ‘unfortunate.”
Ibegbu said the bill, if passed into law, would have helped to address the longstanding marginalisation of the South-East.
He added that the development highlighted the flaws in the country’s federalism.
“The South-East is the victim of a well orchestrated political and economic marginalisation; these things do not happen by accident, they are planned and the plan is being carried out.
“The development highlights the tragedy of our federalism, a federalism that is filled with injustice, a federalism that emasculates the will of the people.
“At this stage in Nigeria’s history, nobody should be in doubt that the South-East needs federal attention.”
Ibegbu added, “The South-East has five states and 95 local governments but the North-East has seven states and about 200 local government councils. How fair is that?
“As we speak, the Federal Government has deployed national resources to attend to self-inflicted problems the North-East brought on itself through the Boko Haram insurgency. Before now an amnesty programme was initiated for the Niger Delta, and South-East youths, who were supposed to be captured in the programme, were not included.
“It is tragic that the House rejected the bill; it is unfortunate and very unfair on the people of the South-East.”
