Car TalkRe: Why A Nigerian Professor Would Not Be Able To Afford A Car by stanvesco(m): 8:12am On Jul 17, 2025
TheChameleon:
It is a sad situation but i will also play devil's advocate....

Why can't Nigerian Professors have inventions, patents and discoveries like their peers in developed countries?

Malaria, no cure. Electricity, no fix. Must we wait for Whites to fix all our problems?

Oh, Government doesn't fund them well..... But we have seen billions looted by Government, Institutions and Individuals through TETFUND.

What did they do with what they received? A Science Parastatal went to Senate and listed Kilishi processing as their major achievement.

The blunt reality is that, we Africans can not see running abroad as the ONLY solution to our problems.

Japan and Germany were practically annihilated after World War 2 and they stayed back to fix their countries over time.

Sad that South Africa looks VERY different from most parts of Black Africa simply because the Whites only left direct power in 1994 (3 decades ago)

Fixing Africa is a collective responsibility. Why are Blacks at the very bottom? Whites, Yellows, Browns all see us as inferior to even their pets.
Do you know that we don't even have enough rest of mind to think?
Do you have any idea how generator sound dampens the mind
Car TalkRe: Why A Nigerian Professor Would Not Be Able To Afford A Car by stanvesco(m): 8:11am On Jul 17, 2025
barika2011:
Buying a car is often a significant challenge for many Nigerian civil servants due to several factors. Firstly, their salaries are generally low compared to the rising cost of living and skyrocketing prices of vehicles, both new and fairly used. The recent devaluation of the naira and high inflation rates have further weakened purchasing power, making cars increasingly unaffordable. Secondly, civil servants frequently face delayed salary payments or deductions, disrupting financial planning and savings for major purchases like a car. Additionally, vehicle import duties and taxes in Nigeria are very high, adding substantial costs to car prices. Access to affordable credit facilities is limited, and interest rates on car loans are often prohibitive, discouraging civil servants from borrowing. Many civil servants also carry other financial responsibilities, such as supporting extended families, paying school fees, or handling medical expenses, leaving little disposable income for significant investments. Finally, poor public transportation infrastructure creates a high demand for personal vehicles, pushing prices further out of reach. Altogether, low earnings, economic instability, high vehicle costs, and financial burdens combine to make car ownership a difficult goal for Nigerian civil servants.

Sometimes going to school doesn't mean you are educated. You are afraid of HIV whereas it's written everywhere for you to see that HIV symptoms begins to show within 2-6 weeks. Soar throat, fever, etc. Are you showing signs of any of that? If not then what are you startled about? Don't make people think your education was a waste.
You can still make your point with much love!

Have you heard of False Negative?

I think medical practitioners do give false Negative, if your viral load is really low. That's also what PrEP does.
The virus might be there, but not significant enough to cause panic.
So instead of spreading fear, they manage it.

...and advice you to be more careful with your life.
Thanks for the advice and the tip. Actually,I am a medical doctor and a public health expert.

PrEP is pre exposure prophylaxis which is a combination of drugs that's used to protect a negative person from contracting HIV from a positive person. Its quite efficient when combined with condom!

Before we administer prep drugs,we test the person and ensure he or she is negative. We also check for signs of acute HIV infection, we also screen the client with a risk assessment tool to ensure the client haven't had a high risk sex very recently.

It's slightly different from PEP post exposure drugs that prevent HIV infection in a person who might have being acutely exposed to HIV

Omoh please give us the information. Even sex with condom is risky
Prep is a retroviral drug that is taken to prevent HIV. It's for negative people who are have a high risk of contracting HIV e.g multiple sexual partners, those who have partners who have multiple sex partners, those who patronize people who may have high sex partners. The PrEP drugs can sometimes be gotten for free from hospitals.

So I met this new girl and all our conversation she has been more emphatic about knowing my health status.
I told her I am okay that we always conduct periodic test in my office every year and that they don't give us the results.
So we had a near sex experience that didn't last for 1 minutes cos she was scared.
The following day she brought up the topic of my health status again and that since our near sex experience she has been restless.

Omoh at that point I even became scare myself. As a sexually active man that has gone into the legs of many ladies . Some with condoms and others without I was visibly scare . The last time I checked my status was in 2020.
The last time I had raw sex was October last year with my ex. Sex with condom was Feburary this year.
I became restless. Had to go out immediately to conduct a test even though it was Saturday.
I asked how long ye test will be ready and was told a minimum of 30 minutes . Omoh I was relieved cos if I was told to come on Monday I don't think I would have survived the anxiety.
Well I did the test and it came out Negative .
Also did Syphilis, Hepatitis.

I will submit sample for my urine culture test tomorrow morning. This one money fear me shaa. Just checking for any hidden infection.

I am so relieved and will be careful going forward
.you know if you think you have risky sex you should plan on taking prep HIV medication. It prevents you from contracting HIV!

Look at Cameroun, Biya has been there umpteen years, the man doesn't even live there, he stays in Belgium for a good chunk of the time.

To fight Tinubu in 2027 isn't worth it

If Tinubu loses in 2027,he would unleash the worst form of instability to the government!

Is it worth it ? Nope abeg! For example, imagine If coalition brings in Atiku and you expect Tinubu to fold his hands and allow the Atiku to have a peaceful regime? Tinubu boiz would join hands and destabilize the country na kiss

You have no idea that I am one of the biggest losers from this regime!
Tinubu came at a time that his dollar floating stabbed my Japa plans right in the heart!

I had applied for dollars just before all that dollar nonsense,so tell me how sad can one be!
I have never being in debt all my life but this regime hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have never thought that I would be broke in-between money before but I experienced it in this regime!

I am a very hardworking person and I work and double it with hustle but in this regime I stopped and CRIED!
I regretted staying back in naija
I regretted not delving into politics
I regretted being a moral person
I thought of a legal crime that I can do and then confess my sins
I thought of a fast way to make money for the first time in my life!

Yet,I look at all these and realized that we do not deserve another president so we can stabilize and heal

A new president would come with all dia shenanigans, wahala, styles and ideas and the attending trials and errors!

Can we survive another of such for 4years?

The more things would change, the more it would remain the same. I swear, whoever would become president in 2027 wouldn't outperform or underperform Tinubu

So why even do an election and waste money?

Dearest one,
Let me categorically state here that in 2023 I would have rejected 500 million naira cash in order to not vote TINUBU!

I grew up in Lagos and witnessed the harshness of Tinubu s reign!

However, right now my fear is *"how did we fare as a country after Jonathan was ousted?* Trust me, if Tinubu is removed my chance or by politicking! He would let hell loose upon Nigerians! Agree or not,in this country just keep 1billion naira and you would cause serious mayhem, havoc and big big wahala in Different locations.

So why run that risk? Make Tinubu just jejely do his second tenure and Waka go. We then face another election in 2031.

I disagree strongly and there's nothing like vendetta here.

Listen, I know a guy who is quite stable like you but now he isn't not because his business isn't rolling fine but because the multiple tax system encouraged by Tinubu led government and so many dependents who see him as a cash cow due to the fact that they can't find a good paying job despite their education and qualifications.

Picture this. TINUBU and his gang mostly his tribesmen like you recall that guy, Lai Muhammed? They lied that a Jonathan led government which was at the forefront of transforming Nigerian lives was deficient in all manners. They lied they could provide electricity, even reduce the price of petrol and pay stipends to jobless oh sorry unemployed youths even when Jonathan was doing all that sincerely while containing Boko Haram northwards.

These cannibals in power today misappropriated the future of so many young people who were gainfully employed during Jonathan's human government. Now that urban bandit in Aso rock did not remember Jonathan as a southern brother but made a deal that would redefine the destiny of millions of compatriots today.

You may own a limo or maybe a Ghost Wagon Mercedes, but there are so many young men who cannot feed themselves without tears in this nation. Parents are approaching retirement age and yet their children still depend on them.

I can tell you with so much confidence that Tinubu has absolutely nothing to offer Nigeria than grab power and destroy lives. With him in abuja, Nigeria will remain stagnant or go backwards. There are no reforms, no clear cut long term plan, no blueprint to tackle major challenges, just nothing.

Every nation needs a movement to rescue itself. This coalition is one that may bring back hope and make talented people like you seat down and build your nation for your children. Remember, you can't give what you don't have.
My dear,
Nice argument and I have no qualms with your position. However, apart from Peter Obi that would act in certain ways that would bring succor to the masses if elected! Can you please point out any other politicians among the current coalition team?
CrimeRe: My Cousin Was Just Raped And I Don't Know What To Do. by stanvesco(m): 3:00pm On Jul 08, 2025
Casham:
My cousin just told me last night that she just got raped on Sunday afternoon/evening (6th July, 2025).

I stay with them for now. She's 18, the first of two daughters and was still virgin (as far as I know). Her only [older] brother is in school.

She's been acting funny since on Sunday evening. She couldn't hold it in anymore and, since there is no one else she could actually confide in, she confided in me. Now she's begging me not to tell anyone and not to cause trouble. She only wants me to help her get a drug (if any) that will prevent pregnancy.

She told me about the man coming to see her in her mother's restaurant and said she was going to talk to the man about getting me a job, but when she went into his car, he forced himself on her.

Honestly I am angry right now! I am angry at three things:

First, I am angry at my family. I have a family where the children are afraid to open up, because if you do, you will be blamed and castigated upon. I understand her fear and apprehension about letting other people know, but I just can't let this go.

Secondly, I am angry at our society. How can a man confidently feels he can force himself on a lady and get away with it? What kind of society do we have?

Thirdly, I am angry at myself. I am angry because I feel helpless. I can't let this thing go. I have to deal with this man, but I don't know how to do it without putting my cousin in a difficult position. I have tried to let her know that it is not her fault and that the man needs to pay for this, but she's been begging me to just let it go. She only confided in me because she's really scared of getting pregnant.

According to her though, there was never any real penetration, but the man (who is a high ranking government official) actually "released" ON her, not IN her. (Does that even make sense?)
How can I handle this issue right now? For me, I am planning to go all out and let hell break loose and let the heavens fall if they have to.
Do you want to speak to a professional?
Anyways before you do can you quickly get some medications before time elapses?

Post exposure drugs for HIV
Postinor for emergency contraception
Broad spectrum antibiotics for STI

Then you can start discussing the intricate details of the case please

My thoughts on this thread (a lived experience)

https://www.nairaland.com/8468662/regret-leaving-nigeria-us-singer

My girlfriend's extended family members recently returned from Germany having decided not to proceed with relocation plans. They'd spent 6 months actually living in east Germany, not merely being tourists, navigating bureaucracy, building relationships, and trying to set up an international subsidiary of the family-owned business.

After 6 months and very little progress, they decided relocating to Germany wasn't right on any count.

When I left Nigeria, I promptly sold my most valuable possessions like most people and, sadly, burned a lot of bridges. Coming back was never an option if I had nothing to come back to. Here, here, this is where Nigerians' all-or-nothing approach to Japa begins.

Our passport affords us very little travel mobility. If you successfully leave, you know you aren't testing the waters. If life in your host country is kind to you, fine. If life there is hell, fine. Very few Nigerians have the financial muscle to Japa like my girlfriend's extended family. And even fewer will accept that giving up and going back home (to Tinubu) is even a rational option.

What's the motto again? "Japa - we die there"
Don jazzy did that too. He japad! And realized mehnn I am fading away and then he japadad!

Olatundeawo:
Following the passing of former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai, who died at the age of 61, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his deepest sympathies.

The President lamented the passing of the cherished goalie, affectionately known as "Dodomayana" by supporters throughout Nigeria, in an official statement issued on Thursday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Tinubu stated that Rufai was a patriotic athlete who deserved his place in Nigerian sports history and extended his condolences to his family, friends, and the broader football community.

"I can still clearly recall the pivotal role Peter Rufai played as the Super Eagles' first-choice goalkeeper during Nigeria's successful 1994 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Tunisia," Tinubu remarked. "He played a significant role in Nigeria's 1994 FIFA World Cup debut in the United States and made a second appearance in France in 1998."

Rufai was one of the first Nigerian players to play football in Europe, having started his career with Stationery Stores of Lagos in 1980. He played professionally for clubs in Belgium, Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands, thereby boosting Nigeria's stature in international football and opening doors for future players.

That's too much brother.

Phase 1
Government should build solar and battery companies. Remember we have thousands of inmates that can facilitate this work! Free of charge!

Phase two
Government should compulsorily enforce solar on the homes of all federal and state civil.servants. offcourse they must pay back small small.

Phase three.
Government should cut off all rural areas from the grid. The current constituency allowances form senators should be primarily targeted for solar.

By this time we will be operating the solar production by revolving funds. We don't even fucking need much. Just produce these panels and lithium batteries locally and we are good to go

Don't be deceived because electricity generation is not child play.Generation of electricity requires numerous capital and human resources to make a nation especially a large one called Nigeria with over 200 million people to get steady electricity.

Reasons Nigeria Can Never Guarantee Steady Electricity Supply

As a Nigerian I use roughly 3000 watts of electricity daily, this comes from my 8 400 watts solar panels.Every Nigerian need atleast a minimum of 2000 to optimum of 3000 watts of electricity in his home to be able to carry out basic electrical demands in his day to day life.

How Many Watts Do Nigeria Actually Need To Generate

Nigerian Need atleast a generation capacity of 600,000,000,000(600 billion)watts of electricity for it to gurantee that it have met the electrical demands of the Nigerian population. If the Nigerian government follows this solar generation model(which is the cheapest and ecologically cleanest way),the Nigerian government also need to distribute and subsidize solar batteries and inverters so as to make the Nigerian be able to boast of 24 hr electricity daily

Cost Associated With Generating Electricity Of This Size

A 600bn watts generation would guarantee every 200 million Nigerian citizen have assess to at less 3,000 watts of electricity wether during peak times or not.if it cost the government 3000 dollars to generate 3mw(3000 watts) of solar power,it would require 3000*200,000,000 which is 600 billion dollars to guarantee electricity for every Nigerian.(Note this is just basic calculation and extra costs involved during this realization weren't added if I added it everything could run up to 1 trillion dollars).

Reality

Nigeria can't afford this, and to my readers please maintain your generator or solar panels with all zeal because its your only remedy to steady light until you die, don't believe propagandas a thousand of Peter obi, tinubu, Jonathan, sowore and all analysts combined can't make Nigeria get steady electricity supply accross every inch of Nigerian territory not even in a 100 years time.
Brother, you came very close to the truth but you missed it in the end. Now,one thing you failed to note is that Nigerians have more sun time than other European countries. So basically, whatever theory that's available on electricity generation we have it times two!!!

Secondly, we have everything in abundance to create our own panels and lithium battery's. That being said, whatever cost you are envisioning divide it by 3 (import, profit and middle mens gain)

Thirdly, you omitted the fact that when people are generating power, they would *"also supply the excess power*"

Fourthly, in such mini grid system you proposed homes can be subsidized to change to direct current appliances! DC bulbs,DC TV,DC fridge ,DC solar pumps etc and government would tightly regulate these areas to avoid price inflation due to high demand

Penultimately, the cost of electricity transmission can be halved. Chai you underestimate solar sha ohhhhh

Finally my brother , solar can put power into the hands of a lot of people. I doubt if our colonial masters really want electricity to be everywhere in Nigeria. I doubt our leaders want that too as putting electricity into everybody's hand would have the same effect as putting phones in people's hands! More people would access power and knowledge as we are currently seeing in the social media space
