A fire has gutted the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (because), in Ibadan, the state capital.

According to reports, the fire started from the studio area and has done a lot of damage to equipment.

An eyewitness said the state fire service had been invited and that efforts were ongoing to control the situation.

“It’s true. because is on fire. I cannot give you full details for now until we get the full information on how the fire started,” the source said.

The because is owned by the government of Oyo state and saddled with the function of educating, enlightening, entertain,ing and disseminating information to occupants of the state and beyond.

A National Youth Service Corps member in Oyo State, Ukanwa Ikechukwu, has been arrested and charged to court for allegedly defrauding a female police officer, ACP Modupe Okpaleke.

He was arraigned on Friday in an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court after being accused of swindling a police officer of N235,000.

Ikechukwu, a graduate of physiotherapy, was charged with false pretence and theft.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Olufemi Omilana, told the court that the suspect on Dec. 4, 2022, with intent to defraud allegedly obtained N235,000 from Modupe Okpaleke.

Omilana further explained that ACP Okpaleke while seeking medical solutions to her leg problem at the Police Cottage Hospital, Eleyele, Ibadan, was introduced to Ukenwa, who recommended that she buys a bicycle.

According to the police, Ikechukwu who was deployed to the Police Cottage Hospital, Eleyele, Ibadan for his NYSC programme, collected N235k from the female officer to render assistance but fraudulently converted the money to his own use.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.

Magistrate M. I. Giwa-Babalola admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till May 25, for hearing.

Nigerian pastor, Charles-Philip Okiemute has claimed that anyone who is in possession of N1 million in their bank account on the day of rapture will not be among the lucky people that will go to heaven.

Okiemute, while preaching to his congregation at The Ark Of God Endtime Ministry in Lagos, said earthly wealth is worthless in heaven.

In a trending video of him speaking, the preacher also expressed disappointment at an unnamed musician who splashed N900 million on a luxurious car.

According to him, the money was enough to end poverty in the musician’s village but he decided to lavish it on an automobile for himself.

Okiemute further queried whether the singer in question would drive the car to heaven when he leaves earth.

He said; “I dey social media, one musician buy car of N900 million; for one car! And customised his plate number. So, I asked myself, ‘This car, you go drive am enter heaven?’

A Nigerian couple who share birth coincidences have gotten married 10 years after transitioning from friends to lovers.

The lady known as Tiwalola said she and her man were born on the same day and year, and in the same city.

She said they attended the same school and became best of friends when they were both 13 years old.


Tiwa shared throwback photos of them in secondary school and a recent one from the engagement ceremony.

A recent graduate of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, Akoko in Ondo State, Temitayo, was stabbed to death over N1,000 naira debt.

Temitayo, who recently graduated from the Physics Electronics department, was stabbed with a pair of scissors, according to the Peoples Gazette on Thursday.

According to a source from the University’s Student Union who confirmed the incident, Temitayo intervened in a naira payment dispute between a “Egbon Adugbo” and a third party, promising to settle the bill for the latter.

Temidayo was able to reimburse the perpetrators for 3000 naira of the 4000 naira but was unable to pay the remaining 1,000 naira due to an argument.

He said, “As usual they acted as Egbon adugbo to collect money. So he said he can’t give them, which led into an argument as if they’d meant to deal with him … and they came from nowhere to stab him after a lot of arguments and they scattered the villa with bottles and spoiled our gate.”

A man who sells Cannabis (marijuana) staged a protest at a popular bank after he was denied access to the money in his account.

He visited the bank to withdraw money so that he could buy more weed and restock, but was informed that there is no cash available.

This angered him and he decided to rant in the banking hall while disclosing that he needed the cash for the smooth running of the weed business.

According to him, the bank had advised him to go digital by getting an ATM card so he could be withdrawing the money in little sums, so he deposited lall the cash he had only to have challenge withdrawing the money when he needed it.

A female banker was trying to pacify the man as he continued to lament and stressed that he would not leave until he gets his money.

The Premier First Lady of Kano State, Hajia Ladi Bako is died aged 93.

Her daughter, Zainab Bako, confirmed the death to newsmen on Wednesday. She disclosed that the nonagenarian died at Prime Specialist Hospital in Kano after a protracted illness.

It was learnt that her funeral rites would be held at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, Kano.

Her husband Retired CP Audu Bako (1924–1980) was a Nigerian police officer and the first Governor of Kano State during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon following the formation of the state from part of Northern Region.

Late Hajiya Ladi was born in Sabon Gari, Zaria in 1930 (93 years ago). The street of her birth was called Layin Magajiya in Zaria.

Young Ladi attended Missionary schools up to Standard 2. According to Hajiya Ladi, her parents who were from Mid-western Nigeria, came to Zaria and settled at Sabon Gari.

In 1949, Audu Bako met young Ladi at the entrance of their house. They became seriously in love to the extent that Emir Aminu approved their marriage.

That time she was 19 and the smart young Police Officer Audu Bako was 25.

Audu Bako’s father was from Argungu, Kebbi State, and had served in the police force for 36 years.

He was appointed as the District Head of Sabon Gari in Kaduna State, his mother Dije was from Mariri in now Dawakin Kudu LGA of Kano State.

Late Ladi Bako is known to have a passion for keeping wild animals at home.

According to her, some villagers found two lion cubs that flood swept into their farms. They brought them to her which she gladly accepted.

The lion cubs were a male and a female brought to her on a Friday, so she named them Danjuma, (Hausa name of male child born on Friday) and Jummai (for a female).

Jummai died but Danjuma grew and became very close to Hajiya Ladi, to the extent that it was allowed to sleep between Hajiya Ladi and the daughter, Zainab, when she was a baby.

Her late husband had no passion for keeping wild animals but to be at the farm always. So after an incidence with Danjuma the lion, late Audu Bako build and opened the present Kano Zoo, and Ladi donated Danjuma as the first wild animal in the Zoo. She loved wild animals so much.

A statement by Air Commodore Sani Zakari (rtd) said Late Hajiya Ladi Bako had 6 children; 3 sons and 3 daughters.

One of the sons died, so she is survived by 2 sons and 3 daughters among them Zainab Audu Bako a lady politician and technocrat.

The Ondo State Government under Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has said all taxable residents of the state are expected to contribute a sum of N1,000 annually for the purpose of funding the education sector.

The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Femi Agagu, said this on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, while unveiling the Ondo State Education Endowment Fund (OSEEF) in Akure, the state capital.

He explained that the state government had set up a board comprising prominent natives of the state to judiciously administer and regulate the fund for the development of education at all levels in the state.

According to the education commissioner, the number of schools the state government is funding was enormous, hence the need for collective responsibility from all residents to assist the government.

Agagu, who pointed out that the government was targeting over N1 billion annually, explained that the fund, when realised, would be expended on provisions of facilities for schools and renovation of dilapidated school structures and provisions of bursaries and scholarships, among others.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu had relaunched the state education endowment fund on Wednesday, 21st November 2018 to expand the funding base of the existing Ondo State Education Endowment Fund.

But according to Agagu, the purpose and rationale behind the fund was to provide a pool of financial resources independent of normal government subventions, to renovate, rejuvenate, and generally upgrade the education system in Ondo State.

His words: “Accordingly, the fundamental conception is that the fund will have perpetual existence and that all and sundry within Ondo state and beyond will be encouraged and indeed urged to contribute to it according to their abilities and at all times as they feel able to do so.

“Contributions could be once and for all lump sums, or periodic remittances of the standing order type. International and national organizations, as well as individuals within and outside Nigeria are welcome and strongly encouraged to contribute to the fund. Therefore, every taxable adult, person, individual from age 18 and above in the state is mandated to pay a sum of N1,000 on an annual basis (yearly) for education endowment levy,” he said.

While the Board Chairman, Ondo State Education Endowment Fund, Akinsola Akinfenwa, said funding the education sector must be a collective responsibility, the Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa, said the fund is meant to support what the government is doing.

Also, Tolu Adegbie, the Chairman, Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), said it was for every taxable adult, adding that about one million people are expected to pay the N1,000.

Adegbie said: “What we are trying to do is to supplement government efforts towards supporting the education sector in Ondo State and we expect everyone to contribute to this fund.”

Shatta Wale, a well-known musician from Ghana, has publicly asked with Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the incoming president of Nigeria, to adopt him.

The abductors of six ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kogi State have demanded N50 million before they would release their kidnap victims.

The victims were kidnapped while returning from Kupa North and South under Lokoja Local Government Area in Kogi State before they were attacked by armed hoodlums.

An Assistant Presiding Officer II, (APO II) in the March 18th Kogi House of Assembly election identified as Babalola Oluwatobi Peter said his sister was part of those who are still held in captivity.

He mentioned those still in the hands of the kidnappers as Muhammed Maimunat, and Abdulrahman Raji, who are two serving Corps members. INEC ad-hoc staff, who are still in captivity according to Peter, are Oyaniran Atinuke Ruth, Florence Shayo Ajayi, Opara Tina and Blessing.

Explaining how the ugly incident occurred on that day to ThisDay, Peter said: “We were coming from Kupa North and South for the Kogi State House of Assembly election.

“I worked in the North, so we left North some minutes past six and we got to the South at 8:03 pm in which we were asked to move to Lokoja by our SPOs. I told them personally that we are not going, that they should allow us to sleep, and that by 4 am the next day, we should pick up and go just like the way we did during the presidential election,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Kogi State management has appealed to corps members serving in the state not to take laws into their hands over the missing colleagues.

“The attention of NYSC Kogi State management has been drawn to a planned protest by some corps members in respect of two corps members held hostage by robbers on their way to Lokoja last week Sunday.

“We would like to caution you on this planned protest because it is against the rules and regulations guiding you as corps members.”

You are therefore advised not to take the laws into your hands.


“Whatever your grievances, you must follow the channel of communication, take such to the state coordinator through your local government inspectors.”

The NYSC Director General, Brig. Gen. YD Ahmed and his top management team have been on the ground ( Lokoja) since Sunday when the incident happened, working with all security agencies to secure their release. The state Governor and the Chairman, of the NYSC Kogi State Governing Board, are also working hard for their release, the Statement said.

President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has asked Nigerians to use the occasion of his 71st birthday for “special prayers and thanksgiving” to be held on Wednesday, March 29, instead of the yearly birthday colloquium.

The special prayers will be held in Lagos and in other parts of the country.

A statement from his office on Monday indicated that for the main event in Lagos special prayers will be offered at the Central Mosque in each of the five divisions in the state including the Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja


During the prayer sessions, special prayers will be offered for the peace, unity, and progress of Nigeria.

Also to receive prayers among others are President Muhammadu Buhari and First Lady Aisha Buhari, President-elect Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Vice President-elect Senator Kashim Shettima and Hajia Nana Shettima, Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu, other state governors as well as members of National and State Houses of Assembly.


According to an announcement by the organisers of the prayer sessions issued by Imam Akeem Kosoko, the session at Alausa Central Mosque will begin at 10am on Wednesday and will include delivery of sermons and reading from the Holy Quran.

This year will be the third in recent times the birthday colloquium will not hold in deference to developments in the country.

In 2020, the 12th edition of the colloquium marking Asíwájú’s 68th birthday was put off to empathize with those who lost their lives or affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

And last year, the birthday symposium was also called off by Asíwájú Tinubu right at the venue of the event when news emerged of the terror attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train in which several persons died and many others abducted.

A man has reportedly been arrested by security personnel hired by a loan shark, Palmpay that he allegedly borrowed money from.

He was said to have refused to repay the money and has been evading the loan firm anytime they try to get their funds back.

The client, however ran out of luck as the company tracked him down and got him arrested just as he was trying to make an escape.

A video which surfaced online showed when the accused was inside a car and being accosted by armed security agents said to be attached to the company’s loan retrieval unit.

A Nigerian man visited an international airport with the intention of traveling abroad despite not having an international passport.

He declared that he has faith that Jesus Christ would help him to travel to his country of choice despite not having the necessary documents.

In a video posted on social media, the man who is a member of Jehovah’s Witness said he tore his passport because he was confident that God will help him to get the United States of America.

He was being interrogated by an airport official who saw him trying to enter the boarding area through the exit gate.


The religious man, however, said that he intends to stopover at Canada first because he is meant to visit some of his brothers and from there he would move to USA or his brothers will meet him in Canada.

A TikTok user recently shared a distressing incident involving her brother who was subjected to an unexpected haircut by robbers who broke into their home.

The post featured a photo of the man with half of his hair shaved off, an apparent result of the robbers’ actions.

According to the sister’s account, the burglars were unable to find anything of value to steal, leading them to resort to this cruel act.

Two members of the National Youth Service corps who are diametrical to each other have fallen in love after meeting each other during the mandatory one year programme.

The lady known as Innocent Ruth, is known as the tallest corper or water bottle, while the man is addressed as ‘tallest corper’.

She shared their beautiful story on Facebook and revealed that they met at the NYSC orientation camp.

Ruth who congratulated she and her boyfriend, shared photos of them all loved-up and cherishing what they share.


According to her, they first started as friends, but the relationship has grown into something more.
