Just as a reminder, it is just 14 days to this Diet CIS exams.

There are lots of activities that could act as distraction whenever
you are revising for the fourth coming CIS exams,
funny enough some of these distractions might be unavoidable.
But, you can actually minimize distraction.

Most of the time, notifications from electronic devices
(phone, tablet, laptops, desktop and others) only add to the distraction.
In fact, most of us are so used to getting interrupted while studying,
even when there is no notification on our phone, we still check just to be sure.
Seems we have been configured to be distracted…… smile!!!
There are other forms of distractions at work and at home….. we will discuss them all.

These tips may help you to minimize distraction, increase your
focus and assimilation while revising.

1. TURN OFF THE DISTRACTIONS
You may want to turn off all notifications from smartphones and
desktops applications. Consider checking email only four times per day and
handling each inquiry only once.
Controlling your devices and not having that technology control you,
may help reduce distractions and increase your focus and level of assimilation.
You have spent a lot for this exam, so don’t allow anything to deprive you of SUCCESS this diet.

Cramming for exams like ATS exams won’t help you learn deeply.
You will have forgotten most of what you crammed within a week.
Research shows we overestimate our ability to remember information and
underestimate the importance of actively studying.
We underestimate our need to learn and relearn information to be
able to recall it when we need it.

As an article put it, cramming is like jam-packing your brain,
Hurriedly jam-packing your brain is similar to speed-packing a cheap suitcase,
it holds its new load for a while, then most everything falls out.
If you’re feeling anxious, it might be better to put the books down and
not attempt to cram. Cramming can clog working memory and that can
result in ‘brain overload’, making you feel overwhelmed.
Information is more likely to be retained by your brain if you put it in
there slowly over time.

Cramming is not the best to pass ATS exam, though it’s often hard to break this bad habit.
Take some time to think about what it is that you find unpleasant about studying.
Think about what you could do to motivate you to study.
Finally, adopt effective learning strategies.
Create explanations for what you learn, rather than just passively absorbing them.

In today’s business environment, computers are continuing the revolution started in the 1950s.

It has become impossible for today’s enterprises of any size and in any market sector to exist without computers to assist with their fundamental business operations.

IT has transformed many professions and the accounting profession especially in an organization is not an exception.

This is because auditing work is done using paper work but in recent years, IT has changed the way audit is performed in many organization.

There are two reasons why IT auditors should use General Audit Software (GAS) products, such as Audit Command Language (ACL).

Firstly, there is the focus on fraud in recent years, according to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and its 2009 "Report to the Nation" survey on fraud, more than 60 percent of all frauds are detected either by a tip or by accident. While internal audit has moved up on the list, there is clearly room for more proactive antifraud programs.

Secondly, is that the demands on IT and internal auditors are increasing and auditors will need to become more efficient to fulfill all of the responsibilities and tasks assigned to them, and having the knowledge on Audit Command Language is one way to do so.

This helps you to reduce the time you use to audit and also enable you to conduct your activities in a most efficient manner.

Using ACL empowers you as an auditor to possibly have a better sense of direction in your audit procedures.

You will be able to perform some audit procedures to gain an understanding of the data (e.g., using PROFILE, STATISTICS commands in ACL). During these procedures,
You will be able to spot an anomaly or red flag
(e.g., negative amounts where there should be none).

The data in ACL are locked down as read-only.

There is no chance for the auditor to inadvertently change the data.

This inadvertent risk is much higher for IT auditors who choose to use a spreadsheet for analyzing and presenting transactions. While one can lock cells or sheets in Microsoft Excel, there is still the possibility of human error. It is almost non-existent in ACL.

In this age of technological advancement,

there is a limit to how an auditor can effectively

audit IT personnels without CISA.

So if all companies want to go the technology way because

it increases productivity and profit,

then all auditor should be able to audit the technological way too.

So for me, I wanted to be able to:

 Evaluate risk management practices

 Evaluate the value of the IT control framework

 Evaluate IT policies, standards, processes and procedures within the organization.

 Manage and monitor IT personnel.

In order words, I not only wanted to be an auditor but I wanted to be an IT auditor.

After I became a member of ISACA,

there was an opening at the organization where I worked,

the chief auditor resigned.

So the directors decided to do an in-house recruitment instead of outsourcing since

they knew some of us where chartered.

At the interview, I presented to the board how

I was going to establish audit controls within the organization

I also pointed out to them some leakages and

the sources of those leakages,

I presented some technology controls which

I suggested were to be adopted in the IT department of our organization

in order to curtail some of the excesses.

By the time I finished the presentation,

they told me right there that I had the job even though

they interviewed the others.

That was how I became the Chief auditor of my company

which more than tripled my income.
