KingOvoramwen1: Ignore that guy, he is and ewedu eating Yoruba boy, I have demolished him on numerous threads before now..... You see how he is shamelessly trying to claim Edo heritage ..... This Yoruba's are really really uncultured Yes I am yoruba. I never said I was not. I only claimed the heritage is Benin because that is the truth. Yes I love ewedu |

historyworld030: You need to understand the word "History". You guys often confuse it with the word "story". What exactky do you mean by " the europeans arrive" ? For your info, history is based on evidence, written documents (written hundreds of years ago, that is the kicker), not your usual story story. Hahaha very ironic that this is coming from an Edo man. Your history was written by the last oba who even schooled in ibadan |

historyworld030: So your answer to my question is an other question ? Can't you just answer a simple question ? I am asking because it seems you didn't see the irony when you claimed that the Benin Kingdom didn't extend as far as ...wait for it..."Benin Republic". You can say such a thing and not feel dumb ? SMH Ok since you can answer my question then it is clear you are really confuse and cannot understand the irony of your question. The people with you people is that you believe your bullshit too much and has removed all logical thinking . First of all Benin kingdom not an empire did not conquer any thing to the west. What we had in a Lagos then were villages of "primitive" settlements. The ijebus back then did not even consider us as a treat to their thread ( well that is another topic) the Benins were going to Benin republic for trade but arrived in present day Lagos island and were loved by the people (on second visitation) not that you had any influence in benin republic. Back then present day Lagos, badagry to port novo ajasan etc where all considered together as slave coast based on the heavy slave trade going on in that axis and given the fact that the monarchy was of Benin heritage (Which I am part of) they called it bright if Benin and hence the name Benin republic. Benin had no influence, name , culture and monarchy beyond Lagos island. I don't want to go to deep history with you of anago etc |

historyworld030: Go and tell that to the british museum and the european libraries who host historical documents which actually prove each step of Benin History. I posted pre-colonial maps on this thread earlier. I know you guys would like the Benin Kingdom to not have had the glorious past it had, but Benin did have its glorious past either you like it or not. I hope you realise that there was history before the Europeans arrived ? I also read when you typed about any war the "yorubas" fought with the British. I will not go far, just read about Oba Kosoko. I also want to mention he was of Benin heritage |

historyworld030: first of all the guy whom you are quoting is ijaw, not Edo. Also you are quite strange in the sense that you claim to be of "Benin heritage" and yet you insult the Edos, all on the same page.
Just one question: where did benin republic get its name from ? Before I answer your question, where did cote d'Ivoire or ivory coast, gold coast or ghana, slave coast or nigeria get there name from Please point to me 2-3 evidence of Benin presence and influence in benin republic |

liohan: The problem with Nigerians especially the educated ones is that history seems to be a non-existent event. First, that folklore is a made up one. No Benin man believes that shit. Benin likely migrated from the Noks, many of their art and metal works show that. Then the other issue here, which is whether Ijaw residence have the right to constitute a ruler over their domain. Legitimately, there is nothing wrong with that. Gele-Gele might not be Benin land. Because at the height of its power Benin Kingdom extend to present day Togo. Gele-Gele, The region around Edo, Delta and Kogi States were vassal states to Benin with many of them claiming origin from Benin. Whether the Ijaws in Gele-Gele migrated to the region or they are aborigines. Living there for centuries have made them owners of the land. Note that it is this same issue that is the bone of contention between Israel and Palestine, the former argues that they lived in the land before the Arabs and the Turks expelled them from the land. Besides, where would people who have lived in an area for centuries mass-evacuate to? Is it that they should not have a leader over themselves because of a traditional folk tale that is centuries old? Bleep that! Benin should also tell Lagos not to have an Oba because Lagos was once a colony. After all this we should know that except Benin becomes a country, all lands belongs to Nigeria. Lands that have no direct ownership except on the mouths of folk tale tellers, should not be an avenue for a bigger group to lord over a smaller one. benin extended to Togo many are mad but few are roaming the street. TOGO !!!! ARE YOU BENIN PEOPLE SMOKING ? |

nobaga: While I share Ajayi-Bebe feelings about the intentional exclusion of Lagosians from the scheme put together by Tinubu from Oragbiji in Osun State, Ajayi affiliation conceding Lagos Island to Benin is misplaced.
Bini itself is Yoruba regardless of the politics of the day. The ligua franca in Bini palace until recently was Yoruba, their gods are Yoruba and the names of the royals until recently are Yoruba.
Oduduwa came before Christ and existed not only in Yoruba history buy in that of their cousins worldwide including Ijaw before Ikalehan appearance in the 14th century.
Ajayi-Bembe cannot reconcile that by claiming Bini and Awori are the same. That is pure self serving. He can get away with that by claiming all Yoruba are cousins.
Aromire own Isale Eko a descendant of Ogunfimonire, an Awori from Ife own Lagos from Isheri to Isale Eko. https://www.nairaland.com/4018415/ogiso-bini-ijaw-came-ile-ife#59914051 That is it.
