Speaker051: Good day,
It's no longer news in this country that the patient dog no longer gets even water to drink.
For how long will PTDF keep us aloof?
About a week ago, a friend sent me a message on WhatsApp to ask if I have received money from Ptdf. I said,"NO"! He told me that Ptdf had starting paying Lss awardees. I wanted to believe that this was a fallacy and upon asking more questions, I discovered the money was for last year Lss awardees. https://www.nairaland.com/3656214/7-months-after-induction-yet..
If it took Ptdf one whole year to pay Lss awardees, who knows how many ours will be?
My submission is that it is time for us to get more proactive. We need to use all the available means to strategically make our voices heard.
Let's us set aside SPECIFIC Day's for posting about our grievances on Ptdf twitter handles, sending them mails, send DM messages to people that matter in this society who can assist us, Ptdf Facebook handles..& if it's possible to get it on the screen media, why not..
If you're good in writing articles, you can write an article concerning this subject with a title such as, "Ptdf says its a crime to study in Nigeria".. That's just a suggestion. Let the writers write and I'm sure everyone will make this stuff go viral and Ptdf management will do the needful.
Let's get proactive. If we don't speak, they'll think we are comfortable. Speak before they use your money for 2019 elections. I agree. The people I know are low ranks. The ogas are the ones delaying |

engrpaulsnow: Tnx for d update... But i know of a number of lss msc applicants who are even done with course work. Remember d application last year specifically stated that lss applicants must possess valid admission letter at time of application. Most lss candidates i know already had admission since last year. So you can understand their concerns. Regardless of any available information, I believe successful candidates will be contacted b4 d nx round of application. And since the nx round of application would naturally be mid-November that leaves ptdf with a maximum of three weeks from today to : 1. Contact successful candidates 2. Conduct separate inductions for lss (msc&phd) and split site (phd). So if you ask me, it leaves them with a week or two to address item 1. I am for phd split site and would appreciate any updates on this category. Thumbs up to all who have kept this forum alive. You are absolutely right engr. I only asked for the MSc of which the list is ready. I will find out for the PhD. |

danduchi: how does sharing info here fasten or make ptdf conduct induction for LSS?... no one created a WhatsApp group for selfish interest and perhaps the link was made public here, it was created to ease communication esp for those who maybe to busy to enter nland, easy to read a pop message on WhatsApp.... what info do you need here or u just want to rob it on faces of those who were not awarded? danduchi: what's being selfish in creating a WhatsApp group made public here, what info do u need aside date for induction not as if the date will help aspiring participants.... if you want to rant, do that to the OSS as well and stop putting your frustration on LSS for creating a WhatsApp group. The link is still open for u to join. #BeHumble Lol it does not matter. OSS got their names out before forming a group. BTW there is nothing humble about secluding yourself from the rest of the community you benefited from. Anyway do as you like it does not matter. |

Even Akiolu cannot say he is not yoruba. What does he speak ? Is he more bini than an oyekan, dosumu or Kosoko . Even I have more claim than akinolu. This rubbish is as a result of Tinubu's misdirection and greed. |

Must u force ur language on others? I think it is improper and wrong.
Over 50% of Lagos population are not Yorubas.
It is cosmopolitan with a growing population of international residence from other continent doing business and living in Nigeria commercial capital city. Lol if you don't like it then revote na. We make noise on nairaland |

I think this matter has been put to rest. As an said I man from Lagos island royal household I think I can state some facts from my pov.
1. The old and even present day Lagos island WAS NEVER OWNED BY BINIS.
2. The monarchy is firmed by a bini Prince and this does not make us under binu in any way
3. Bini itself came from Ile ife.
4. Before binis migrated we have the awori people and every bini linkage is now awori as I am from one of the lineage.
5. We are yorubas in every sense and we consider binis as yorubas
6. Akinolu was never meant to be oba but Tinubu forced him on us. It was the family of Adebiyi that was to be king after oyekan 7. Unlike the binis we know our history and that is why homage is paid to the oba bini till this day. Bini is meabt to be doing thr same to the ooni |

Areafada2 please explain how ga people are of Benin origin. Also explain how Benin ever crossed Lagos to Benin republic to togo to present day Ghana without any form of war or conquest. No cultural influence in those country but has influence in Ghana. Also how come they don't even know Edo not to talk of benin but somehow benin has they has one of their conquered region |

AreaFada2: Thank you.
Sure, no ethnic entity is entirely homogeneous. People have to migrate from somewhere and try to form a new identity wherever they find themselves. Now think of it. A land that is already populated by one group of people will only ever allow a smaller group that can be assimilated to join them. Unless they are conquered. Or the larger group is not seen as a threat. Rare historically. The waves of migrants who formed Urhobo culture were those of Benin area people. With minor other immigrants from elsewhere. Take the case of Itsekiri.
When Prince Ginuwa left Benin during the reign of his father Oba Olua of Benin (1475-1480), he left with a replica of the royal court of Benin. With junior sons of Benin Chiefs as his courtiers. They are still the core of Warri royal family & aristocracy till now. Waves of Ijebu & Eastern Yoruba later moved to the area and supplanted much of Benin language there. There were lots of wars within Yoruba land and with their neighbours too. So migration waves are easy to understand. By now Benin had become more organised beginning in 1440 with Oba Ewuare I. With able bodied men needed for wars of expansion.
So unlike Urhobo who could migrate more easily in the pre-imperial times, just leaving had become more difficult. With body tattoos (Iwu), facial tribal marks now used to identify Benin/Edo people. This could explain why waves of migrants from Benin could not join Ginuwa. So trickling waves of Yoruba origin people became the main population.
In discussions with Ga people of Osu/Accra area of Ghana about their Benin origin, surprisingly most were aware of it. Even Ga people in the West/diaspora over 20 years back. But about 25% said they only migrated through Benin on their way from Sudan, Egypt or wherever.
In the same way, Benin itself has a lot of migrants who are now bona fide Benin people. From everywhere: Yorubaland, Ijaw, Igalla, Igbo, etc. It is only homogeneous in shared/dominant culture, not necessarily in ethnic origin or genetics. pretty much same with most tribes and nations.
The current Iyase of Benin, who is the traditional prime minster and second in power the the Oba is an Urhobo origin man. Since considering history, an Urhobo man is not to be even considered a stranger in Benin.
I find it really interesting to hear in Urhobo language, words that very old (like over 85 years old, all now late) Benin people used around 30 years ago. Words that are not heard frequently in Benin language now. Urhobo & other Edoid languages could become major linguistic repositories of the ancient common language. Can we know where you got this information ? Because my very good friend is from Accra and a royal household. Why are you Benin people like this ? |
