faakay: You will loose her becos out of sight is out of mind, because it will take you atleast 2- 3 yrs the fastest way to get green card if u re lucky getting married to someone with legitimate or illegitimate intention. Before getting a good job and settling down gaining ur full ground approx 2 years. Total of 5 yrs

She is a woman, even thou she loves u, do u think she will wait for u dat long? Seriously get gonna get banggggedddd looool, and def going to be getting man askin her for marriage, so she might ve no option than to accept the offer cos she don't know when u re going to be back.

With my own experience in abroad, its not easy as the way we think before living, apart good standard of environment and well organized. But to be honest with you life is much better there than here if u ve d rit resources. It's not easy going to abroad to hussle especially on a visit visa lol, this suffer go too much. U might be frustrated to do drugs and other illegal jobs cos no company will offer you a job because u have got no work permit. Any work u get will be peanut and its going to be like u are burning in Hell inside Heaven lool.

The best way to migrate abroad is through a student visa, ur chances are still far better than a visit visa.
Its look like green but aint green.

I understand your view of point, opportunity comes but once because if you tell people you got a visit US visa and u didn't go, they will call u a big fool and u might not ve that opportunity again in life which u might regret.

Do you have a good income here in Nigeria? If yes u don't need to go and hussle, but if you are hussling here as in things are not easy. I will advise you to give it a shot but have it in mind, u re not going to marry her, just leave her out of this.

Go to US, try and mix up with some Nigerians. The only option for u is too get married, start toasting as much girls asap u get there lol, be genuine and as long as u re still single and u like her. She might also be of help to you in a lot of ways.

Don't listen to folks here saying trash that u won't make it becos others didn't make it, if u believe that u will succeed then move! A lot of ppl re even looking for US visa, genuine and ungenuine they deny them but u were lucky u got it.

Give it a try and believe u aint going to regret it. Your personality and the way you interact with people over there will go a long way for you.

I saw ur post in d oda thread but didn't contribute but when I saw again I'm like why this guy dey act like bolo...

Oga vamoose comot for NL and board plane to yankee. Stop asking too much of questions because u might get discourage along the line. Be a man bro@33. They said he who wants to lick the honey inside the rock won't look at his axe. Na lion mouth money dey. Peace!
I really appreciate ur effort in reading thru my story nd I thank u so much 4 ur useful contribution. I have made up my mind to travel since I got d visa, but am jst waiting to round up my youth service b4 I jet out. Concerning my babe, I bliv if there is a will, there sure would be a way. Going by my determination nd with d favor of God I strongly bliv things will work out fine nd we will achieve our goals. Once again I really appreciate every contributor here nd I pray our success will not elude us IJN! Peace.

Yvete: awww... Man, you really love your girlfriend. grin Seems like y'allz love keeps you from coming. I'm shocked you're still back over there after all these months. Every possible advice has been given to you already.

If you were my brother, knowing that you're hell bent on traveling, I'd ask you to visit the US and see for
yourself. If you're comfortable and things get better (by whatever means), work towards a students' visa for your girlfriend to join you. I suggest you discuss with whoever is willing to host you in the US. Let them know your plans.

In addition, if you'd like to change status to F1 - It's too late for the Fall. The earliest should be around November/December.

This is as real as it gets.
Thanks for your contributions, I really appreciate. Am still around because am serving and I will round up by Oct this year by God's grace.

Gbenge 77: Op,it does appear that you are confusing the validity of your visa with the duration of stay.I reckon you posess a 2 year Multiple entry visit visa. Thus, you can only be granted a six month stay by the CBP.It could be extended though. Its also illegal to work with a tourist visa. You might just be fiddling with a ban
Sorry about that its a B2 multiple entry 2yrs, not what I stated earlier.

bigfrancis21: My brother take all the advice given here seriously. The US is not a bed of roses if you're an illegal immigrant. You can't WORK legally if you have a tourist visa. Don't be tempted to go to the US only to go there and suffer. Its not worth it at all.

I'm a full supporter of people following their dreams and if you do really want to go to the US and live there legally, now take these legal paths of advice:

1) After you get to the US, start applying to a community college to study a related program to IT/computer science. I say community college because its much cheaper and takes less time (2yrs) to complete. You can apply to a university if you have the money. Community colleges award associate bachelor degrees and universities full bachelor degrees. Before you leave for the US, be sure to leave with your transcripts, academic credentials, and enough money to sustain your living expenses and your academic expenses. If you get admission you then apply to the appropriate US agency to permit you to study. Once it pulls through then you can begin your study. After study, hunt for a job and have your employer file on your behalf a work visa (H1B), and after you start working you can begin your green card application process. This may take you some years, at least 5 years, to achieve. Its not going to be too easy just as it is not easy anywhere but if you PERSEVERE you'll make it. Through this means you're well on your way to live the american dream.

2) You may as well find love there, get married and set your papers straight.

3) If the DV lottery doesn't finally get scrapped, you can play the lottery this year, by october.
My dear brother once again I want to say a big thank you. I am sure that option 1 will make a lot of senses so, am going to consider it and I promise to feed u back as it goes. Pls I will appreciate more advice from you because you seem to understand my plight. I will like to leave immediately after Passing out of NYSC in oct by the special grace of God.

You need to chill and think critically before hopping on a plane. If you know deep down in your heart that you're coming over here to 'hustle', be open about it and maybe you can get few heads up on what to do. You're not the first Nigerian to abscond anyways, no biggie!

It's obvious that you're not coming to school here (well, for now) so stay back over there and plan. Even if you're present in the US, schools will request proof of funding/sponsorship before releasing your I-20. Why are you in such a rush? Get skilled - barber, tailor, mechanic($$ grin ).. before coming over. Your girlfriend would have to wait at least 5+ years before bringing her over. undecided shocked

Thanks bros, pls do you know if its possible for me get admission to further my education with my HND since I have a B1/B2 multiple entry visa for 2 yrs. Pls I will heed any useful advice here.thanks

imperiouxx: You haven't left Nigeria, you've started thinking of marrying American for paper. Even thinking of going back to pick your Nigeria base Nigerian wife to be........looooooooooooooool, Ok ooo. You must have thought Americans have no brain and/or are remote controlled robots. Soon you will get here to see the true picture of situation. You'll soon know that the least visa type to get job here is visiting (either B1 or B whatever). Even F1 visa that's more respected must not work until after completion of school and it's just for short duration of time.
You misunderstood me right. I never thought of getting married to a citizen, all am planning is how I can find a living in the US and after sometime I will come and marry my sweetheart so that we can both come back to settle in the US. So if you have any idea of how I can go about that I will appreciate it.
TravelRe: How Long Does It Take To Get A Job In The US by Step84(op): 1:42pm On Aug 28, 2013
bigfrancis21: There are two likely scenarios for you:
1) Getting married here in Nigeria before leaving and after getting your green card, which is likely to come in at least 5 years, you file for your spouse to join you. Now, the question is, can you endure living apart for that long? huh

Note that your lover's joining you is not the problem. The main hurdle is obtaining the green card first very fast and once that is achieved, the rest of the work will not be difficult to achieve.

2) Not getting married and leaving the country with the hope of returning someday to do the marriage and bring your lover over. Okay, the possibility there is that while over there you are likely to fall in love with someone else (a citizen maybe) and, who knows, get married. This then means that you abandon your lover in Nigeria. Now, do you feel this is option is better for you? Another side to this is that your lover may not be willing to wait that long for you and may decide to settle down with someone else.

This is a serious life decision you have to make and I suggest you weigh your options very well before making one.
Thanks a whole lot for your contribution. I think I will consider the option 2 because while am there I think I would be able to communicate with her as often as possible? And as soon as things pull through I will not hesitate to come and pick her provided God has destined us. Pls don't get tired of giving me more advice cos this is a decision I have to make. Thanks

TravelRe: How Long Does It Take To Get A Job In The US by Step84(op): 1:07pm On Aug 28, 2013
lafflaff123: Okay poster there are jobs and again there are jobs, so it depends on what exactly you are looking for and the people you meet or visiting in the US and their links in getting you something, if really you don't plan on going back.

I will never advice anybody to be an illegal immigrant but since you have your mind made up, be ready to live or work like a slave until (1) you sort yourself out and in most cases it takes years (b) get deported back to Nigeria and can only see the US on TV for the rest of your life (C) Do jobs that you will be ashamed to tell your folks back home about.

Most Nigerian businesses in a mostly Nigerian dominated area usually employ people under the table, and pay them peanuts and when I say these guys will use you, I swear it is not funny.

Some years ago while still living in the Riverdale part of Maryland State, there is this popular Nigerian buka as a certified bachelor I use to stop over from work every evening to eat, and there was this very educated looking mature man always serving food, and the owner of the Buka a nice middle aged woman from the western extraction of Nigeria.

So one day while chilling after a heavy food, got talking to the man and was surprised he told me he is a trained pharmacist in Nigeria. Pharmacist I asked? he said yes. And that he has been in the US for 6 years on a visiting visa which ran out and tried as he did, still cannot get himself situated. Not seen his wife and kids for years and the shameful part is that he serves food in a place where the owner could be his daughter.

So I asked the most sensible question that came to my head, and that is why sir? why make a move that an uninformed or ill educated will make? he could not answer. So I asked him again what stops you from going back home? he said shame.

There was nothing I could do but linked him up with my then pastor who happens to be a lawyer before I moved from the State, and how it ended I still don't know.

The United States is not a good place to abuse your visa or be an illegal immigrant and I keep telling people this. You can go to Europe and get lost and nobody will care but in the US you need simple stuff like driving, opening accounts, accommodation and those little things of life that makes life easy.

I will not discourage you not to come to the United States, but come first, take a feasibility study of the situation on ground(real and unreal) and make your choice. But do know that you will face the harsh realities of life when you overstay your welcome with your host, and move into the cold hands of the reality of life called the United States without legal papers.
Hi bros quite some time! I really want to count on you peoples' advice here bros, I got a B1/B2 multiple entry for 2 years and I have been contemplating since then. Pls if I go what is my chances of making a headway, does it worth the investment? I will appreciate every information here. Thanks

If you go to the redeem church in the UK, there is no day they don't raise prayer on visa issues and the pastors know that they have members staying illegally yet they still cover for them. God does not support breaking the law.

Allohrandy: @ poster, Life is not easy for Greencard resident in America and it is worse for an illegal or overstay Immigrant in America.. things are really difficult in American and it will be almost impossible to get a good job without having the green-card unless you wanna be involve in illicit businesses like selling drugs or 419..The only jobs you can get is menial jobs and you wont be able to pay your bills, rent or save money with menial jobs .you cant even apply for a bank account or a drivers licenses without your paper .. Without having the right documents, The US of A is a really cold place to live in for a Nigerian because nobody is going to offer help you. I know of a Nigeria in LA that also came in with a visitor visa and the only job he could find is a waiter job in a Restaurant, he doesn't get paid by the owner of the restaurant and he only depend on tips from the customers.. So I think its better you stay in Nigeria and get your green card before coming down to the States.. its far better to live in Nigeria than to live in America as an illegal or overstay immigrant
"So I think its better you stay in Nigeria and get your green card before coming down to the States.."
Do you know what you are saying at all? If you don't have any useful contribution, I think nobody will blame you if you keep quiet instead of misinforming someone in need of advise.

omega25red: I have to say that this has been one of the best threads i have seen on NL. I wish this would be put on the front page because not only did people give good advice, they also gave different scenarios. There were no insults or belittling of the poster. This thready is a breath of fresh air smiley

poster the folks have given you all the info you need. It is really difficult for an illegal immigrant to live out here especially a Nigerian. Our people do not help each other because most of those willing to help have been burnt in one way or the other. Even church people might allow you to stay for a month at their home before they kick you out.

Getting married to a citizen is another head ache. Gone are the days when our people used to do that for a flat fee. Now the woman or man will constantly hit you up for cash because people know what the deal is and they will gladly tell you they wont go to the interviews if you don't give them money.

Going to a shelter is another head ache. I worked in the shelter system in NYC years ago and i know from experience that they will kick you out of the shelter after being there for a long time. The purpose of a shelter is to house you while they help you get back on your feet. To get on your feet you will need your papers. This way they can apply for benefits etc. With no papers they will say they can't help you and eventually you will be asked to leave or produce papers. I have seen that happen.

working off the books might be good for a short while until the business owner tells you he has no money this week for you which will make you mad, but you can't report it to anyone because you have no papers. There are business owners who intentionally hire illegals just because they know they can do such to them.

Getting a lawyer to "adjust your status" is another thing. Most lawyers probably all get a fee every time they talk to you about your case. So if you go to their office you will pay, if they file papers for you, you will pay if they go to court with you, you will surly pay (this one na personal experience grin ) you will need to even watch out for some lawyers who will tell you about all the different papers they can file on your behalf because they know they will charge you a fee, and with the fake hope they will keep stringing you along instead of being real with you.

there are is so much you have to deal with as an illegal immigrant in the U.S. I pray you open you ears and heart to listen to some of the stuff on this site. If you do decide to go for it i wish you the best.
Am so grateful for your advice God bless

Gbenge 77: Legitimacy is crucial bro.The State Department has an unwritten rule known as the 30/60 day rule.If you wanna legitimise your stay,be sure not to contravene it.What the rule means that if you intend to change your status from tourist to student ,or any other status, you musnt do so within 30/60 days ,because that would serve as an indictment. You dont want the DHS to suspect foul play. So,your best bet might be switching your status to a student,or make efforts to get married(after 30/60 days). That ,I reckon,is the best way to legalise your stay, helping you to stay legitimate.Ruminate on these.
Thanks for your useful contribution. Pls bros I will appreciate if you throw more light on this info

It is good to go after your dream but being prepared is very important. People have done what you are planning to do and they have succeeded yes but the reality is, the govt have closed or planning to close the different loop holes that you maybe thinking of exploiting. Anyway no one fails in Mr. experience's class everyone graduates grin
Its not what you think Bros. I appreciate everyone here and I pay serious attention to every advise here. Thanks bro and one love
TravelCan I Come Back And Marry Her? by Step84(op): 11:27am On Apr 23, 2013
My name is step84, am 33yrs
Thanks to everyone for taking the pains to read my story, I really need your advice on this; I have a girlfriend that we have been in a relationship for a very long time (10 yrs) and we planned to get married soon, God willing. Now I want to travel to the US which I know I will stay there based on some options highlighted to me. I want to ask, will it still be possible for us to get married, how can I go about achieving that and how soon would that be, if possible? Thank you in anticipation for your useful contributions.
TravelRe: HND In Computer Science: How Much Can I Earn A Month In The USA by Step84(op): 11:14am On Apr 23, 2013
Krucifax: In all honesty @ poster you will be lucky to get a McDonalds job. A HND is is not well regarded in most countries (Nigeria +USA). If you are I.T inclined then i suggest you start taking Microsoft or Cisco certifications to bolster your HND.You might be lucky to find a U.S college that will consider your credits from the HND and then allow you top up to a full degree. Without which your job applications will be used to practice basketball shots with the office bin!

I've helped you check for employers asking for HND in the whole of the US via http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=hnd&l=United+States

Of a total of 2,316,123 job vacancies in the whole of America only 109 will consider a HND and you bet it won't be a Nigerian one.

The best website on the planet for checking job and career prospects plus requirements is http://www.bls.gov/. From here you can do your research on every type of job in the U.S from things like entry requirement ,Salaries and future projections.
Thanks a great deal
