EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Steph1738aye: 12:40am On Jun 12, 2021
Hi guys. Please this is urgent.
I am about to register for the GRE exam at this lesson center in Surulere (this is where I’m doing my GRE lesson). It costs 65,000 here for the GRE exam registration but I’ve met 5 other lesson centers that charged me 88k, 96k, 120k, $205, $230 respectively for the same GRE exam registration.
Now I’m a bit confused. Do I go with the one in Surulere? Is that the correct fee? And why do the other lesson centers charge different fees? I asked 2 of them and they said that people charge what they can for the exam registration.

I totally understand that but think about this. Who gets affected if they choose to be lazy and not do their own research? They’re the only ones who will suffer from their ignorance. There’s just nothing wrong with including the university name after visa approval. Those posts inspire A LOT of people. The ones who refuse to do their own research and find the university that will fit them perfectly will suffer the consequences of that action.
mayDtolu:
There is nothing wrong in sharing the name of school someone applied to but It’s always good for aspirants to make research themselves and choose schools that suits their profile. We have got many people out there who doesn’t want to put in any effort and It’s not good enough...You made the point in your comment as well.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by Steph1738aye: 12:02am On Jun 12, 2021
Nope.
1- The Nigerian mentality here is hiding the name of your school like you don’t want to see another Nigerian in your class when you start your studies. It also doesn’t really concern you if they choose not to put in any effort or be lazy in their research because it would come back to haunt them later on. No 2 applications are the same
2- It’s not a valid question. Do you think there aren’t thousands of students from other countries applying to the same university? But when it comes to Nigeria, some Nigerians see it as a problem when they do not own the school.

3- There’s nothing to be confused about. The point of my post is this- “what is the big deal in sharing the name of the school you’re accepted into after you’ve gotten your visa approval? This platform exists to help one another. No need to xyz the name of your school because whether you like it on not, you’ll meet a Nigerian there.

Like I said before, another person’s light doesn’t dim yours and no one “demands” others to share the name of schools they were accepted into.
I hope I cleared the air up for you.
TWoods:
I would say its the other way round - Nigerian mentality is what drives people to sit here demanding others share the names of schools they were accepted into so they don't have to put in any effort.

It's a valid question...

I'm confused. Which is it? If people are free to tell others to do their own research then what is the point of your post?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Steph1738aye: 11:51pm On Jun 11, 2021
Hi Bright. Please DO NOT start your study permit application in December when your program starts in January because from what I’ve studied on Nairaland, it takes 4-12 weeks (sometimes more) to get a decision on the visa application. Also, you can make the payment for your tuition to reserve your spot and I don’t think you’re required to apply for your study permit immediately. Just don’t apply too late. I hope this helps
Oviebright:
Good evening everyone please I’d appreciate a response. I got letter of acceptance from Algonquin college this month and the I’m to pay my fees before July 23 to get tuition fees receipt and letter of admission . So I can apply for study visa. The problem now is that normally I need to provide proof of funds of 6 months from my sponsor I was wondering whether I can apply for visa December because the program starts Jan 22. So we can build up my sponsor statement of account from June to December. Because when applying you have to provide statement of account backwards 6 months from the date of application. Or whether I’m supposed to apply immediately after I get my letter of admission from the school. @frank and everybody

What is so wrong with sharing the name of school you’re accepted into after getting your visa approved? I don’t know if it’s a Nigerian mentality but it’s entirely icky. I remember going through Nairaland and seeing a post by someone here saying that she doesn’t understand why so many Nigerians will apply to one school. Just imagine that thought. I agree that there may be “lazy” people that will reach out to you for assistance on application or whatnot but you can choose to help or tell them to do their research. Isn’t this platform made to assist one another? One person’s light doesn’t stop your own light from shining.
Pefuele:
Someone from here called me few days back to give him Schools to apply. I told him you have to put in the time to do that yourself and learn. If I have to do it for you it doesn't come free. The truth is I put in lots of time to research about Universities not just in the US but also Aussie, Canada, UK and Germany. I started reading this Student VISA thread from 2015. I read compilations of all the transcripts. It wasn't easy putting in lots of time but it is worth it. Today, I can view someone profile & tell what are the probable school he/she can apply.

Oh my!
Don’t lose hope. Whatever you decide to go for, certainly try again.
You’ll definitely get it.l
Spectro:
Congratulations! It has ended in praise.

Please rejoice ooo, because it is not easy.

The long wait has been rewarded.

I got a refusal though, for home ties both in Canada and Nigeria. Apparently, my ties in Canada are way more than those in Nigeria. I will order GCMS note. I may reapply or opt for the US. But US is priority right now.

I wish you all a delightful outcome in your applications. We learn every day, and some experiences are worthwhile, even though they are a bit sad. But we move!

I applied on March 11 by the way.

March folks will be getting decisions. Stay blessed.

EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Steph1738aye: 11:52am On Jun 05, 2021
Oh alrighty. What's the cost of registration? While making enquiries, I got different figures from different agencies and lesson centers. Yeah there are lessons. You get the choose the duration you want tho
Nozino:
Ok but non of the universities I’m interested in opens application portal in September. I intend paying next week and hopefully writing September. Walspring is helping me.

Are there GRE lessons? I’m yet to start preparations but I believe I can meet up.
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Steph1738aye: 11:35am On Jun 05, 2021
Oh no, not for admittance. The application portal for the uni I'm interested in opens up on the first of September to accept applications for Fall 2022 and I plan to apply in September even though the deadline is 1st of February 2022.
In regards to funding, I personally think it's better to have all required documents prepared early. Even though early decision may start in December or January, you will need a lot of time for preparation so it's better to take the required exams much earlier.
Are you making payment for the registration or to start lessons? I haven't written it before but I've gone through this thread and I have seen some sample questions so all that's left for me to do is honestly prepare well.
Nozino:
Me too. I plan on making payment for both GRE and Toefl next week. Have you written the exam before? I don’t know what to expect.

About Funding, that’s not exactly true. Early Decision is usually 1st December or 1st January. For Fall 2022, hardly will any school starts admitting in September.

Edit: I just went through your posts, you intend applying to schools in Canada, I have an HND so I’m restricted to a few countries.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Steph1738aye: 11:27am On Jun 05, 2021
As far as I know, the cheapest Canadian uni is Memorial University. Also, most universities in Canada waive IELTS for Nigerian students.

God's grace, next year I'll be applying for my study permit. I have learnt a lot reading from everyone here. I originally planned to use an agent for my study permit application but the cost and their possible lack of care is a concern. I feel a bit tensed looking at samples of the application and going through people's timelines because I really want to get it right but I know when the time comes to apply for my permit next year, this is a safe place for me to ask questions and seek advice.
Good luck to all the hopeful PPRs for this month and through the year. You will all hear good news on your applications
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Steph1738aye: 10:19am On Jun 05, 2021
When was the deadline? If you applied months before the deadline, you should have gotten a response already but if you applied around the deadline, it takes 2-3 months to get a response from them concerning your admission. You can ty emailing the school concerning this. Is is for Fall 2021?
Ayindesegun10:
Has Memorial University started giving out admissions ? I've applied since almost two months now and no answer yet.
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Steph1738aye: 11:16pm On Jun 04, 2021
I think the sooner the better. I'm writing mine in August/September (which is a bit late but no p) I was told that scholarship/funding applications close pretty early so it's best to write the exam soon and apply to schools early if you're looking for funding. I'll be applying to schools towards the end of September. I'm currently preparing for the GRE and also preparing all the documents I will need for application.
Nozino:
I need this answer too.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Steph1738aye: 2:10pm On Jun 03, 2021
Hi Winta. The way I got my own personal copy of my transcript was through my school’s portal (I just downloaded it)
Now, after you’ve been given admission, the international university would required a copy of your transcript to be sent to them directly from your uni. This can be done either through email or courier (by your school) depending on whatever method the international university requires.

winta2007:
You mean after I gave them the email address. I have to print it out myself?

What if I now gained admission and they want me to send the real copy?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Steph1738aye: 1:00pm On Jun 02, 2021
So sorry for this. You can regroup and definitely try again.
mullingtee:
So I eventually got my refusal letter today, a bit relieved because of the long wait, now I am ready to tackle the issues head on. The major problem I have though is the financial aspect. My sponsor sent an approximation of CAD 10,000 to my personal account just yesterday, I am also able to access more funds, however I am of the opinion that this may seem suspicious to the VO, if more lump sum amount is suddenly being deposited to my personal account, I really need the advise of all the experts on this.

English letter for visa or admission?
It’s for admission. The application portal opens in September and I want to apply in September (although the deadline for my post graduate program is 1st of February 2022)
Is it too early to get the English proficiency letter from my university or do I wait till August?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Steph1738aye: 10:03am On Jun 02, 2021
Guys please I need a response. Is it fine to get the English proficiency letter from my school this month even though I intend to apply in September?

Hi guys. The application portal for my program will open on the 1st of September and I intend to apply in September (although the deadline for the program is 1st of February 2022)
Now the thing is that, instead of writing the IELTS, I can get a letter from my school stating that the mode of instruction was in English. When do you think is the best time to get this letter? My original plan was to get it sometime in August but now I’m considering emailing my school so I could get it this month. (I’m just confused sad)
Currently I’m preparing to write the GRE in August.

Okay... yes. Also for your acceptance letter. Did it come after the deadline? There are some schools that wait till after the deadline to send our acceptance letters.

Hi guys.
My name is Stephanie and I’m looking to apply for Memorial University’s MBA program this year for the fall intake next year.
I’m still in the process of reading the entire thread but I’d like to know if anyone knows the timeline for the GRE exam for this year.
I hope to start my lessons soon but money is being held up in a few places. Is there any exam date for August and September in Lagos?
